A civil wedding in Georgia is legally valid in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany once the certificate has an apostille and a sworn translation, and guests fly in direct in 4 to 5 hours without a visa. Here are the flights, the paperwork per country, real 2026 costs against home and the guest weekend.

A wedding in Georgia is legal at home: Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany all accept a Georgian civil marriage once the certificate carries an apostille and a sworn translation. Your guests fly in without a visa, many on a direct flight of four to five hours, and a weekend for 30 people in the mountains of Adjara costs a fraction of an average wedding at home. This guide walks through the flights, the paperwork for each country, the real 2026 costs and what the weekend is like for your guests.

Which venue fits a wedding of about 30 guests from Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany?

For a small destination wedding, the deciding questions are whether the whole venue is yours, whether every guest sleeps on site and how far it is from the airports with direct flights from home. Here is how the venues European couples ask about compare.

The short version: if your guest list is about 30 and you want a weekend that belongs only to you, a whole-venue buyout in Adjara is the fit. If you are inviting 100 or more and want a hotel with a ballroom, look at Kakheti.

Glamping Tago (our venue), Adjara mountains

Glamping Tago sits on a ridge above Village Tago in Khulo municipality, mountainous Adjara, at about 1,200 m. A wedding books the whole camp: twelve Lotus Belle tents and a nine-bed dome sleep 33 people, so the couple, the families and the friends all wake up in the same place. The camp is closed to other guests for your stay, and you book at least two nights: one to set up and welcome everyone, one for the wedding itself.

A couple seen from behind under a floral wedding arch, facing the mountains of Adjara
The ceremony meadow at Glamping Tago, 1,200 m above Village Tago

The ceremony is on the meadow facing the mountains, under an arch our team builds by hand. Dinner and dancing move into a 15.2 x 9.7 m sailcloth event tent on a wooden deck, about 150 m2, whose walls close if it rains. Meals come from Yurtalicious, the yurt restaurant on site, and the evening sauna, the campfire and morning yoga are included for everyone staying. We have hosted weddings of 17 to 38 guests, and guests in our Google reviews talk about the view first, then the staff and the food.

Eco House Merisi, Adjara mountains

Eco House Merisi sits in Silibauri above Merisi village in Keda, up a side valley off the Batumi-Khulo road, 49 km from Batumi airport. Its wedding page offers intimate ceremonies of 20 to 50 guests on a platform at the cliff edge, a restaurant hall for up to 50 with two open terraces, and cottages and villas that sleep up to 54. A full-resort buyout is possible, and every wedding is priced individually.

Tsinandali Estate, Kakheti

Tsinandali Estate is the Chavchavadze family estate in Kakheti, now run as a Radisson Collection hotel, about 92 km and 1 h 45 from Tbilisi airport by the estate's own figures. Weddings use the amphitheatre, the Theatre ballroom and an 18-hectare English garden. It suits a large, formal wedding; for 30 guests from Brussels, the drive from Kutaisi adds a long day.

Kvareli Lake Resort, Kakheti

Kvareli Lake Resort is a 100-room hotel on a lake under the Caucasus, open since 2010, about 2 h 30 from Tbilisi by its own FAQ. Events use its halls of 120 and 224 m2 and the lakeside grounds.

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, Kakheti

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa near Napareuli is the big option: 310 rooms in 16 buildings, the IKE restaurant for up to 250, Chateau Buera for up to 220 and the Oval for up to 80. It is about 105 km and 2 hours by road from Tbilisi airport.

Kiketi Farm, near Tbilisi

Kiketi Farm is about 30 minutes from Tbilisi, with Oda houses, cottages and treehouses. Its event spaces are two greenhouses (30-100 and 50-150 guests), a meadow for ceremonies of 150 to 200 and a bridge for small weddings of 40 to 60.

Why do Belgian, Dutch and German couples marry in Georgia?

Three reasons come up again and again: the marriage is legal at home, the flights are short and cheap, and the money goes much further than at home. Georgia registers a foreign couple's marriage in a few hours with no residency and no waiting period, and a whole-venue weekend for 30 guests costs a fraction of an average wedding at home.

The fourth reason is harder to put in a table. A Georgian wedding is built around the supra, the long feast with a toastmaster, and your guests get a trip they would never have planned on their own. We are Jonas and Lisa, a Belgian couple ourselves: we fell in love with these mountains, chose Georgia and opened Glamping Tago in 2021.

Is a marriage in Georgia legally valid in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany?

Yes. All three countries recognise a civil marriage registered in Georgia, provided you met their own conditions for marriage. Georgia and all three are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so you need an apostille on the Georgian certificate and a sworn translation, and then you register it at home. A church wedding on its own has no legal force in Georgia; only the civil registration counts.

Belgium

The Flemish government recognises a foreign marriage when the Belgian marriage conditions are met and the marriage followed the local form. The certificate needs an apostille and a sworn translation into the language of your municipality: Dutch, French or German. If the translator is abroad, their signature must be authenticated too; Belgian sworn translators are listed at the registry of the court of first instance.

Your municipality first registers the foreign certificate in the DABS (in French BAEC) database, by appointment in a city like Gent. Transcription into the Belgian registers is not mandatory, but without it every later extract has to be requested from Georgia, so do it. It is free in Kampenhout and Wuustwezel, while Florenville charges 50 EUR. As Decker Law puts it, the apostille only authenticates the signature; the Belgian certificate your municipality draws up is the real sign of recognition.

Netherlands

If you live in the Netherlands, you must register the marriage at your own municipality as soon as possible after you return, and the registration is free. You bring the original certificate and both IDs, and the marriage goes into the BRP. Dutch nationals living abroad may convert it through The Hague, but do not have to.

The Georgian certificate needs a (digital) apostille from the Georgian authorities and a sworn translation into Dutch, English, French or German, done either in Georgia or in the Netherlands after the original is apostilled, as NetherlandsWorldwide explains. Once legalised, a marriage certificate does not expire for Dutch use. The Dutch embassy in Tbilisi does not issue a certificate of legal capacity to marry; your municipality issues a verklaring van huwelijksbevoegdheid if one is asked for, and the Georgian document list does not include it.

Germany

There is no obligation to register a foreign marriage in Germany and no deadline: the Georgian certificate is accepted as proof. A Nachbeurkundung is still worth doing, because afterwards a German Standesamt can issue German marriage certificates. Berlin-Neukolln charges 80 EUR (plus 45 EUR per spouse under foreign law), 12 EUR for the certificate and 6 EUR per extra copy; Frankfurt (Oder) charges 85 EUR. Fees differ by Standesamt.

The German embassy in Tbilisi confirms the apostille applies between the two countries, issued by the Georgian registry. Many Standesamter insist on a translation by a translator sworn in Germany, so order the German translation at home. You cannot marry at a German embassy or consulate, as the Federal Foreign Office states.

What do you need to marry in Georgia, and can the registrar come to your venue?

You apply together at a Public Service Hall (the House of Justice) with your passports, two adult witnesses and, if either of you was married before, proof that the marriage ended. Registration at the hall without a ceremony is free, and a registrar can come to the venue you choose for a 255 GEL state fee. There is no residency rule and no waiting period.

The rules come from the Public Service Development Agency: both partners must be 18 or older, registration through a representative is not allowed, and a foreigner shows legal stay in Georgia, which for EU citizens is the entry stamp. The agency may accept a foreign passport without a Georgian translation if it carries the personal data in Latin letters; other foreign documents need an apostille and a notarised Georgian translation. For a registration at a venue, bring a notarised Georgian translation of both passports, and check that every name matches the passport letter for letter. A spelling error surfaces later, when the certificate is translated back, and is slow to correct.

The state fees, in force since August 2022 and reported by Batumelebi:

Where you marryState fee
Public Service Hall, no ceremonyFree
Public Service Hall, with a ceremony75 GEL
Wedding House135 GEL on weekdays, 225 GEL at weekends
A registrar at the venue you choose255 GEL

Without a ceremony, the decision usually comes within hours and the certificate is issued the same day, and an application stays valid for two months, so you can choose the wedding date within that window. The Public Service Halls work Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00.

At Glamping Tago the Khulo civil registry sends the registrar up the mountain: you file the application in advance at a House of Justice, and the registration happens on our meadow with your guests watching. Apply on a weekday before the weekend, because the Batumi hall is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

The apostille comes from the same agency: 30 GEL in 8 working days, 60 GEL in 4, 120 GEL in 2 and 150 GEL the same day. Ordered from abroad by video call or as an e-apostille, it costs 55 GEL within 3 working days, which helps if you fly home the day after the wedding. Agencies handle the whole Tbilisi registration for a fee: Bineli charges 780 EUR standard and 970 EUR express, Kate&Co starts at 450 USD, and georgian-wedding.com at 350 EUR. Our step-by-step guide for foreigners covers the hall visit in detail.

How do you and your guests fly to Georgia from Brussels, Amsterdam or Germany?

Belgian guests fly direct from Brussels Charleroi to Kutaisi, Dutch guests direct from Amsterdam to Tbilisi, and German guests have direct flights from at least six airports. Nobody flies direct to Batumi, the airport nearest to Adjara's mountains: those flights connect through Istanbul.

The Kutaisi routes are on whatflieswhere: the Charleroi flight is scheduled until 4 February 2027 and Berlin until 4 March 2027, and Hamburg ends on 24 October 2026. The summer-only Frankfurt and Cologne flights to Tbilisi are Condor and Eurowings routes launched for summer 2026. There is no direct flight from Eindhoven or any Dutch airport to Kutaisi, so Dutch guests choose Amsterdam to Tbilisi, or Charleroi or Dortmund to Kutaisi. The Transavia flight leaves Schiphol at 14:10 and lands in Tbilisi at 20:50, which means a night in Tbilisi before the trip west. Fares move daily; Charleroi to Kutaisi starts from about 111 GEL one way without a bag on November dates, and Wizz Air's Dortmund to Kutaisi from about 56 EUR.

How far is the venue from the airport?

From Kutaisi airport to Glamping Tago is 214 km by road through Batumi, about 5 h 30 in our private 4x4 transfer. From Batumi airport it is 87 km by road, asphalt as far as Khulo and a 4x4 road for the last stretch up to the camp, about 2 to 2.5 hours door to door.

The cheapest way from Kutaisi airport is the Georgian Bus, which meets flights at the arrivals exit and runs to Batumi in 2 hours for 25 GEL, four times a day; the train takes 2 hours for 31 GEL. From Batumi, a marshrutka leaves the bus station for Khulo every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 20:00 for about 10 GEL. For a wedding group, transfers matched to each flight are simpler, and our getting here page and the guest transport guide have every option.

Guests landing in Kutaisi who want to make the 15:00 check-in leave the airport by about 09:30, since the private transfer takes about 5 h 30.

Do your guests need a visa or travel insurance for Georgia in 2026?

No visa: citizens of every EU country enter Georgia with a passport or an EU identity card and may stay up to a year, as the official tourism site says. Insurance, yes: since 1 January 2026 every tourist needs health and accident cover of at least 30,000 GEL (about 10,000 EUR) for every day of the stay.

The rule comes from government decree No. 602 of 26 December 2025, explained by the German Foreign Office. Every tourist needs a policy, and one from a home insurer is fine if it covers at least 30,000 GEL for the whole stay and is issued in English or Georgian, as Georgian Airways sets out. The airline may ask for it at check-in and the border police on arrival, so each guest keeps a printed or digital copy with their passport. It is an entry rule for every tourist, not a marriage document.

The Dutch travel advice adds that the travel document must stay valid for the whole stay and that a Dutch driving licence is valid in Georgia.

What does a wedding in Georgia cost compared with Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany?

An average wedding at home costs about 16,000 to 27,000 EUR in Belgium, about 24,000 to 25,000 EUR in the Netherlands and about 17,000 EUR in Germany, for 80 to 100 guests and one evening. A two-night wedding weekend for 30 guests at Glamping Tago, with every bed, meal, transfer and the registrar included, comes to roughly 22,000 GEL, about 7,400 EUR at roughly 3 GEL to the euro.

Per guest, it is in the same range as a German wedding (about 250 EUR against about 210 EUR): the saving comes from the smaller guest list, not from cheap catering. What changes is what each guest gets for it: two nights, four meals and a ceremony in the mountains rather than one evening in a hall. Your guests pay their own flights.

What is the wedding weekend like for your guests?

Your guests arrive the day before, check in at 15:00, eat together and sit around the fire. The wedding day runs from a late-afternoon ceremony on the meadow to a long dinner, dancing and a bonfire, and the morning after everyone is still there for breakfast. That shared weekend is what a mountain wedding gives you that a hall does not.

A typical wedding day at Tago, from our organizer page: getting ready in the heated dome from midday, 16:00 the ceremony, 17:00 canapes and sparkling wine by the yurt while you shoot photos in the golden hour, 19:00 dinner in the event tent, 20:30 cake, first dance and fireworks, then the party. Music outside runs until midnight, then the party moves into the yurt so the tents can sleep. Older guests often take the evening sauna while the dancing goes on. The village mosque calls to prayer mostly on Fridays, so we help you time a Friday ceremony around it.

The heart of a Georgian wedding is the supra, the feast led by a tamada who proposes every toast; guests drink when a toast ends, not in between. A wedding supra traditionally lasts six to seven hours with breaks for dancing, and The Georgian Guide explains the toasts. For a Belgian, Dutch or German crowd, a host who explains the toasts in English keeps everyone in the rhythm. Our wedding traditions guide covers the rest.

Our kitchen is vegetarian and covers vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and nut-free guests, and a BBQ station with marinated chicken and pork (45 GEL a guest) or meat khinkali (15 GEL) adds meat for those who want it. We have hosted weddings whose guests spoke Russian, English, German and Georgian, and for one 35-guest wedding we sent three transfers from Batumi city, the airport and the railway station, a jeep for a late flight and a 6 am car for an early flight home.

Family at home can watch: the camp has Starlink Wi-Fi at about 300 Mbps, enough for your vendors and a live stream of the ceremony.

When is the best time for a destination wedding in Georgia?

At Glamping Tago, June and the first half of September are the sweet spots: June days usually reach about 24°C with nights of 11 to 13°C, and September days 22 to 25°C with nights of 10 to 13°C. The wedding season runs from May to mid-October, and the camp is open from 1 April to the end of October.

May days usually reach about 19°C and October days about 18°C, with October nights down to 5 to 8°C, so autumn guests need a warm layer for the bonfire. It rains on 11 to 16 days a month in the mountain season, which is why every wedding here has the tent as plan B and guests should pack a rain jacket even in July. Our month-by-month guide compares every region.

Flights matter too: the published Charleroi and Amsterdam schedules run to February and March 2027, so check the summer timetable before you fix a June date.

Step by step: what to book, in what order and how far ahead

  1. 12 months ahead: choose the venue and the date. Site visits are welcome at weekends, or we walk you through the camp on a live video call from Brussels, Amsterdam or Berlin. June to September dates at Glamping Tago book 6 to 12 months ahead, and a 30% prepayment confirms the date; book at least three months ahead in any month. You pay in lari by bank transfer or a payment link, a company can get the invoice in GEL or EUR, and what you use on the day is settled on site against an itemised invoice.
  2. 9 to 12 months ahead: send a save-the-date with the airports. Belgian guests watch Charleroi to Kutaisi, Dutch guests Amsterdam to Tbilisi, German guests their nearest Wizz Air or Lufthansa route.
  3. 6 months ahead: book the photographer, host and make-up artist, and agree their travel to the venue.
  4. 3 months ahead: check your documents. Passports valid for the whole trip, a divorce decree with apostille if either of you was married before, and the exact spelling of every name.
  5. 30 days ahead: send us the timeline and your mood board for the decor.
  6. 7 days ahead: confirm the final guest count for the meals and who sleeps where.
  7. The week of the wedding: file the application at a House of Justice on a weekday with your passports, bring your two witnesses to the registration, and order the apostille.
  8. After you get home: register the marriage. In the Netherlands that is mandatory; in Belgium and Germany it saves you trouble later.

What mistakes do European couples make with a wedding in Georgia?

Most problems come from paperwork timing and from treating Georgia like a single destination. These are the ones we see most.

Glamping Tago is not the right venue for every wedding. If you want a ballroom for 150, hotel rooms with en-suite bathrooms for every guest or a winter date, a Kakheti resort fits better. If you want 30 people, a mountain and a whole weekend to yourselves, start with our wedding page.

A mountain wedding weekend for about 30 guests at Glamping Tago

A wedding at Glamping Tago books the whole camp for at least two nights: one to welcome everyone, one for the wedding. Your guests sleep in 12 Lotus Belle tents and a dorm dome on the ridge, the ceremony is on the meadow facing the mountains and dinner is in the event tent.

We arrange the registrar, the transfers timed to each flight, the food from Yurtalicious, our yurt restaurant, and the vendors from Batumi if you want us to. The sauna, the campfire and morning yoga are included every evening and morning.

Questions people ask

Is a marriage in Georgia legally valid in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany?

Yes. All three recognise a civil marriage registered in Georgia once the certificate has an apostille and a sworn translation. Dutch residents must register it at their municipality after returning, free of charge; in Belgium and Germany registration is optional but makes later certificates easier. A church wedding alone has no legal force.

Do we need to live in Georgia or wait before we can marry?

No. Foreign couples need no residency and there is no waiting period. You apply together at a Public Service Hall with passports, two adult witnesses and proof of divorce if it applies; without a ceremony the certificate is usually issued the same day, and an application stays valid for two months.

Can the registrar come to our wedding venue?

Yes. A registrar at the venue you choose costs a 255 GEL state fee. At Glamping Tago the Khulo civil registry sends the registrar up to the camp after you file the application at a House of Justice on a weekday.

How do we fly from Brussels or Amsterdam to a wedding in Georgia?

From Brussels, Wizz Air flies Charleroi to Kutaisi direct on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in about 4.5 hours. From Amsterdam, Georgian Airways and Transavia fly direct to Tbilisi five times a week. Kutaisi is 214 km from Glamping Tago by road via Batumi, about 5.5 hours by our 4x4 transfer.

Do our guests need a visa or travel insurance for Georgia?

EU citizens need no visa and can enter with a passport or an EU ID card for up to a year. Since 1 January 2026 every tourist must hold health and accident insurance of at least 30,000 GEL (about 10,000 EUR) for the whole stay, which the airline may check at check-in.

How much does a wedding in Georgia cost compared with home?

An average wedding costs about 16,000 to 27,000 EUR in Belgium, about 24,000 to 25,000 EUR in the Netherlands and about 17,000 EUR in Germany. A two-night weekend for 30 guests at Glamping Tago in September, with beds, four meals, decor, a photographer, transfers and the registrar, comes to about 22,100 GEL, roughly 7,400 EUR.

Can same-sex couples marry in Georgia?

No. Georgia registers only marriages between a man and a woman, so same-sex couples from Belgium, the Netherlands or Germany cannot marry legally there. The Dutch travel advice also warns that LGBTIQ+ travellers may face discrimination.

Can we invite more than 30 guests to Glamping Tago?

Glamping Tago is made for weddings of about 30, with 33 beds on the ridge. For a bigger wedding, up to about 100 guests, the extra guests stay in family guesthouses in Tago village, 3 to 10 minutes on foot, with 64 more beds in 27 rooms.
