Georgia is a beautiful country with a rich and varied nature and a mild climate that allows tourists to come here almost all year round. Different climatic zones are concentrated here, from subtropical to temperate, depending on the region. In general, each region in the country is unique, but in this post we decided to focus on Adjara – one of the most picturesque sides in the southwest of the country.
Adjara is one of the most picturesque regions in Georgia. On a small plot of land, beaches, ridges, forests, waterfalls, gorges, lakes, rivers, and many other natural objects are concentrated. Below we will tell you about a place little known to many tourists and hidden among the Adjara mountains – this is Green Lake. Here you can get a lot of useful information, knowing which you can safely go on a hike!
Green Lake is located in Adjara, Khulo municipality, in the northern part of the Arsiani ridge, surrounded by huge green and coniferous mountains. The lake has a unique green color, which is why it was called that. The lake is located near the Goderzi pass at an altitude of 2133m, from sea level. There is also a balneological resort Beshumi nearby.
The green lake attracts with its beauty, tranquility, and the indescribable green color of the water and creates a desire to return here again to observe this nature for a long time.
First of all, it should be noted that none of the public transports travel directly to Green Lake. You can use public transport to reach certain points near Green Lake. Let’s take a look at several options for your route (read below)
There are several alternatives for this route.
The minibus Batumi – Abastumani, Adigeni – passes Goderdzi. This is where you should get off. Leaves at 8:00. The price of the trip is 13 GEL.
The minibus Batumi – Danisparauli leaves at 11:15 and 15:00. The price of the trip is 8 GEL. It reaches the village of Danisparauli, about 3 kilometers to Goderdzi.
As for the Khulo – Goderdzi route, you can get from Khulo to Goderdzi by public transport. The minibus leaves the center of Khulo at 10:00, 11:00, 14:00, 16:00. Look for a sign with the name “გოდერძი” on the minibus. The price depends on the driver. But the approximate price should not exceed 7 lari.
Also, from September 1, 2021, until about the end of the month, free public transport is open, which goes from Khulo to Beshumi and passes Goderdzi. Departure time at 8:00, departure time back to Khulo at 20:00.

The same route Khulo – Beshumi passes paid transport, which leaves the center of Khulo at 17:00 and returns back at 8:00 in the morning of the next day. But keep in mind that if the number of passengers does not make up at least half of the minibus, then the transport will not go in this direction.

As we already mentioned, the road from Khulo to Green Lake lies through Goderdzi. The road is not paved on this route. Only in some sections / intervals the road from Goderdzi to Green Lake is covered with asphalt. In this regard, it is advisable to travel by SUV.

Guest House Luka
At the closest distance from Green Lake is the guest house “Luka”

The price for an overnight stay is about 70-80 lari. The hosts allow guests to prepare their meals.
From this guest house, Green Lake is about 3.5 kilometers.
By car, the journey will take about 10-12 minutes.
Walking time will be about an hour.

Guesthouse Oasis, Khulo, Ghurta
This guest house is located approximately 16.3 kilometers from Green Lake.

Oasis Guest House features a bar, shared lounge, garden. It offers a 24-hour front desk and a shared kitchen. All rooms have a microwave, refrigerator, kettle, shower, free toiletries, and a work desk. The guest house rooms have a seating area. A continental breakfast is served at Oasis Guest House.
You can play billiards and table tennis on-site, and the area is popular for skiing and cycling.
Travel time by car from the guest house to Green Lake will take you a little less than an hour.
Unfortunately, there are no food facilities near Green Lake, as well as food markets. Keep in mind that you will have to take food with you. This is a great opportunity to have a picnic with friends and light a fire.

Waterfall in Makhuntseti
On the way, you can see the bridge and waterfall in Makhuntseti.

It is one of the most popular and famous waterfalls in Georgia. Located in Keda municipality, in the village of Makhuntseti, at an altitude of 335 meters above sea level, on the right side of the Adjaristskali River. The height of the waterfall is 50 meters.
The waterfall can be reached both by car and by minibus, as it is located near the main road. The waterfall is free to visit at any time of the year.
Khulo Cable Car
Khulo municipality is located on the way to the Goderzi Pass. The famous cable car goes up from the center of Khulo to the village of Tago.
The Khulo cable car is unique in its kind. It was built in 1985 and is 1.919 meters long. Along the entire length of the cable car from Khulo to Tago, there is not single intermediate support. At the same time, the road passes at an altitude of 350 meters, over the gorge of the Adjaristskali River.
