The road from Tbilisi directly to Khulo is only drivable by a 4 X 4 car! We do not recommend to drive this road with an non-4X4 car.

Be sure to check if your “jeep” actually has 4X4 drive. As many car rentals in Georgia rent “jeeps” without 4X4 drive.

3 Ways To Get To Khulo From Batumi

The distance from Batumi to the center of Khulo is 85 km. It is two hours to two hours and a half by car.

There are several ways to get to Khulo:

1. Public transport – you can take a minibus also known here as a “marshrutka”;
2. You can order a taxi;
3. You can rent a car;

The road from Batumi to Khulo is completely asphalted, so road quality is definitely not something you should be worried about. Sometimes there are pieces with potholes but there is no need for a 4 wheel drive car.

Please note that there are repair works ongoing on a small section of the road in Shuakhevi, which may result in occasional closures. The road is open from 13:00 to 14:00 and after 17:00.

Based on this information, we recommend departing from Batumi around 10:30 – 11:00 to ensure timely arrival in Shuakhevi.

The distance from Shuakhevi to Khulo is 17km (approximately 20-25 minutes by car).

Public Transport to Khulo

From the old bus station in Batumi, the so-called “marshrutka” – minibus departs. The stencil will indicate Batumi – Khulo ხულო (in Georgian, but you can ask the locals). The cost of the trip is approximately 10 GEL.The minibus will stop in the middle of the road so you can get some fresh air, go to the toilet and get some food. At the bus station there are also options to get food.
