Retreat weather in the Adjara mountains (Georgia), month by month: 2026 guide
Published 17 October 202618 min readPrices and facts checked: October 2026
At 1,200 m in the mountains of Adjara, July days reach 24-28°C with nights around 15°C, cooler than Tbilisi's 30-34°C, but rain falls on 11-16 days a month. The best months for yoga outdoors are late June to mid-September; here is every month with sunrise, packing and the comparison with Batumi and Tbilisi.

The mountains of Adjara give a retreat what Tbilisi and Kakheti cannot in midsummer: days of 24-28°C in July at 1,200 m and nights around 15°C, against 30-34°C days in the capital. The price is rain. Showers come on 11 to 16 days in every month of the season, so a good mountain retreat is planned around a covered space, not around a forecast.
This guide gives you the numbers month by month for Glamping Tago, our camp above Village Tago in Khulo municipality, about 2 hours from Batumi: day and night temperatures, rain days, sunrise and sunset, what runs outdoors, what to pack, and how the same weeks look on the Batumi coast, in Tbilisi, in Kakheti and in Kazbegi. The camp figures are ten-year averages for the camp's own coordinates from two independent climate records (Open-Meteo and NASA POWER), not the numbers for Khulo town in the valley below.
Which retreat base fits your dates?
For a group of up to 30 that wants to practise outdoors from June to September, a mountain camp in Adjara is the cool option; for a winter or a large retreat, a year-round hotel near Tbilisi or in Kakheti is the practical one. Here is how the bases in this guide compare on the points that decide a retreat date.
| Whole venue for your group | Everyone sleeps on site | Outdoor sessions in July | Drive from the nearest airport | Capacity | Open | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glamping Tago, Khulo (Adjara) | Yes, one group at a time | Yes | Days 24-28°C, nights about 15°C | 87 km from Batumi airport, about 2 h | 12 to 33 guests | April to October |
| Eco House Merisi, Keda (Adjara) | Shared unless you buy it out | Yes, in cottages and villas | Days 22-26°C, nights about 16°C | 49 km from Batumi airport | Cottages and 2 villas | All year |
| Kiketi Farm, above Tbilisi | Shared with day visitors | Yes, in its hotels | Days 25-29°C, nights about 16°C | 45 km from Tbilisi airport | Yoga House for 15-50 | All year |
| Lopota Lake Resort, Kakheti | No, a large resort | Yes | Days 29-32°C | 105 km from Tbilisi airport | 310 rooms | All year |
| Rooms Kazbegi, Kazbegi | No, a public hotel | Yes | Days 20-23°C, nights about 12°C | 170 km from Tbilisi airport, 3 h or more | A large hotel, no buyout | All year |
Glamping Tago (our venue), Adjara mountains
- Where: on the ridge above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, mountainous Adjara, at 1,200 m
- Drive: about 2 hours from Batumi; the last stretch up from Khulo takes 30-35 minutes
- Group size: 12 to 33 guests, the whole camp for one group, everyone sleeping on site
- Practice spaces: a 138 m2 platform under a sailcloth tent and a 38 m2 yoga dome with a wood stove
- Price: whole camp from 1,962 GEL a night in April 2026
- Season: 1 April to the end of October
The weather tables below are for this ridge. A retreat here gets the cool mountain summer, and both practice spaces are covered, so the programme runs rain or shine. Groups ran retreats here in May, June, July and August 2026, with yoga on the deck or in the dome whatever the sky did.
Eco House Merisi, Keda (Adjara)
- Where: Silibauri, Keda municipality, up its own side valley
- Drive: 49 km from Batumi airport
- Stay: cottages with glass bedrooms and 2 villas, plus a glass restaurant with two halls (Merisi weddings and events)
- Season: all year
Merisi sits lower in the Keda valley, so its nights are a little warmer than ours: about 16°C in July and 12-15°C in September. It is a hotel rather than a retreat centre, with no yoga programme or teacher of its own, so you bring both.
What is the weather like in the Adjara mountains, month by month?
At 1,200 m in Khulo the season runs from cool, showery April (days about 15°C, nights 2-4°C) to a warm July and August (days 24-28°C, nights 15-17°C) and back to crisp October (days about 18°C, nights 5-8°C). Rain falls on 11 to 16 days in every month, mostly as showers rather than all-day rain.
| Month | Days | Nights | Rain days | Outdoor sessions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April | about 15°C | 2-4°C | about 13 | Midday only; mornings in the heated dome |
| May | about 19°C | 6-9°C | about 16, the wettest of the season | Platform by day, sides ready to roll down |
| June | about 24°C | 11-13°C | about 14 | Outdoors most of the day |
| July | 24-28°C | about 15°C | about 14 | Outdoors from sunrise to sunset |
| August | the warmest month | 15-17°C | about 11, the fewest | Outdoors from sunrise to sunset |
| September | 22-25°C | 10-13°C | about 12 | Outdoors by day, evenings by the fire |
| October | about 18°C | 5-8°C | about 12 | Late morning to afternoon; dawn in the dome |
| November to March | 12°C in November, 4°C in January | -1 to 3°C in November, -7°C in January | snow on the ground most days from December to March | Camp closed |
The official climate normals for the Khulo station tell the same story: the monthly mean climbs from 9.4°C in April to 19.4°C in August and falls back to 13.3°C in October, with an absolute maximum of 39°C and a minimum of -18°C on record (Georgian building-climate norms for Khulo). Inland Adjara is drier than the coast because the ridges catch the sea air first: Khulo gets about 1,228 mm of rain and snow a year against about 2,435 mm in Batumi.

April. Spring arrives late at 1,200 m. Days reach about 15°C, nights drop to 2-4°C, and the chance of a day with mixed snow and rain is still a few percent at the start of the month (WeatherSpark). Run the first session of the day with the platform sides down (or in the heated dome for a circle of up to 12), and open the platform from late morning.
May. Everything is green and the rain is at its peak for the season: about 16 rain days, with days of about 19°C and nights of 6-9°C.
June. The longest days of the year (15 h 12 min of daylight on 21 June) and nights of 11-13°C. The sky clears through the month: the share of cloudy time drops from about 40% to 17% (WeatherSpark, June). Rhododendrons flower on the Goderdzi slopes between about 1,600 and 2,000 m in June and July, so a June retreat can plan its high-mountain day around them.

July and August. The best weeks for a fully outdoor programme. Days reach 24-28°C in July, nights stay around 15-17°C, and August has the fewest rain days of the season (about 11). August is the clearest month of the year in Khulo, with the sky overcast or mostly cloudy only 8-13% of the time (WeatherSpark, August), the best odds for a sunrise class with a view.
September. Days still reach 22-25°C and nights fall to 10-13°C, so mornings and evenings need a fleece. Cloud comes back through the month (overcast from about 14% to 41% of the time, WeatherSpark, September), so put the sunrise classes and the big views in the first half.
October. Crisp and quiet: days about 18°C, nights 5-8°C, rain on about 12 days. Above 2,000 m the autumn colours peak from late September to the first half of October (Wander-Lush). The camp closes at the end of the month.

November to March. The camp is closed. November days reach about 12°C with nights of -1 to 3°C, and from December to March snow lies on the ground most days, with January nights around -7°C.
Which months are best for yoga and sessions outdoors?
For a programme that is mostly outdoors, choose late June to mid-September: days of 22-28°C, nights of 10-17°C and the clearest skies of the year in late July and August. May and October work well for a retreat that is happy to move between the platform and the dome.
- Best for outdoor yoga at sunrise and sunset: July and August. Nights stay around 15-17°C, so even the 6:00 class on the platform is comfortable in a long sleeve.
- Best balance of warmth, quiet and price: September. The Prague Yoga Collective runs its 7-day retreat at Glamping Tago in late August and mid-September for the third year.
- Best for silence and inward retreats: October. Shorter days, cold nights and the sauna every evening suit meditation, Vipassana and digital detox weeks; our own autumn retreats run in the second half of October.
- Possible with a plan B: April and May. Practise in the dome in the mornings and outdoors from late morning.
Many groups run a sunrise class in the indoor shala and an evening session on the platform at sunset (morning yoga at Glamping Tago).

When does it rain, and how do you plan a retreat day around it?
Expect rain on about a quarter to a third of the days. The daily chance of a wet day in Khulo sits at about 23-28% from April to August and rises to 30-37% in October (WeatherSpark). Most of it comes as showers, and short heavy downpours happen in every month.
Plan the day so that nothing depends on a dry afternoon:
- Morning practice under cover. The 138 m2 platform sits under a sailcloth tent, open on three sides, and holds 50 or more on mats. When the wind, rain or cold comes, the sides roll down, so this is where a full group of 30 practises in bad weather.
- The dome for smaller circles. The 38 m2 yoga dome has a glass front onto the mountains, a wood stove for cold days and room for 10-12 people on mats (our retreats page), so split a big group or use it for breakouts, talks and films. Mats, blocks and blankets are provided, so nobody has to carry a mat up the mountain.
- Hikes and day trips in the morning. Cloud builds through the day over the high ground, so go out early and keep the afternoon for workshops.
- Evenings that work in any weather. The wood-fired sauna is lit every evening, with a cold plunge next to it, and it is free for staying guests. The campfire burns when the weather allows; movie night is on the platform on a clear evening and moves into the dome when it is not, and the projector only gives a good picture after dark.

What time is sunrise and sunset, and when should morning practice start?
In the Adjara mountains the sun rises between 5:35 and 6:05 from mid-May to the end of July, and sets after 20:30 from late May to late July. In October sunrise moves past 7:00 and sunset comes before 19:00. Georgia keeps GMT+4 all year, with no daylight-saving change.
| Month | Sunrise in Khulo | Sunset in Khulo | Tbilisi, typical |
|---|---|---|---|
| April | 6:54 to 6:09 | 19:35 to 20:07 | 6:22 / 19:41 |
| May | 6:07 to 5:39 | 20:08 to 20:37 | 5:42 / 20:13 |
| June | 5:35 to 5:40 | 20:37 to 20:49 | 5:26 / 20:37 |
| July | 5:40 to 6:03 | 20:49 to 20:29 | 5:40 / 20:35 |
| August | 6:04 to 6:35 | 20:28 to 19:46 | 6:10 / 20:03 |
| September | 6:36 to 7:06 | 19:44 to 18:54 | 6:41 / 19:13 |
| October | 7:07 to 7:41 | 18:52 to 18:06 | 7:13 / 18:21 |
Times are for the first and last day of each month in Khulo, in Georgian time (WeatherSpark, Khulo), and the monthly reference for Tbilisi (SolarWatch). Some sunrise apps show Khulo in Turkish time, an hour behind: set the class times by Georgian time. Daylight runs from 15 h 12 min on 21 June to 9 h 9 min in late December.

A practical schedule for June to August: the morning class from about 6:30 and the sunset session on the platform from about 19:30. In September move the evening session to about 18:30, and in October start the morning class around 7:30 and finish the evening session by 18:00, before the cold comes in.
How does the Adjara mountains' weather compare with Batumi, Tbilisi, Kakheti and Kazbegi?
In July and August the Adjara mountains are about 4-6°C cooler by day than Tbilisi and Kakheti and 6-8°C cooler at night than Batumi. Tbilisi and Kakheti have far fewer rain days, Batumi has the sea, and Kazbegi is cooler still but has a shorter, wetter spring.
| Place | July days | July nights | Rain | The wettest stretch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glamping Tago, Khulo (1,200 m) | 24-28°C | about 15°C | 11-16 days a month | May, about 16 rain days |
| Batumi, on the coast | about 25°C, humid | 21-23°C | 12-15 days a month | Autumn and early winter; November about 312 mm |
| Tbilisi | 30-34°C, heat waves to 38-42°C | 19-20°C | 5-8 days in July and August | May, about 15 days with some rain |
| Kakheti (Telavi, Lopota) | 28-32°C | about 19-20°C | 5-8 days in July and August | May, about 16 rain days |
| Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) | 20-23°C | about 12°C | Afternoon cloud over the peaks | May and June; 19 days with some rain in May |
Adjara mountains vs the Batumi coast
Batumi is the warmest base at night and the wettest in this guide. It gets about 2,435 mm of rain a year, most of it in autumn and early winter, with November the wettest month (about 312 mm) and May the driest (about 84 mm). July and August nights stay at 21-23°C, and humid.

What the coast has is the sea: about 16°C in May, 25°C in July and 27°C in August (Travel Batumi). September rain on the coast mostly comes at night or in short bursts by day (Travel Batumi, September). Spring and autumn days on the coast are 3-6°C warmer than at Tago: 18-21°C in April and 21-24°C in October, which makes Batumi the easier base for an April or late-October retreat that wants to stay outdoors.
Tbilisi: hot July and August, mild autumn
Tbilisi's hot season runs from early June to mid-September, with July the hottest month at an average high of about 31°C (WeatherSpark) and heat waves of 38-42°C at the peaks. The UV index reaches 10 in July (weather2travel). Rain is rare in summer (5-8 days in July and August) and the city gets only about 510 mm a year.
For a retreat, that makes the city itself a spring and autumn base: October days of 18-21°C with nights of about 9°C are pleasant for outdoor sessions, while July afternoons are not. The hills above it are cooler: at Kiketi Farm, at about 1,150 m, July days reach 25-29°C with nights of about 16°C, close to ours, with fewer rain days (about 10 in July).
Kakheti: wine country, hot summers
The wine valley is as hot as Tbilisi in midsummer. At Telavi, summer days reach about 28-31°C, and August, the warmest month, averages 27.6°C by day and 18.2°C at night (amindia, Telavi). Down in the valley it is hotter still. At Lopota Lake, at 538 m, July and August days reach 29-33°C. Like the Adjara mountains, Kakheti's wettest month is May (about 16 rain days at Telavi). For an outdoor retreat, Kakheti suits May-June and September-October.
Kazbegi: cooler still, but a short season
Kazbegi is the high-mountain alternative in the east. At Stepantsminda July days reach 20-23°C with nights of about 12°C and October nights of about 2°C; snow lies on the ground most days from December to April. May and June are the wettest months, with 19 days with some rain in May (weather2travel, Kazbegi), and afternoon cloud builds over the peaks in summer.

For the venue side of this comparison, read Adjara vs Kakheti vs Kazbegi for a retreat and our list of retreat venues in Georgia.
Which day trips from the camp depend on the weather?
The two high-mountain trips, Green Lake and the Goderdzi pass, depend on the season and on the morning sky. Both are separate trips of about 40 km by road from the camp, not stops on the way from Batumi.
Green Lake sits at about 2,060 m, 39.9 km from the camp by road through Khulo and over the Goderdzi road. Snow lies around the lake until May; from June to October a normal car reaches it. Up there, June days are only about 17°C, July nights about 8°C and October nights around 0°C, so bring a warm layer even on a hot day in the valley. Our Green Lake guide has the full route.
The Goderdzi pass, at 2,027 m, is 38.8 km from the camp. Rhododendrons flower on its slopes in June and July, and fog builds through the day, so go in the morning. July nights at the pass are about 9°C. Like Georgia's other high passes it closes in winter snow: the last closures came on 20 November 2023, 28 November 2024 and 13 December 2025, and it reopened on 27 April 2026. Through the 2026 season the road over the pass is open without restrictions, and The Georgian Guide road status page shows the current state.
What should retreat guests pack, month by month?
Pack for two climates in one day: warm afternoons and cold nights. Roughly, the air gets about 6°C colder for every 1,000 m you climb (The Georgian Guide packing list), so the ridge at 1,200 m is cooler than Batumi all season and the 2,000 m passes colder again.
- Every month: a rain jacket, layers, shoes with grip for wet grass and trails, a warm hat for the evenings, a headlamp, a swimsuit for the sauna and the cold plunge. Yoga mats, blocks and blankets are provided.
- April and October: a down jacket or thick fleece, warm socks and thermal layers for nights of 2-8°C. Tents are heated with a wood stove or electric heater; there is no air conditioning, and none is needed.
- May and September: a fleece for mornings and evenings (nights 6-13°C) and something waterproof for the showers.
- June to August: sun hat, sunscreen and light clothes for 24-28°C days, plus a long sleeve and a fleece for the sunrise class and the campfire.
- For a Green Lake or Goderdzi day: a warm layer and a windproof, whatever the month: it is about 6°C colder up there than at the camp, and October nights at the lake are around 0°C.
Is the road open in spring and autumn, and how do you get there?
The road from Batumi to Khulo is asphalt and open all year, and the camp's season (April to October) sits inside the months the mountain roads are reliable. The snow-prone Goderdzi pass lies beyond Khulo and is not on the way to Tago.

- By car: 92 km from Batumi's old bus station, about 2 hours. Fill up, take cash and visit the pharmacy in Khulo: fuel, an ATM and a pharmacy sit in Khulo, about 6.5 km before the camp.
- The last stretch: from Khulo a 4x4 taxi takes 30-35 minutes and costs 75 GEL per car for up to 4 people. Groups in a minibus come in by the Skhalta valley road from the Zamleti turn-off, about 94 km and 2 hours from Batumi.
- By marshrutka: from the old Batumi bus station to Khulo every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 20:00, about 2 h 30 min, about 10 GEL; then the 4x4 taxi up.
- Private transfer: a 4x4 for up to 4 people costs 265 GEL from Batumi and 465 GEL from Kutaisi, one way. For a group, we pool arrivals from Batumi, Kutaisi or Tbilisi into shared cars or a minibus.
- Signal: the camp has Starlink Wi-Fi at about 300 Mbps, good enough for a video call with a teacher abroad; on the phone, Magti has the best coverage, so buy a Magti SIM in Batumi.
The Khulo cable car is closed. Every option, with today's prices, is on our getting here page.
When should you book a retreat date, and what does it cost by month?
Book June to September dates 6 to 12 months ahead: that is how far ahead most organisers plan. September and October are our quietest months, so autumn dates are the easiest to get, and October costs about half of July.

Questions people ask
What is the best month for an outdoor yoga retreat in the Adjara mountains?
July and August, with late June and the first half of September close behind. At 1,200 m days reach 24-28°C in July, nights stay around 15-17°C, and late July and August have the clearest skies and the fewest rain days of the season (about 11 in August). May and October work too, with more sessions in the heated dome.
Is it cold at night in the tents, even in summer?
Nights are cool in every month: about 15-17°C in July and August, 10-13°C in September, 5-8°C in October and 2-4°C in April. The tents are heated with a wood stove or an electric heater, and there is no air conditioning. Bring a fleece and a warm hat for the campfire and the walk to the sauna.
Will it rain during our retreat?
Probably on one or two days of a week. Rain falls on 11 to 16 days a month from April to October, and the daily chance of a wet day is about 23-28% in summer and up to 37% in October. Both practice spaces are covered, so plan a rainy-day version of the programme rather than move the dates.
Which weather forecast should we trust for Glamping Tago?
Use any app for the general picture, but read it as a rough guide. Apps show Khulo town in the valley rather than the ridge, and mountain weather changes several times a day. Message us the day before: we see what is coming over the valley.
Is Tbilisi or Kakheti too hot for a retreat in July?
For outdoor sessions, often yes. Tbilisi days reach 30-34°C in July and August with heat waves of 38-42°C, and Kakheti reaches 28-33°C; the UV index in Tbilisi hits 10 in July. Hold a summer retreat in the mountains and use Tbilisi and Kakheti in May-June or September-October.
How does Batumi compare with the mountains for a retreat?
Batumi has the sea (about 25-27°C in July and August) and warmer spring and autumn days, but warm, humid nights of 21-23°C in summer and about 2,435 mm of rain a year, the most in autumn and early winter. The mountains of Adjara are cooler by day and night and drier than the coast.
What time should a sunrise yoga class start in summer?
Sunrise in Khulo is between 5:35 and 6:05 from June to the end of July, and sunset comes after 20:30 until late July. A class from about 6:30 and a sunset session from about 19:30 fit June to August; in October sunrise moves past 7:00 and sunset to about 18:00.
Can you hold a retreat in the Adjara mountains in winter?
Not at Glamping Tago: the camp is open from 1 April to the end of October. From December to March snow lies on the ground most days, January nights drop to about -7°C, and the Goderdzi pass closes in snow from late November or December to late April. For a winter retreat, a year-round hotel lower down, near Batumi or Tbilisi, is the practical choice.
Do we need to bring our own yoga mats?
No. Mats, blocks and blankets are provided, along with a sound system indoors and out. The outdoor platform holds 50 or more on mats and the indoor dome has a wood stove for cold mornings.
