Mountain Wedding Venues in Georgia (the Country), 2026: Kazbegi, Gudauri, Adjara and Kakheti Compared

The Caucasus is a beautiful place to get married, but most venue lists only cover Kazbegi and Kakheti. This guide compares the four mountain regions of Georgia (the country), with beds, guest numbers, drive times and what a weekend really costs.

Why couples choose a mountain wedding in the Caucasus

Georgia (the country, not the US state) has become one of the easiest places in the world for two foreigners to get married: registration is free, takes one visit to a Public Service Hall, and the certificate is recognised abroad with an apostille. Add a mountain backdrop, a supra-style feast and prices that are a fraction of Western Europe, and a small destination wedding here makes sense even for couples with no family ties to the country.

The problem is choosing the mountains. Most lists you will find online rank hotels around Kazbegi and Gudauri, or wineries in Kakheti, because that is where the wedding agencies work. The Adjara mountains above Batumi, in the south-west, hardly appear at all. This guide puts all four regions side by side and is written by a venue in one of them, Glamping Tago, so read our own entry with that in mind. We have kept the competitor numbers as their own pages state them.

The four mountain regions at a glance

Drive times are for a car in good conditions. The last stretch to any real mountain venue is a mountain road, and in Adjara the venues will usually collect you in 4x4 cars from the nearest town.

Kazbegi and Gudauri: the postcard mountains

This is the Georgian Military Highway north of Tbilisi, with Mount Kazbek (5,054 m) and the Gergeti Trinity Church on every wedding photographer's list.

• Rooms Hotel Kazbegi (Stepantsminda, about 1,750 m). The most cited venue in the country: a design hotel with a terrace facing Kazbek, a restaurant for around 85 seated guests and more than 150 beds. Lotus Wedding lists ceremonies there from about 3,400 USD in its 2026 ranking, hotel rooms not included.
• Monte Gudauri (Gudauri, about 2,200 m). Hotel and events space with room for 50-60 guests; ceremonies from about 1,380 USD according to the same ranking.
• Alpine Lounge, Gudauri Lodge, Porta Caucasia Kazbegi. Smaller hotels in the same two villages, often used for weddings of 30-60 with the ceremony on a terrace or a nearby meadow.

Honest pros and cons: the scenery is the most dramatic in Georgia and the road from Tbilisi is good in summer. Against that, everything is hotel-style, meaning one evening in a restaurant rather than a weekend on a private property, and at 2,000 m and above the weather turns fast even in July. Every agency page tells you to have a Plan B indoors. The Gudauri hotels are also ski resorts, so summer is their quiet season and prices reflect that.

The Adjara mountains: from Batumi, not Tbilisi

Adjara is the region around Batumi on the Black Sea. Its mountains start an hour inland and rise to the Goderdzi Pass at 2,025 m. The villages of Keda and Khulo municipalities sit between them, with alpine meadows above and a warm, wet, green valley below. Weddings here are reached from Batumi (an international airport, plus Kutaisi two hours away), which is why the Tbilisi-based agencies rarely list them.

• Glamping Tago (Village Tago, Khulo, about 2 hours from Batumi). This is us. You buy out the whole property for the weekend: twelve Lotus Belle tents and a nine-bed dome sleep up to 33 people right on the ridge, and the family guesthouses in the village a few minutes below take the rest, so weddings of up to 100 guests still have a bed for everyone. Vows happen in the forest clearing, on the valley overlook or under the sailcloth yoga shala; the feast is in the open wedding tent on the ridge (it seats 100) or, for smaller groups, in the yurt restaurant (it seats 24 at the long table, 32 with extra tables). The kitchen is fully vegetarian; for a meat course we arrange dinner at a village guesthouse. Sauna and campfire in the evenings; Jonas and Lisa, who run the venue, coordinate the day itself. Season 1 April to the end of October.
• Eco House Merisi (Keda, about an hour from Batumi). Glass cottages in the forest with around 54 beds and seated dinners for about 60 guests, one of the few Adjara venues where most of the party sleeps on the property.
• Chateau Milisi (Keda). A small hotel and winery in the Acharistskali gorge that lists weddings for up to 120 guests from about 2,900 USD.
• Chateau Iveri (Keda). A boutique hotel and vineyard for intimate weddings of 15-20 guests.
• Castello Mare and the Batumi coast hotels (Tsikhisdziri, Chakvi). Not mountain venues, but if half of your guests want a sea view and half want the hills, the coast is 1-2 hours from any of the venues above.

Honest pros and cons: this is the only region where a tent wedding weekend with everyone on site is possible, it is the greenest of the four, and it is the cheapest to reach from Europe via Batumi or Kutaisi. Against that, the roads are slower than the Military Highway, the last kilometres need a 4x4, and a mountain microclimate means warm days and genuinely cold nights, even in August. Bring layers and a rain plan (ours is the wedding tent and the yurt).

Kakheti and Borjomi: vineyards and spa hotels

• Lopota Lake Resort and Spa, Kvareli Lake Resort (Kakheti, 2 hours from Tbilisi). Large lake-side resorts with several restaurants and hundreds of rooms. The safe choice for 150-250 guests who all want a hotel room.
• Tsinandali Estate (Radisson Collection), Vazisubani Estate, Giuaani Winery. Historic wine estates with gardens, chapels and cellars; ceremonies among the vines, receptions of 80-200.
• Crowne Plaza Borjomi and the Bakuriani hotels. Forested spa resort towns south-west of Tbilisi, 900-1,700 m, with conference-hotel capacity and real winter access (Bakuriani is a ski resort, so a snow wedding is realistic from December to March).

Honest pros and cons: the easiest logistics in the country and the largest capacities. They are foothills rather than high mountains, and the atmosphere is a hotel or an estate, not a private camp.

Which venue for which guest count

• 20-40 guests: any of the boutique options works. In Adjara, Glamping Tago's ridge alone sleeps 33, so a party of 30 has the whole camp to itself with no village beds needed. In Kazbegi, the smaller lodges; in Kakheti, a winery.
• 40-100 guests: Rooms Kazbegi, Eco House Merisi, Chateau Milisi and Glamping Tago with the village guesthouses. This is the range where "how many actually sleep on site" matters most, so ask every venue for the bed count, not the seated capacity.
• 100 or more: Kakheti lake resorts, Castello Mare on the coast, the big Borjomi and Gudauri hotels.

What a weekend mountain wedding costs in 2026

Numbers below are indicative and each venue quotes on request. For Glamping Tago we use our published 2026 rates so you can do the arithmetic yourself.

• Venue and beds. A whole-property buyout at Glamping Tago is 2,316-3,584 GEL per night depending on the month (October to June and September; July and August are higher, ask for the exact figure), plus a 2,000 GEL privatisation fee for an event. Village guesthouse beds are booked separately. Kazbegi hotels sell rooms individually and add a ceremony fee: 1,380-3,400 USD in Lotus Wedding's 2026 list.
• Food. Full board at Glamping Tago is 100 GEL per person per day; wedding feast packages run from 85 GEL (Georgian supra, vegetarian) to 225 GEL per person (signature buffet). Agencies quote wedding dinners in Georgia at roughly 55-100 USD per person.
• Ceremony extras. Our own arch is 500 GEL and local flowers 350 GEL; decoration, music and a photographer are quoted per wedding. Photographers in Georgia start around 500 USD per day.
• Transport. A private 4x4 from Batumi to Tago is 265 GEL per car (up to 4 people) each way, and we pool arrivals from Batumi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi into shared cars for groups.

Worked example, 60 guests, two nights at Glamping Tago in June 2026: buyout 2 x 3,584 GEL, privatisation 2,000 GEL, full board 60 x 2 x 100 GEL, one feast upgrade to the 125 GEL buffet for 60 people, village beds for 27 guests and transfers from Batumi. That lands somewhere around 25,000-30,000 GEL (roughly 9,000-11,000 USD) for the whole weekend, before flowers, music and photography. A comparable two-day hotel wedding in Kazbegi for 60 people is usually quoted above that once the rooms are added.

Weather month by month

• April and May: the valleys are green and wet. In the Adjara mountains our season opens on 1 April, but May is the wettest month of the year in Batumi and rain reaches the hills too. Kazbegi still has snow on the passes in April.
• June: warm days, long evenings, meadows in flower. Cold nights above 1,500 m everywhere.
• July and August: the most reliable weather in every region and the busiest. In Adjara the days are hot in the valley and pleasant on the ridge; in Gudauri afternoon storms are common.
• September: many locals' favourite month. Stable, clear, harvest time in Kakheti, and prices at most venues drop from the summer peak.
• October: golden forests and cool nights; the Adjara venues close at the end of the month. Kazbegi can see its first snow.
• November to March: only the hotel regions (Gudauri, Bakuriani, Borjomi) host winter weddings; the Adjara camps are closed.

Whatever the month, plan the ceremony for the morning or late afternoon and keep an indoor or tented fallback. Mountain weather changes faster than any forecast.

Getting legally married in Georgia as a foreigner

• Marriages are registered at a Public Service Hall (also called the House of Justice). There are branches in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi, so a couple marrying in Adjara can register in Batumi on the way up.
• You need valid passports, two witnesses with ID, and a document showing you are free to marry (a certificate of no impediment or its equivalent from your country), translated and, where required, apostilled or legalised. Requirements vary by nationality, so check the Public Service Hall's list for yours.
• Registration itself is free and can often be done the same day; a ceremony-style registration with a registrar at your venue is possible for a fee.
• The Georgian certificate is apostilled locally so it is recognised at home. Budget a few days for that if you fly straight back.
• Rules do change. Some agencies report new documentation requirements for foreigners in 2026, so confirm the current list with the Public Service Hall or a local planner before you travel.

How to choose

If your guests fly into Tbilisi and you want the famous view, choose Kazbegi. If you want the easiest logistics and a large party, choose Kakheti. If you want a weekend where everyone stays together, a tent under the stars and a green, quiet mountain village, choose the Adjara mountains and fly into Batumi or Kutaisi. Whichever region you pick, ask three questions before you sign: how many beds are on the property, what happens if it rains, and what is included in the price per person. The answers separate a good mountain wedding from a stressful one.
