A wedding supra in Adjara is a long table of shared Georgian dishes, wine and chacha, led by a tamada who calls the toasts. At Glamping Tago in the mountains above Khulo, the feast costs 85 GEL per guest for the Mountain Supra, 125 GEL for the Euro-Georgian buffet and 215 GEL for the five-course Signature menu. A barbecue live station adds 45 GEL per guest. This guide covers the dishes, the drinks, the toasts and the real 2026 prices, with a worked budget for 30 guests.

Which venue fits your wedding feast?

Choose the venue by how you want the evening to go: one long feast with everyone sleeping on site, or a banquet hall dinner after which everyone goes home. Here are the places in this guide, with the facts that decide it.

Glamping Tago (our venue), Khulo, Adjara

Where: on the ridge above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, at about 1,200 m. Drive: about 2 hours from Batumi. Capacity: made for weddings of about 30 guests, with 33 beds on site. Feast: from 85 GEL per guest (2026). Season: April to the end of October.

The whole camp belongs to one wedding, so the supra is not a dinner slot in a hall: guests eat in the event tent, sleep a few steps away and have breakfast together the next morning. The kitchen is vegetarian and cooks from local produce, and meat comes from the barbecue station or the khinkali add-on (more on that below).

What is on an Adjarian wedding supra menu?

A wedding supra puts every dish on the table at once: salads, cold starters with walnuts, cheeses, breads, hot dishes and grilled meat, with wine poured all evening. A family supra can carry 20 to 30 dishes and last 4 to 10 hours, while a restaurant supra runs 2 to 3 hours, according to the Georgia Spirit supra guide. The word supra itself means "tablecloth". Plan your evening for the long version: at a wedding the toasts, songs and dancing fill the whole night.

A wooden table covered with Georgian dishes, khachapuri, stuffed peppers and red wine
A Georgian supra table at Glamping Tago

A festive supra with music and dancing is a keipi; the quiet memorial supra without music is a kelekhi (Winilia). A wedding is always a keipi, often with 20 or more toasts in one evening. The supra has been on Georgia's national list of intangible cultural heritage since 2017 (Tbilisi Foodie).

What makes it Adjarian is the mountain dairy and a few dishes found nowhere else in Georgia. The Georgian National Tourism Administration splits the region's cooking into mountain, Kobuleti, Memte and Laz kitchens, and in mountain Adjara about 95% of dishes are cooked with butter (georgia.travel).

Which Adjarian dishes belong on the wedding table?

Put at least two mountain dishes on the table next to the Georgian classics: Adjarian khachapuri and borano are the easy wins, and majuni is the traditional wedding dessert.

DishWhat it isVegetarian
Adjarian khachapuriBoat-shaped bread filled with cheese, butter and an egg yolkYes
BoranoButter boiled until dark specks appear, then shredded cheese stirred in, eaten with mchadi cornbreadYes
MalakhtoBrowned butter with crumbled cheese softened in hot water, eaten with hot mchadiYes
SinoriThin baked dough sheets with cottage cheese or nadugi, butter and garlicYes
AchmaLayers of boiled dough with cheese and melted butter, often compared to lasagneYes
Pkhali and pkhal-lobioVegetable and walnut pastes, beans, with mchadi and picklesVegan
MajuniBoiled rice with honey and black pepper, the wedding dessertYes
A boat-shaped Adjarian khachapuri with melted cheese and an egg yolk

Majuni carries the meaning: the first portion goes to the bride and groom, and the sweet and hot taste wishes them a family life full of sweet and hot events (georgia.travel). Today only Kobuleti families on the coast still make it; it was a key dish of the wedding feast and, by some accounts, of the souls' days after a funeral (Tunadze, 2025). Ask your caterer for it early: few kitchens know the recipe.

Sinori takes its name from the Adjarian and Laz word for "border" (georgia.travel), and Visit Batumi counts it with achma among the real gems of Adjarian cooking. Chirbuli, kaisapa, tsurvili and doshorva are other dishes found only in Adjara (georgia.travel).

Our organizer guide puts a full 30-guest wedding with dinner, breakfast and accommodation at 5,000 to 15,000 USD, depending on the season and the decor. A complete two-night September weekend with meals, decor, vendors, registrar and transfers is laid out hour by hour in our 30-guest wedding weekend, and the full budget lines are in what a wedding costs in Georgia.

Can the whole wedding supra be vegetarian or vegan?

Yes. A Georgian table is easy to make meat-free, because many supra classics are vegan by tradition. Pkhali, badrijani nigvzit (aubergine with walnut), ajapsandali, jonjoli pickles and mchadi cornbread are vegan as standard; for a vegan table ask for samarkhvo (fasting) food and check for butter on the mushrooms and ham in the lobio (The Georgian Guide).

Georgian pkhali, sliced vegetables and bread on a wooden table
Pkhali and vegetables: vegan by tradition

Our kitchen at Glamping Tago is vegetarian, so the Mountain Supra is vegetarian by default and fully vegan on request. The menu of Yurtalicious, our yurt restaurant, has 17 dishes, 8 of them vegan and 9 gluten-free. Typical supra dishes from it: a pkhali board, Adjaran pkhal-lobio with mchadi and pickles, borano and rice-stuffed peppers.

For the meat-lovers in the family, add the BBQ live station (45 GEL per guest) or meat khinkali on the supra (15 GEL per guest). The barbecue is cooked for the whole group, not for part of it. One couple chose 70% chicken and 30% beef for their 27-guest supra; another wedding, a 38-guest alcohol-free family wedding, took the Euro-Georgian buffet with a live barbecue and no pork.

How much wine and chacha do you need, and can you bring your own?

Yes, you can bring your own: corkage at Glamping Tago is 15 GEL per bottle, and 5-litre bottles are charged per litre. Our team can collect your drinks in Batumi and chill them, and the camp's own house wine by the litre, sparkling wine (45 GEL a bottle) and chacha come with a 10% wedding discount.

A decent qvevri wine rarely costs less than 15 to 20 GEL a bottle in a shop (Visit Tbilisi). Two Batumi wine shops sit a few minutes from the old bus station, where the road to Khulo starts. KTW Batumi Wine Shop publishes its prices online (Kindzmarauli 28 GEL, Tvishi 32 GEL), and the stop adds only 0.5 km to the drive up.

Danelia's Old House of Wine at 43 Zviad Gamsakhurdia Street, also a few hundred metres off the route, offers free tastings, wholesale, delivery, and chacha and wine in ceramic bottles. It is open every day from 10:00 to 20:00 (21:00 in summer), so an early start from Batumi still finds it open.

For an Adjarian wine on the table, Adjarian Wine House sits right on the road up, in Adjaristskali village (Khelvachauri), and is open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. It makes a Chkhaveri rose and a Tsolikouri under its Porto Franco brand, plus a qvevri Saperavi. Its Google rating is 4.1, so taste before you buy by the case.

Chacha, the grape spirit, must be at least 40% alcohol when sold in shops, and most bottles are 40 to 50%; a factory bottle costs about 20 to 60 GEL (Maspindzeli). Homemade chacha is unmeasured and can run up to 85% (Wikipedia).

Do you need a tamada, and how do the toasts work?

You need someone to lead the table. A Georgian tamada knows the order of the toasts and the songs and costs 800 to 1,200 GEL per event in western Georgia; couples with foreign guests can take a host (MC) instead, typically about 1,080 GEL for an entry package or 3,000 GEL for a 6-hour Russian-speaking host from our partner list.

The toasts follow an order that every Georgian at the table knows. A typical sequence, as Tbilisi Foodie lays it out:

  1. Peace, God and the reason for the feast (at a wedding: the couple).
  2. Georgia.
  3. Parents and ancestors.
  4. The departed, drunk standing and without clinking glasses.
  5. Children.
  6. Women.
  7. Friendship and the guests.
  8. The tamada, last.

The order varies by family and region. Guests answer each toast with "gaumarjos" (to victory), and the tamada can hand a toast to another guest with "alaverdi", who then builds on it. While the tamada speaks, nobody drinks, and one toast can last half an hour (Advantour). A merikipe sits next to the tamada and pours the wine for everyone, the tamada included (Advantour).

In western Georgia it is custom not to accept the tamada role at once, while in the east people agree without being persuaded (Vita Travel). A good tamada also keeps the guests from getting drunk. Meet yours 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding to agree the toasts, the languages and who gets an alaverdi.

For the live music around the toasts, see wedding music in Georgia, and for the rest of the customs, Georgian wedding traditions.

How do you plan the feast, step by step?

Book the date first, then the people who lead the evening, and fix the food last, one week before.

  1. 6 to 12 months ahead: book the venue. June to September dates go first. At Glamping Tago a 30% prepayment confirms the date; it is non-refundable. Site visits are welcome on weekends, or ask for a live video walk-through.
  2. Once the date is fixed: book the tamada or host and the musicians.
  3. 2 to 4 weeks ahead: meet the tamada and agree the toasts and the languages.
  4. 1 week ahead: send the menu choice, the drinks order, the cake size and the address where we collect your alcohol in Batumi.
  5. 7 days ahead: confirm the food headcount in writing. That number becomes the invoice.
  6. On the way up: buy wine and chacha in Batumi and take cash. Khulo, 6.5 km before the camp by road, has banks, a pharmacy and fuel; the Skhalta valley road skips Khulo, so minibus groups take cash in Batumi.

The balance is paid before arrival, in lari by bank transfer or a payment link (company invoices in GEL or EUR). The food, the drinks and the extras are settled at the end of the stay against an itemised invoice, in cash or by transfer, and transfers are paid in cash at our reception, never to the driver.

The wedding day at Glamping Tago usually runs like this: the ceremony at 16:00, canapes and sparkling wine at 17:00, dinner in the event tent at 19:00, cake and fireworks at 20:30, then music outside until midnight, after which the party moves into the yurt.

The lit sailcloth event tent on a grassy ridge at dusk, mountains and a village behind
The event tent at Glamping Tago after dark

If it rains, the tent walls close and the ceremony moves under the tent or into the yurt; on a cold night our team moves the wood stoves into the event tent. Starlink Wi-Fi (about 300 Mbps) covers vendors and live streams for relatives at home.

The camp lends its 10 wooden tables and benches, tablecloths, linen napkins, plates, cutlery, glasses and candle holders free of charge. For a 35-guest supra, nine tables were set three by three, with khinkali, house Manavi and Saperavi, homemade lemonade for the non-drinkers and the two nut dishes marked for a guest with a nut allergy (case study).

Where else can you hold a supra-style wedding in Georgia?

In Adjara, Eco House Merisi in the Keda valley is the other mountain option and ORTA is the banquet choice near Batumi. In Kakheti and around Tbilisi, the big resorts and farm venues host larger weddings.

Eco House Merisi, Keda (Adjara)

Where: Silibauri, Keda municipality, 54 km from Batumi. It is not on the road to Tago: the Keda side valley adds 23 km, so it is a separate trip. Capacity: glass restaurant hall up to 50 guests plus two open terraces, and a covered venue of about 100 m2 for rain. Price: every wedding priced individually; Adjarian khachapuri on the restaurant menu costs 25 GEL. Season: ceremonies in any season.

The formats run from an intimate wedding to a weekend with a pre-wedding dinner, or a full hotel buyout.

ORTA Batumi, Agara (Adjara)

Where: Agara, 8.4 km by road from the old Batumi bus station. Price: wedding menu from 80 GEL per guest, with a toastmaster, an ensemble and a photographer arranged. Capacity: main hall up to 1,000 guests, riverside terrace up to 120, bamboo grove up to 200; cottages of its mini-hotel for some overnight guests. Format: a restaurant between two rivers, known for its river trout, with live music.

Kvareli Lake Resort, Kakheti

Where: on Kvareli Lake, Kakheti, about 2.5 hours from Tbilisi. Price: a published agency budget for 20 guests in May 2023 came to 13,770 USD with a Georgian banquet menu and a 10% organisation fee, alcohol not included.

Kiketi Farm, near Tbilisi

Where: Kiketi, in the hills above Tbilisi. Price: in 2026 the main grounds start at 4,500 USD, the restaurant zone at 5,500 USD and exclusive use of the whole location at 10,000 USD (Violet Weddings).

Tsinandali Estate, Kakheti

The historic Chavchavadze estate is a luxury hotel with wedding spaces and its own wine. It has no published menu prices, and several October 2026 Google reviews mention service failures and unanswered booking emails.

For a full comparison of the coast and the mountains, see a wedding in Adjara: coast or mountains.

How do you get your guests to a mountain feast?

From Batumi it is about 92 km and 2 hours to Glamping Tago by the Khulo road, or 94 km by the Skhalta valley. The easier road for minibuses turns off the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road at Zamleti, 4.7 km before Khulo, and climbs the Skhalta valley through Cheri and Dzmagula.

Common mistakes with a wedding supra in the mountains

  • Fixing the headcount late. The food number is locked in writing 7 days before and becomes the invoice, so count the children (under 6 free, 6-12 half price) before then.
  • Leaving the drinks for the mountains. Buy wine and chacha in Batumi on the way: three wine shops sit on the route out of town, and we chill your bottles on arrival.
  • No tamada brief. A tamada who does not know who the parents are, or which languages the guests speak, cannot do the job. Meet 2 to 4 weeks before.
  • Too much chacha too early. Homemade chacha is far stronger than shop chacha. Let the tamada set the pace.
  • Forgetting the non-drinkers. Homemade lemonade, compote and water come with our supra; for an alcohol-free wedding add soft drinks, tea and coffee.

A mountain wedding supra at Glamping Tago

We are Jonas and Lisa, a Belgian couple who fell in love with Georgia and opened Glamping Tago in 2021. We made it for weddings of about 30 guests: the whole camp belongs to your wedding, everyone sleeps on site, and the supra is laid in the sailcloth event tent on the ridge above Tago.

Our kitchen cooks the feast from local produce: a vegetarian Georgian supra, a Euro-Georgian buffet or a five-course Signature menu, with a barbecue station and meat khinkali for the meat-lovers. Meals the rest of the weekend are in Yurtalicious, our yurt restaurant, and we collect your wine in Batumi and chill it.
