For a group retreat of 20 to 30 people in Georgia (the country), the three regions people compare win on different things. Kazbegi is the coolest in July, Kakheti is the closest to Tbilisi's international airport and the best for wine, and mountainous Adjara is the easiest place to take a whole venue for your group alone, with the Batumi airport about 2.5 hours away.

Below: one table with the numbers, then a straight answer to each question a retreat organiser asks, with the venues we would actually shortlist. We run Glamping Tago in the Adjara mountains, so we say where Adjara loses as plainly as where it wins.

Adjara, Kakheti or Kazbegi: which is best for a retreat?

Adjara wins on privacy and summer comfort for a group that wants a venue to itself, Kakheti wins on access from Tbilisi and on wine, and Kazbegi wins on cool weather and big-mountain scenery. The table puts the deciding numbers side by side.

Which region is coolest in July?

Kazbegi. Stepantsminda has an official July mean of 14.4 C and an average hottest-month maximum of 20.3 C, so afternoons stay around 20 C and nights drop to about 8 C. The Adjara mountains come second and Kakheti is the hottest of the three.

Kazbegi. At 1,740 m the town is cool even in August: the international normals give a July mean daily maximum of 20.2 C and a minimum of 7.7 C. Georgia's tourism board tells visitors to pack warm clothes in any month. The catch is cloud: May to July is Kazbegi's wettest stretch, with 126 mm of rain in July alone, and Mount Kazbek hides in cloud on 50-60% of days even in summer.

Adjara mountains. The official Khulo station (923 m) has a July mean of 18.6 C and a hottest-month maximum of 25.0 C. Our camp sits higher, at about 1,200 m above Village Tago, so the evenings are cooler still: warm days and cold nights is what we tell every guest who asks about July. Travel in Georgia puts summer in the higher parts of Adjara at 17-21 C.

Kakheti. Telavi's official July mean is 22.9 C with an average maximum of 28.9 C, and Georgia Spirit notes that the Alazani valley can pass 35 C in July and August. The Kvareli station is hotter again, with a hottest-month maximum of 29.9 C. Kakheti in high summer suits a retreat built around a pool and a shaded terrace, not afternoon sessions outside.

Which region is closest to an airport?

Kakheti, measured from Tbilisi, the airport most international flights use. Telavi is 82.7 km from Tbilisi airport, about 1 h 50 by transfer, and Kiketi Farm near Tbilisi is 44.6 km. Adjara's mountains are as close to Batumi airport, but Batumi has far fewer routes.

Transfer prices for Tbilisi are the fixed per-car fares of TravelAroundGeorgia, where a minivan takes 7 passengers; ours are on our getting here page. Our 4x4s take 4 people each, so a group of 28 needs seven of them (1,855 GEL one way from Batumi). A group minibus is the cheaper way up: it takes the Skhalta valley road from the Zamleti turn-off, 94 km and about 2 hours from Batumi.

The honest point about Adjara is the flights. Tbilisi airport handled 4.75 million passengers in 2024; Batumi handled a record 1.23 million in 2025. Batumi has direct flights from Istanbul, Riga, Kazakhstan, Dubai and Israel among others (route map), but no Wizz Air. Wizz Air flies to Kutaisi, and from there it is 215 km to our camp through Batumi. Georgian Airways and Ak Air fly Tbilisi to Batumi on the domestic route, which saves a group landing in Tbilisi the 385 km drive. If half your group lands in Tbilisi, Kakheti is still the simpler choice; a group that flies via Istanbul can land in Batumi.

Kazbegi is the furthest from an airport, and the only road in is the Georgian Military Highway over the Jvari pass. Georgia's Roads Department closed the Gudauri-Kobi section to all traffic 13 times in winter 2025-26, between 9 January and 23 April.

Which region is cheapest for a group of 20-30?

It depends on what you are buying. Kazbegi has the cheapest beds (guesthouse twins from 72 GEL a night), but only as rooms in shared houses. For a whole venue to yourselves, Adjara is the cheapest of the three that publishes a price: Glamping Tago costs 1,962 to 4,488 GEL a night for the entire camp, up to 33 people.

Ready-made 7-day retreat in KazbegiUS$2,500 per person, shared doubleZen Travel, 15-21 August 2026

Our buyout prices are on the retreats page and broken down in our retreat cost guide. Kazbegi prices are from The Georgian Guide, and the Kazbegi programme is Zen Travel's 7-day retreat.

The month moves the price more than the region. Georgia Spirit puts July accommodation 20-40% above the shoulder season, and Kazbegi guesthouses are 20-30% cheaper in September than in July. Our own whole-camp rate in October is about half the July rate.

Which region is quietest?

The quietest retreat is the one where nobody else is staying, and that depends on the venue more than the region. As regions, Kazbegi is the busiest in summer, Kakheti's countryside is quiet outside harvest weekends, and Adjara's crowds stay on the Batumi coast.

Kazbegi draws 592,000 foreign visitors a year (GNTA 2025 figures), up 16%, and many arrive on 10-12 hour day tours from Tbilisi that cost US$7-26 per person. In July and August the churchyard of Gergeti Trinity Church is packed with tour groups from 11:00 to 16:00; the village goes quiet once the day trips leave in the afternoon.

Kakheti had only 4% of region visits in 2025. Its quiet is real in the villages, but the big resorts there host weddings and families, so a retreat inside one shares the pool and the dining room.

Adjara had 25.7% of region visits, the most of any region, and Batumi alone 2.6 million foreign visitors. Almost all of that is the coast. Upstream in Khulo municipality, beds are few, and at our camp the whole ridge belongs to one group at a time.

Which region has whole-venue options for 20-30 people?

Adjara has the clearest one: Glamping Tago takes 12 to 33 people with everyone sleeping on site and nobody else booked in. Kakheti has a few small estates that fit 20-30, Kiketi Farm near Tbilisi has a yoga house for 15-50, and Kazbegi has no venue that advertises exclusive hire for a group this size.

Glamping Tago (our venue), Khulo, Adjara

  • Where: on the ridge above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, at about 1,200 m
  • From the airport: 87.4 km from Batumi airport, 2 h 30 by private 4x4
  • Capacity: 12 to 33 people, all sleeping on site: 12 Lotus tents for two and a nine-bed Half Dome
  • Price from (2026): 1,962 GEL a night for the whole camp in April, 4,488 GEL in July and August; meals 100 GEL per person a day
  • Season: 1 April to the end of October

The whole camp belongs to your group from arrival to departure. The whole group practises on the 138 m2 outdoor platform under a sailcloth tent, which holds 50 or more on mats and whose sides roll down in wind or rain; the 38 m2 yoga dome with a wood stove fits 10-12 for smaller circles. The mats, blocks, straps, projector, screen, speaker and microphone are already there. Meals come from Yurtalicious, our vegetarian yurt restaurant on site, the evening sauna is free for staying guests, and Starlink wifi runs at about 300 Mbps for the one call somebody always has to take.

Eco House Merisi, Keda, Adjara

  • Where: Silibauri, Keda municipality, at about 800 m
  • From the airport: 49.1 km from Batumi airport
  • Capacity: cottages and villas, a restaurant hall for 50; a full buyout is priced individually
  • Season: all year

The closest mountain stay to Batumi with a strong record: 4.9 stars from over 1,500 Google reviews, and reviewers keep mentioning the quiet and the view over the valley. It sells full-hotel buyouts for weddings, each priced individually, so ask for the same for a retreat.

Hotel Ambassadori Goderdzi, Khulo, Adjara

  • Where: at the Goderdzi ski resort on the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road; Khulo is on the way
  • From the airport: 106.6 km from Batumi airport
  • Capacity: a ski hotel shared with other guests
  • Season: all year (ski hotel)

A full-service hotel with a spa, for a group that wants hotel rooms in the Adjara mountains rather than tents. It is a hotel with other guests, not a private venue.

Vazisubani Estate, Kakheti

  • Where: between Telavi and Sighnaghi
  • From the airport: Tbilisi airport
  • Capacity: 19 rooms for up to 38 guests; conference room for 40
  • Price: on request

A restored 19th-century palace in 35 ha of vineyards, with a 140-year-old cellar, a pool, a spa and sunrise yoga, and a conference room for 40. A group of 20-30 fills most of the house, which is as close to a buyout as Kakheti gets at this size.

Horizons Bakurtsikhe, Kakheti

  • Where: Bakurtsikhe, Kakheti
  • From the airport: 94 km from Tbilisi airport
  • Capacity: pods; group size on request
  • Price: on request

A small design getaway with pods, a barrel sauna, a pool and a firepit, which offers yoga and wellness retreats for small groups with a guest kitchen. Reviews in 2026 praise the privacy and the hosts.

Tsinandali Estate (Radisson Collection), Kakheti

  • Where: Tsinandali, near Telavi
  • From the airport: 92.9 km from Tbilisi airport
  • Capacity: 124 rooms; Saperavi Room for 30, amphitheatre up to 700

The choice for a corporate retreat that wants a big hotel, a wine estate and meeting rooms with the projector included. You share it with everyone else staying there.

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, Kakheti

  • Where: Napareuli, Telavi municipality
  • From the airport: 105.1 km from Tbilisi airport
  • Capacity: 310 rooms in 16 buildings
  • Price: on request

A big lake resort with pools, a spa and its own winery. It is built for families, which makes it lively rather than quiet.

Kiketi Farm, near Tbilisi

  • Where: Kiketi, Kvemo Kartli, outside Kakheti
  • From the airport: 44.6 km from Tbilisi airport, about an hour
  • Capacity: Yoga House for 15-50, pavilions for 25 and 30
  • Price: on request

The closest option to Tbilisi with a dedicated yoga house, treehouses and a spa. At weekends it is a busy family day-trip farm.

Rooms Kazbegi, Stepantsminda

  • Where: Stepantsminda, at 1,740 m, facing Mount Kazbek
  • From the airport: 169.9 km from Tbilisi airport
  • Capacity: shared hotel; restaurant for 80
  • Price from (2026): 700-810 GEL a room a night

Kazbegi's best-known hotel and the one most guides send groups to, for the view straight across to Kazbek and Gergeti. For a retreat it means a block of rooms in a busy hotel.

Kazbegi's closest thing to taking a whole house is a small guesthouse such as Residence Kazbegi, with 9 rooms and 25 beds; for a group of 30 that is already too small.

Where does Adjara lose?

On rain, on flights, on the last stretch of road and on wine. If any of these is a deal-breaker for your group, pick Kakheti or Kazbegi.

  • Rain. Khulo gets 1,228 mm a year against 794 mm in Telavi, and Batumi on the coast 2,599 mm, the wettest station in this comparison. Khulo averages 18 rain days in July, so plan a covered space for every session.
  • Flights. Batumi has a fraction of Tbilisi's routes and no Wizz Air. Groups flying into Tbilisi face a 385 km, 5 h 45 transfer to Batumi.
  • The road. The last stretch from Khulo up to Tago is a 4x4 track. A group minibus reaches the camp by the longer Skhalta valley road.
  • Fewer venues. Adjara's mountains have only a handful of venues that take a group of 20-30.
  • No wine country. Kakheti's rtveli harvest runs from about 18 September to 15 October 2026; in Adjara the Chkhaveri harvest ends the season in December. A wine retreat belongs in Kakheti.
  • Short season. Our camp is closed from November to March.

Which region suits which kind of retreat?

Match the region to the programme, then pick the venue.

  • Yoga, meditation or a silent retreat: Adjara, in a buyout, so the quiet is yours. Glamping Tago's platform and dome were built for it.
  • Wine retreat or a team offsite with tastings: Kakheti, ideally during rtveli in September and October. Hire drivers: Georgia's drink-driving fines are strict, as Madloba reminds every visitor.
  • Hiking and altitude: Kazbegi in July and August for the coolest days, or Adjara in June and September when the mountains are green and quiet.
  • A short corporate retreat from Tbilisi: Kiketi Farm or a Kakheti estate, under 2 hours from the airport.
  • A summer retreat that escapes the heat: Kazbegi or the Adjara mountains, never Kakheti in July.

How do you choose and book a retreat venue, step by step?

  1. Pick the month first. July and August point to Kazbegi or Adjara; September and October to Kakheti or Adjara; November to March rules out our camp and makes Kazbegi a winter-road gamble.
  2. Count where your group flies in. Mostly Tbilisi: Kakheti or Kazbegi. Mostly Istanbul connections or Batumi: Adjara.
  3. Ask every venue one question: whole venue or room block? A buyout changes the whole retreat; a room block in a 124-room hotel is a different product.
  4. Get the quote in writing for beds, meals and practice space. Ours lists the camp per night and meals per person per day, and venues in Kakheti quote per group. At Glamping Tago a short video call with our retreat coordinator comes first, and 30% of the total holds your dates.
  5. Book transfers per car. Fix the minibuses and 4x4s for arrival day as soon as you know the flights.
  6. Send meal counts per day. Arrival dinner, three meals on the full days, departure breakfast: venues plan food per person per day.
  7. Check insurance. Since 1 January 2026 foreign visitors to Georgia need travel insurance of at least 30,000 GEL, as our yoga retreat guide explains.

What should a retreat group pack and expect at a mountain venue?

Pack for cold nights and rain in all three regions, even in July. Kazbegi nights drop to about 8 C, and the Georgian tourism board tells visitors to bring warm clothes in any month; the Adjara mountains have warm days and cold nights.

At Glamping Tago:

  • Sleeping: the tents have heating and sockets but no air conditioning. Towels and full bedding are provided; the toilets and hot showers are in two shared bathhouse blocks, not inside the tents.
  • Signal: Starlink wifi at about 300 Mbps covers calls and streaming; Magti has the best mobile coverage on the ridge.
  • Rain plan: the platform sides roll down, the yurt restaurant seats the group for meals, and the dome takes 10-12 for a smaller circle.
  • Diet: the kitchen is fully vegetarian, with milk, eggs and honey. Send special diets before you arrive.
  • Parking: with a 4x4 you park at the camp; without one, park in Khulo centre and take our 4x4 taxi up (75 GEL per car).

Common mistakes when planning a retreat in Georgia

  • Judging the drive by the kilometres. Our camp is 87.4 km from Batumi airport and still takes 2.5 hours, because the last part is a mountain road.
  • Packing for summer only. Nights are cold in Kazbegi and in the Adjara mountains even in August; bring a warm layer and a rain shell.
  • Running a silent retreat in a shared hotel. Other guests, weddings and day-trippers do not keep silence.
  • Planning a winter retreat in Kazbegi without a buffer day. The Jvari pass closes after heavy snow, usually for hours and sometimes for 1-3 days.
  • Visiting Gergeti at midday. Arrive when it opens at 9:00, before the tour groups.
  • Putting a wine retreat in July. Kakheti is at its hottest and the harvest is still two months away.

Questions people ask

Which is better for a retreat in Georgia: Adjara, Kakheti or Kazbegi?

It depends on what decides your retreat. Kazbegi is the coolest in summer, Kakheti is the closest to Tbilisi airport and the place for wine, and the Adjara mountains are where a group of 20-30 can book a whole venue, such as Glamping Tago, with everyone sleeping on site.

Which region of Georgia is coolest in July?

Kazbegi. Stepantsminda at 1,740 m has an official July mean of 14.4 C and a hottest-month maximum of 20.3 C. Khulo in the Adjara mountains averages 18.6 C in July, and Telavi in Kakheti 22.9 C, with peaks above 35 C in the Alazani valley.

Which retreat region is closest to an airport?

Kakheti, from Tbilisi: Telavi is 82.7 km from Tbilisi airport, about 1 h 50 by transfer. Glamping Tago in Adjara is 87.4 km from Batumi airport but takes 2 h 30 on mountain roads, and Kazbegi is about 170 km and 3 to 3.5 hours from Tbilisi airport.

Is Kakheti or Kazbegi cheaper for a group retreat?

Kazbegi has cheaper beds, with guesthouse twins from 72 GEL a night, but Rooms Kazbegi costs 700-810 GEL a room. Kakheti's small estates quote group prices on request. For a whole venue, Glamping Tago in Adjara costs 1,962 to 4,488 GEL a night for up to 33 people, plus 100 GEL per person a day for meals.

Where in Georgia can a group of 30 book a whole venue?

Glamping Tago in the Adjara mountains takes 12 to 33 people with nobody else on site. In Kakheti, Vazisubani Estate has 19 rooms for up to 38 guests, so a group of 30 fills most of it. Kazbegi has no venue that advertises exclusive hire for a group of this size.

Can we hold a retreat in Kazbegi in winter?

Yes, but plan a buffer day. The Jvari pass on the only road from Tbilisi closes after heavy snow, usually for a few hours and sometimes for 1-3 days; the Gudauri-Kobi section closed 13 times in winter 2025-26. Glamping Tago is closed from November to March.

How do retreat guests get to Glamping Tago?

Most fly into Batumi and take a private 4x4 for the 87.4 km, about 2 h 30, at 265 GEL per car for up to 4 people; from Kutaisi airport it is 5 h 30 and 465 GEL per car. A group minibus reaches the camp by the Skhalta valley road, about 2 hours from Batumi. Marshrutkas run from Batumi to Khulo every 30 minutes for about 10 GEL, then a 4x4 taxi up costs 75 GEL per car.

How much does a retreat in Georgia cost per person?

A 3-5 day retreat costs about US$230-490 per person, and a week from EUR 700 up to US$2,900 sharing a room. A 7-day programme in Kazbegi in August 2026 costs US$2,500 in a shared double. Organising your own at Glamping Tago in July works out at about 150 GEL per person a night for 30 people, plus meals.

Can a group fit more than 33 people at Glamping Tago?

The camp sleeps 33. For bigger groups, 7 family guesthouses in Village Tago add 64 beds in 27 rooms, a 3-10 minute walk from the camp, while sessions and meals stay at the camp.
