Wedding in Adjara, Georgia: Batumi Coast or the Mountains? Month by Month, Venues and Prices (2026)

Published 6 September 2026

Back to the blog

Adjara gives you two weddings in one region: the Black Sea coast around Batumi and the mountains two hours inland. They have different weather, different venues and different prices. Here is how to choose, month by month, with real numbers.

One region, two climates

Adjara is the south-western corner of Georgia (the country), the strip between the Black Sea and the Turkish border. Batumi, its capital, has an international airport, palm-lined boulevards and a subtropical climate that makes it the wettest city in the Caucasus. Two hours inland the road climbs past Keda and Khulo into a different world: alpine meadows, wooden villages, the Goderdzi Pass at 2,025 m, cold nights and clear August skies.

Couples who want a destination wedding in Georgia and fly into Batumi or Kutaisi end up choosing between these two, and the choice is mostly about weather and guest count. We run a venue on the mountain side, Glamping Tago in Village Tago above Khulo, so read our own entry knowing that. The coast numbers come from the venues' and agencies' own pages.

Weather month by month

Batumi figures are the long-term averages for the city. Khulo (1,044 m, the town below our village) stands for the mountain side; our ridge is higher and a degree or two cooler.

October21 / 14 C277 mm, 12 days20 C15 / 5 Cgolden forests; mountain venues close at month end

Two things stand out. First, the coast is wet all year: rainfall stays above 150 mm a month from July to March and peaks in autumn, so a September or October wedding in Batumi needs a covered plan. Second, the mountains dry out in late summer: August is the clearest month up here, and September is stable while the coast is at its rainiest. Both sides have cold nights above 1,000 m, even in August, so a mountain wedding always needs a warm layer for the evening.

The coast: Batumi and the beach towns

  • Castello Mare (Tsikhisdziri, 20 minutes north of Batumi). A cliff-top hotel with sea views and the largest capacity on the coast, around 250 guests. The default choice of the Batumi agencies for a big formal dinner.
  • Dreamland Oasis (Chakvi). A resort on the beach with hotel rooms for a whole party and a pool-side reception.
  • Batumi hotels (Sheraton, Hilton, Radisson and the boulevard towers). Ballrooms for 100-300, rooms for everyone, and a city-registry office five minutes away. The Batumi wedding house offers a ceremonial registration from 150 GEL.
  • Botanical garden and Mtirala park. Ceremony backdrops rather than venues; the reception happens back in town.

What the coast is good at: large numbers, hotel comfort, a sea view, and an airport 20 minutes from the altar. What it is bad at: rain in autumn, humidity in July and August, and a wedding that is one evening in a ballroom.

The mountains: Keda and Khulo

  • Glamping Tago (Village Tago, Khulo, about 2 hours from Batumi). This is us. A whole-camp buyout from Friday to Sunday: twelve Lotus Belle tents and a nine-bed dome sleep 33 on the ridge, seven family guesthouses in the village three to ten minutes below sleep 64 more (150 GEL per room per night), and the open wedding tent on the ridge seats 100. Ceremony in the forest clearing, on the valley overlook or under the sailcloth shala, which is also the rain plan. Full board 100 GEL per person per day from a fully vegetarian kitchen, feast packages 85-225 GEL per person, buyout 2,316-4,488 GEL per night depending on the month plus a 2,000 GEL privatisation fee. Jonas and Lisa, who run the venue, coordinate the day with you. Season 1 April to the end of October.
  • Eco House Merisi (Keda, about an hour from Batumi). Glass cottages in the forest, around 54 beds and seated dinners for about 60.
  • Chateau Milisi (Keda). A small hotel and winery in the Acharistskali gorge, weddings for up to 120 guests from about 2,900 USD.
  • Chateau Iveri (Keda). A boutique vineyard hotel for 15-20 guests.

What the mountains are good at: a weekend rather than an evening, everyone sleeping in one place, dry late-summer weather, and prices that include beds and meals. What they are bad at: 200-guest formal dinners, en-suite bathrooms for every guest, and a road that needs a 4x4 for the last stretch.

What each side costs

Coast, per the Batumi agencies: venue rental 350-5,000 USD, dinner 55-100 USD per person, hotel rooms on top, photographers from about 500 USD a day. A 60-guest hotel wedding with one night of rooms usually lands between 12,000 and 20,000 USD.

Mountains, our own 2026 numbers for 60 guests over two nights in September: camp buyout 7,168 GEL, privatisation fee 2,000 GEL, 14 village rooms 4,200 GEL, full board 12,000 GEL, feast upgrade 1,500 GEL, arch, flowers, decor, event tent and music kit 3,150 GEL, MC and DJ about 2,500 GEL, transfers from Batumi 7,950 GEL. About 40,500 GEL, roughly 15,000 USD, for a whole weekend with two nights and six meals for everyone, before photography and drinks. The full breakdown is in our glamping wedding weekend guide.

The best of both: a split weekend

Many of our couples do both. Guests land in Batumi, spend the first night on the coast, register at the Public Service Hall in the morning (our guide to getting married in Georgia as a foreigner has the documents), and our 4x4 cars bring everyone up the mountain for the wedding weekend. After the Sunday brunch the cars go back down and the guests who want the sea get two days of beach. Batumi to Tago is about 2 hours by car; a private 4x4 for four people is 265 GEL each way and we pool a wedding party into shared cars.

So, coast or mountains?

  • Choose the coast if you have more than 100 guests, want a hotel room with a bathroom for each of them, or are marrying in April or May when the hills are still wet and the sea front is at its most pleasant.
  • Choose the mountains if you want a two- or three-day wedding with everyone together, if you are marrying from June to October, or if your guest list is 20-100 and likes the outdoors.
  • Choose both if your guests are flying in from far away: the coast for arrival and recovery, the mountains for the wedding itself.

Whichever you pick, send your date and guest count to wedding.glampingtago.ge and Anastasia replies within a day with availability and an estimate. Our comparison of all the mountain regions of Georgia, from Kazbegi to Kakheti, is in Mountain wedding venues in Georgia, 2026.

Questions people ask

Is a wedding in Batumi or in the Adjara mountains better?

Batumi suits large hotel weddings of 100 or more with a sea view and an airport nearby. The Adjara mountains suit weekend weddings of 20-100 guests who all stay on site, with drier weather from June to October. Many couples combine both.

What is the best month for a wedding in Adjara, Georgia?

In the mountains, August is the clearest month and September is stable; on the coast May and June are the most pleasant, while September and October are the wettest months in Batumi with over 260 mm of rain.

How much rain does Batumi get in the wedding season?

About 108 mm in May, 142 mm in June, 168 mm in July, 205 mm in August, 262 mm in September and 277 mm in October, on 10-12 rainy days a month. A covered reception is essential from late August onwards.

How cold are the nights at a mountain wedding in Adjara?

Khulo at 1,044 m averages 13 C at night in July and August and 9-10 C in June and September; our ridge above the town is a little cooler. Guests need a warm layer for the evening even in high summer.

Which wedding venues are there on the Adjara coast?

Castello Mare in Tsikhisdziri (around 250 guests), Dreamland Oasis in Chakvi, and the Batumi hotels such as Sheraton, Hilton and Radisson with ballrooms for 100-300 guests. The Batumi wedding house offers ceremonial registration from 150 GEL.

Can we have the ceremony by the sea and the party in the mountains?

Yes. A common plan is a first night in Batumi, registration at the Public Service Hall in the morning, then the 4x4 transfer to the mountains for a Friday to Sunday wedding weekend, and back to the beach afterwards.
