What does it cost to bring an artist to a mountain venue?
Expect to pay for the trip on top of the looks: Batumi make-up artists charge 50 to 1,000 GEL to come up to a venue 2 hours away, and a hair stylist 500 to 700 GEL. Only @grebenchuk_stylist and @zhukova.makeup include the trip in their price, and our partner team includes it in the 400 GEL bride package.
The road from Batumi follows the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe highway up the Adjaristsqali valley through Khulo: 92 km, about 2 hours by car, and the last 8.9 km to the camp is a mountain road for 4x4 cars and minibuses. A private 4x4 from Batumi costs 265 GEL per car (up to 4 people) each way, and a 4x4 taxi from Khulo 75 GEL, 30-35 minutes (how to get to Glamping Tago).
Public transport does not work for a wedding morning. The first marshrutka leaves Batumi bus station for Khulo at 08:00 and takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, so an artist on it reaches the camp after 11:00, too late for a 16:00 ceremony with six people in the chair.
That leaves two good options:
- The artists come up the day before and sleep at the camp. Every bed on the ridge belongs to your group, so count them into your tent plan.

Should the bride get ready in a Batumi salon and drive up?
Only for a very small, late ceremony. A salon look done at 10:00 has to survive a 2-hour drive, a 4x4 road and the ceremony, and a bridal make-up is planned to hold 4 to 6 hours before it needs touch-ups. Nobody fixes it after you leave the salon.
Batumi salons also open late for a wedding morning: LAKmousse opens at 10:00, like most studios in the city, so an earlier start has to be agreed with the artist in advance. For a mountain wedding, book an artist who comes to you and stays until the ceremony.
How early should you book, and when is the trial?
Book the artists as soon as the venue and date are fixed: for a June to September date, 6 to 12 months ahead. That is also how far ahead the high season at Glamping Tago books, and the artists who work in pairs fill first. Do the trial 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.
Most artists hold a date only once an agreement is signed and a deposit is paid, so book first and do the trial later. Weddywood, a Russian-language wedding catalogue, advises booking a Batumi stylist 4 to 6 months ahead and doing the trial 1 to 2 months before, once the dress and accessories are chosen.
A trial in Batumi costs about 130 to 150 GEL per service: LAKmousse charges 130 GEL for a trial make-up and Elena Makarova 150 GEL for a hairstyle trial. A hair and make-up trial takes 2 to 3 hours.
Step by step:
- 9-12 months before: fix the venue and date, then message 3-4 artists with the date, the venue, the number of people and the ceremony time.
- Compare totals: looks for everyone + travel there and back + an early start + a bed if needed.
- Sign and pay the deposit with the one you choose. If you need a second artist for the bridesmaids, book them together.
- 6-8 weeks before: do the trial, wearing a top with the neckline of the dress and the veil or hair accessories. Time it, photograph it outdoors in daylight, and note the products for a touch-up kit.
- 30 days before: send the artists the timeline of the morning. At Glamping Tago the timeline is due 30 days before anyway.
- The week before: confirm the car, the start time and who sits first.
How do you time the wedding morning at a venue 2 hours from Batumi?
For a 16:00 ceremony with the bride, three bridesmaids and two mothers, two artists (one make-up, one hair) start at 10:00 and finish at 15:00. That is 12 services at 45 to 60 minutes each, plus 2 to 2.5 hours for the bride. One artist alone would need 9 hours or more, so book a pair.
The rules artists work by: the bride sits in the middle of the morning, never last; hair goes before make-up so the hairspray does not settle on the foundation; everyone is finished an hour before the ceremony for the dress and portraits.

Rain is common: 13 to 23 days with some rain a month in the wedding season. Batumi itself has 70-80% relative humidity.

- Eyes: waterproof liner and mascara for wind and tears.
- Lips: matte lipstick rather than gloss: wind sticks hair to gloss.
- Sun: SPF under the make-up for an outdoor ceremony.
- Hair: a low textured bun, a braid or a secured half-up style with cross-pinning holds in wind and rain; loose blow-outs drop fastest. Anchor the veil at several points.
- Touch-ups: a bridal look holds 4 to 6 hours, so ask the artist to stay until after the ceremony photos, or leave a lipstick, powder and pins with someone.
Is Batumi cheaper than Tbilisi or an agency package?
Batumi independent artists cost about the same as Tbilisi salons, and less than a planner's package. The difference is the trip: Tbilisi prices are for a chair in Tbilisi, not for a venue in the Adjara mountains.
