A group of 30 wedding guests reaches a mountain venue in Adjara in two 15-seat minibuses from Batumi airport, in about 2 hours, in one or two waves timed to the flights. For Glamping Tago that costs 410 GEL per minibus one way, so about 27 GEL per guest when the minibus is full. The rest of this guide is the detail: which airport, which vehicles get up the last stretch, what it costs, where guests sleep the night before and what goes wrong.

Which venue fits you?

The venue decides the transport. A venue on a mountain ridge means minibuses and 4x4 cars and one planned arrival; a city hotel means taxis and no plan at all. Here is how Glamping Tago compares with three other places couples look at.

Glamping Tago (our venue), Adjara

  • Where: Village Tago above Khulo, mountainous Adjara, at 1,200 m
  • From the airport: Batumi airport about 87 km, about 2 hours; Kutaisi airport 218 km via Batumi, about 5h30
  • Capacity: weddings of about 30 guests; the whole camp is yours and everyone sleeps on site
  • Transfers: our 15-seat minibuses and 4x4 cars, from Batumi, the airport or the train station
  • Season: April to the end of October

Glamping Tago is built for this kind of wedding: 30 people arrive, stay two or three nights and leave together. Because everyone sleeps on the ridge, you plan two transfers (in and out), not a shuttle loop every night.

How do you get 30 guests from Batumi airport to a mountain venue?

Book two 15-seat minibuses that go all the way to the venue, and send them when the flights land. For 30 guests that is 820 GEL one way at our rates, and nobody changes vehicle on the way.

The drive follows the asphalt Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road for 80-85 km to Khulo, at 867 m. The last 8.6 km, down to the river, over the iron bridge and up the zigzag road to Tago at 1,200 m, is a mountain road for 4x4 cars and minibuses. Big buses cannot reach the camp. Our minibuses either drive up from Khulo or take the Skhalta valley road: they turn off at Zamleti, 4.7 km before Khulo, and the whole drive from Batumi is 94 km and about 2 hours, a little longer than through Khulo.

There are three other ways, each for a different group:

  • 4x4 cars (4 seats): 265 GEL per car from Batumi. Best for 2-4 guests on an odd flight, or for the couple arriving early.
  • Your own coach to Khulo, our minibuses from there: the popular plan when the group already travels together by coach, for example from Tbilisi. Our 15-seat minibus from Khulo to Tago is 135 GEL. For 30 guests landing in Batumi it is not cheaper than two minibuses all the way.
  • Marshrutka plus 4x4 taxi: the public minibus from the old Batumi bus station to Khulo (every 30 minutes, 08:00-20:00, about 10 GEL) and a 4x4 taxi up for 75 GEL per car. Cheap, slow, fine for a backpacker friend, wrong for grandparents with suitcases.

Batumi or Kutaisi: which airport should guests fly into?

Batumi, if the flights work. It is about 87 km from the venue, the minibus is waiting at the terminal, and guests are in the mountains 2 hours after landing. Kutaisi has the cheap flights but adds 131.5 km and a change of vehicle or a long transfer.

Batumi International Airport (BUS)

Batumi airport's route map lists direct flights from Riga (airBaltic), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines and Pegasus), Dubai (Flydubai), Tel Aviv (El Al, Arkia and Israir), Minsk (Belavia), Almaty and Astana (Air Astana), Tashkent (Uzbekistan Airways), Yerevan, Baku, Riyadh and Jeddah (Flynas), several Russian cities (Red Wings) and Tbilisi (Georgian Wings). Taxis wait at the terminal exit, and the city centre is 10-15 minutes away.

For guests who spend the night in Batumi first, a ride-hailing app taxi to the centre usually costs 10-15 GEL; the drivers in the arrivals hall ask more. City bus 10 leaves from in front of the terminal and takes a bank card or a Batumi card, never cash. The airport has no left-luggage office (TravelAroundGeorgia), so a guest who lands early carries the suitcase until the minibus leaves.

Kutaisi International Airport (KUT)

Wizz Air flies to Kutaisi from cities such as Vilnius, Warsaw, Memmingen and Katowice, and that is why half the guest list will look at it. From Kutaisi a guest has three ways to Batumi:

  • Coach: Georgian Bus and other operators wait outside arrivals and leave 30-60 minutes after each flight lands, and wait if it is late (The Georgian Guide). The ride to Batumi takes 2-3 hours with a rest stop and costs 25-30 GEL. The Georgian National Tourism Administration warns the tickets almost always sell out, so guests should book their seat online when they book the flight.
  • Train: the airport has its own station, 1.8 km from the terminal with a free shuttle (Kutaisi airport). Four trains a day leave it for Batumi, at 07:21, 10:40, 17:51 and 19:45 (station timetable), and arrive 2h30 to 3h20 later (Georgian Railway). Tickets start at about 30 GEL.
  • Private driver: from about 199 GEL per car to Batumi, about 2 hours (The Georgian Guide). TIEG Travel, based in Kutaisi, runs these transfers too.

Or skip Batumi: our own 4x4 from Kutaisi to Tago is 465 GEL per car and a 15-seat minibus 795 GEL, about 5h30 on the road. When 10-15 guests land on the same Kutaisi flight, the direct minibus (53 GEL a guest when full) is the simple choice. A single guest pays less on the coach and joins a Batumi wave.

Flying into Tbilisi

Tbilisi has the most flights, but it is the far side of the country: our 4x4 from Tbilisi to Tago costs 925 GEL per car and takes about 8h30, and a 15-seat minibus costs 1,115 GEL. We collect a Tbilisi group at any address in the city. Guests who fly into Tbilisi should take a domestic flight on to Batumi, or arrive a day early and join the Batumi transfer.

What vehicles work on the mountain road: coach, Sprinter, minibus or 4x4?

Minibuses of 15-17 seats and 4x4 cars go all the way to the camp. Big coaches go as far as Khulo and no further, because the last stretch is a narrow mountain road.

A gravel road with a wooden sign reading 4X4 ONLY leading into a forest
The last stretch up to the camp is for 4x4 cars and minibuses.
  • 50-seat coach: fine on the asphalt from Batumi to Khulo. Book one only if you have 40+ guests and plan the change to minibuses in Khulo. Coach companies set their own route rules: BestBus Georgia keeps its buses on asphalt and bans them from the Akhaltsikhe-Khulo road over the Goderdzi pass, where 3 of 47 km are still unpaved (Zvelta).
  • 15-17 seat minibus: the workhorse. Ours reach the camp; a hired 17-seat Sprinter with a driver costs about 130 EUR (Megobari Tours, fuel and a Batumi airport pickup extra) to 200 USD (Cars & Rooms) a day, but check before booking that the driver will take it above Khulo.
  • 4x4 car (4 seats): goes anywhere, costs the most per person. Use it for small groups, late arrivals and the vendors.
  • Normal taxi or rental car: a normal taxi gets to Khulo, not up to Tago, and rental "jeeps" are not always 4x4. Guests without a 4x4 park in Khulo centre and take our 4x4 taxi (75 GEL per car), or drive the easier Skhalta valley road. With a 4x4 they park at the camp.

For a coach or a Sprinter of your own, these two companies publish their prices:

What does it cost per car and per guest?

At our 2026 rates, a full 15-seat minibus from Batumi costs about 27 GEL per guest one way and a 4-seat 4x4 about 66 GEL. Two minibuses for 30 guests cost 820 GEL each way, 1,640 GEL for arrival and departure.

Guests who land at the same time share a car and split the price, so a late flight does not have to mean a 4x4 for one person.

How long does it take, and how do you plan the arrival waves?

Plan 2 hours from Batumi airport to the camp, 2h30 by marshrutka to Khulo plus 30-35 minutes by 4x4, and 5h30 from Kutaisi. Then plan the waves around the flights, not the other way round.

A winding mountain road and a village in a deep valley in mountainous Adjara, lit by sun through mist
The road from Batumi climbs through mountain villages to Khulo.

On a same-day arrival, the timeline we use leaves Batumi at 09:00 and checks guests in at noon, with the ceremony at 16:00.

  1. Collect every flight in one sheet: name, flight number, landing time, number of suitcases.
  2. Group the landings. Guests whose flights land close together share a minibus. Aim for one or two minibus waves on the arrival day and a 4x4 for anyone far outside them.
  3. Give the late flights a plan. A guest landing at midnight either sleeps in Batumi and joins the morning wave or takes a 4x4 straight up.
  4. Set the departure the same way: one minibus run the morning after the wedding, timed to the earliest flight back, and cars for anyone flying later.
  5. Put one person in charge on your side, with the drivers' plan and our phone, on the arrival day.

The road is part of the trip: rain falls on about 13-15 days a month in Batumi in September and October, and at the camp on about 12 days a month. Nights at the camp drop to about 10-13°C in September and 5-8°C in October. Tell guests to keep an umbrella and a warm layer in the cabin bag, not in the suitcase under the minibus. If it rains on the day, the ceremony moves under the event tent or into the yurt.

Where do guests stay the night before?

The easiest night before is no night in Batumi at all: guests on morning and midday flights go straight up and spend their first night at the camp. Guests on late or early flights sleep in Batumi and join a morning wave.

Glamping Tago comes first for this reason: with 33 beds on site, the night before the wedding is part of the weekend, with the welcome dinner on the ridge and nobody on the road on the wedding morning (see the Glamping Tago card above). We recommend at least two nights, and most couples arrive 2-3 days early.

For guests who do stay in Batumi, a big seafront hotel makes the pickup simple: one address, one minibus, one time. These three have thousands of Google reviews each:

Vendors, late leavers and the return trip

Your photographer, DJ and host usually come from Batumi and charge their ride to Tago on top of their fee. A 4x4 for vendors, Batumi and back, costs 530 GEL, so pool them into one car where you can.

An outdoor wedding reception with a large event tent and glamping tents against mountains at sunset
Once everyone sleeps on site, nobody needs a car home after the party.

A vendor who leaves early, such as a videographer after the first dance, needs a car of their own back. So does any guest who leaves before the party ends: book that 4x4 in advance, because no taxis pass by on the ridge.

For the return trip, book the minibuses at the same time as the arrival. Because everyone sleeps on site, the group leaves together after the wedding, in one or two runs timed to the first flights home.

Step by step: what to book and when

  1. 6-12 months before for a June to September date: book the venue. Message Anastasia, our Events & Groups manager, on WhatsApp +995 599 29 97 57; a 30% prepayment confirms the date.
  2. When the date is fixed: tell guests which airport to use (Batumi first, Kutaisi second) and the arrival day you want them on.
  3. As guests book flights: collect them in one sheet. Book the hotel block in Batumi for guests who land late.
  4. 30 days before: send the venue the full programme, with the arrival and departure days.
  5. 7 days before: the final headcount and the rooming list.
  6. A few days before: send every arrival time and pickup address. We build the waves and confirm the vehicles.
  7. On the day: one person from your side has the plan and our number; guests pay their own extras in cash at reception.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the driver follow the map to Chao. Chao is a different village, 1.6 km from Tago in a straight line but 13 km away by road. Give drivers our Maps.me pin.
  • Counting on the Khulo cable car. It is closed for repair with no reopening date. A car meets guests in Khulo instead.
  • Booking a 50-seat coach to the door. It stops in Khulo. Without minibuses waiting there, 50 people stand on the roadside.
  • Sending guests by app taxi to Khulo. The ride is about 2 hours and up to 175 GEL, drivers often ask for more because they return empty, and they cannot drive up to Tago.
  • Paying the driver. Transfers are paid in cash at our reception.
  • Planning around the Kutaisi train. Four trains a day leave the airport station for Batumi, but between the 10:40 and the 17:51 there is nothing for seven hours.
  • Forgetting the vendors. Their transport is not in their fee unless it says so.

Questions people ask

How much does it cost per guest to get from Batumi airport to a mountain wedding venue in Adjara?

At Glamping Tago a 15-seat minibus from Batumi costs 410 GEL one way, about 27 GEL per guest when it is full. Two minibuses for 30 guests cost 820 GEL each way. A 4-seat 4x4 costs 265 GEL, about 66 GEL per guest.

Can a big coach bus reach a mountain wedding venue in Adjara?

A coach reaches Khulo on the asphalt road from Batumi, but not Glamping Tago: the last stretch is for 4x4 cars and minibuses only. Bigger groups take a coach to Khulo and change to our 15-seat minibuses there, at 135 GEL per minibus.

Should wedding guests fly into Batumi or Kutaisi?

Batumi, when the flights allow it: the venue is about 87 km and about 2 hours from the terminal. Kutaisi has cheap Wizz Air flights but is 218 km from the venue via Batumi; guests take a coach (25-30 GEL, 2-3 hours) or one of four daily trains to Batumi, or our 4x4 at 465 GEL per car.

How long is the drive from Batumi airport to Glamping Tago?

About 2 hours by minibus or 4x4. The first 80-85 km to Khulo are asphalt; the last 8.6 km climb a mountain road to 1,200 m. By marshrutka the trip to Khulo takes about 2h30, plus 30-35 minutes by 4x4 taxi.

Can wedding guests use public transport to get to Tago?

Yes. Marshrutkas leave the old Batumi bus station on Mayakovski Street every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 20:00, about 10 GEL to Khulo. From the Khulo cable car station a 4x4 taxi takes up to 4 people to Tago for 75 GEL per car.

Do guests pay the driver?

No. Transfers are paid in cash at our reception at the camp, never to the driver, so guests should carry lari. Guests who land at the same time can share one car and split the price.

What if our wedding has more than 30 guests?

The camp has 33 beds and is built for weddings of about 30. Bigger weddings, up to about 100 guests, use the family guesthouses in Tago village a few minutes below the camp, and our drivers bring those guests up and down. For that size, plan more minibus waves, or a coach to Khulo with our minibuses waiting there.

Is the Khulo cable car running?

No. The Khulo-Tago cable car is closed for repair with no reopening date. Guests coming by marshrutka take a 4x4 taxi from the cable car station in Khulo, or we send a car.

How do we book the transfers?

Book them with the venue: message Anastasia, our Events & Groups manager, on WhatsApp +995 599 29 97 57. A few days before the wedding, send every guest's arrival time and pickup address, and we confirm the waves and the vehicles.
