Mountain Wedding Venues in Georgia (the Country), 2026: Kazbegi, Gudauri, Adjara and Kakheti Compared

Georgia the country has four mountain wedding regions, and only one of them lets you buy out a whole property so every guest sleeps in the same place. Here are the venues compared on beds, seated capacity, real 2026 prices, drive times, season and the legal steps, including the new insurance rule every guest now needs.

Because Georgia (the country, not the US state) is one of the easiest places in the world for two foreigners to marry, and it happens to have the Caucasus behind it. Registration at a Public Service Hall is free, it needs one visit, two witnesses and your passports, and there is no residency requirement and no waiting period.

Then there is the arithmetic. Eventive puts a wedding for 2 to 20 guests at 1,500 to 4,000 USD, 20 to 50 guests at 4,000 to 10,000 USD and 50 to 100 guests at 10,000 to 25,000 USD, including the party. Matilda Events gives 6,000 to 10,000 EUR for 15 to 25 guests and 12,000 to 22,000 EUR for 40 to 60. Those are whole-wedding numbers, not venue rental.

The hard part is choosing the mountains. Most lists rank hotels around Kazbegi and Gudauri or wineries in Kakheti, because that is where the Tbilisi wedding agencies work. The Adjara mountains above Batumi barely appear, and Kakheti gets called mountains when its venues sit between 477 and 700 m. This guide puts the four regions side by side with beds, seated capacity, drive times and real prices. It is written by one of the venues in it, Glamping Tago. Every other venue's figures below are its own published numbers, linked where they are stated.

Glamping is a very specific kind of wedding venue. It is right for a couple who want the whole place to themselves for a weekend, with every guest sleeping on site in the mountains, and wrong for a couple who want a ballroom, a coach to the door or a winter date. These are the differences that decide it:

Kazbegi and Gudauri give you the highest mountains and the easiest Tbilisi logistics, the Adjara mountains are the only region where you can buy out a whole property and keep everyone together, Kakheti is the large-capacity vineyard option in the foothills, and Borjomi with Bakuriani is the region that can run a wedding in February.

Every distance is the real road distance. Drive times on these mountain roads run longer than any map app promises, so the times in each section are the local ones.

The venues this guide compares, with what each is actually for:

• Glamping Tago, Village Tago, Khulo (Adjara): the whole-property buyout, up to 100 guests with a bed for every one of them.
• Rooms Kazbegi, Stepantsminda: the Mount Kazbek terrace, 85 seated.
• Eco House Merisi, Keda (Adjara): glass cottages for 50, the strongest small venue in the region.
• Lopota Lake Resort and Kvareli Lake Resort, Kakheti: 200 to 400 guests in hotel rooms.
• Tsinandali Estate, Kakheti: an open-air amphitheatre for up to 700, the biggest in the country.
• Crowne Plaza Borjomi and Kokhta Bakuriani: the winter answer.
• Hotel Chateau Iveri, Vaio Resort, Hill Inn, Ati Ambavi: 15 to 40 guests.

A hotel wedding under the most famous mountain in the country, with the shortest transfer from Tbilisi and the highest chance that the road closes. This is the Georgian Military Highway: Mount Kazbek at 5,054 m, the Gergeti Trinity Church on the ridge above Stepantsminda, and 155 km of asphalt from Tbilisi over the Jvari Pass at 2,379 m.

Everything here is hotel-shaped. You book rooms, you get one restaurant or one hall for the evening, and the property keeps its other guests. Nobody in Kazbegi or Gudauri sells you the whole place for a weekend.

Rooms Kazbegi

Where: Stepantsminda, 1,740 m. Drive from Tbilisi: 155 km, 3 to 3.5 hours. Seated capacity: 85. Event space: 2 event rooms and 360 m2 in total, plus the terrace. Beds: 143 rooms and 286 beds on the national tourism register; Lotus Wedding counts 156. Price from: 3,400 USD for the ceremony as Lotus sells it, rooms not included. Season: all year. Good for: the photograph, and putting 100 guests to bed in one building. Watch out for: 2026 guests report slow and indifferent restaurant service, and 85 seated is the ceiling whatever the room count suggests.

Ati Ambavi, Gudauri

Where: Gudauri, about 2,196 m. Drive from Tbilisi: 122 km, 2 to 2.5 hours. Capacity: 10 rooms, so a party of 20 to 25 with everyone under one roof. Season: all year. Good for: a small wedding where nobody needs a transfer on the day, because the ceremony, the dinner and the beds are in the same building. Watch out for: reception is unstaffed after midnight.

Gudauri Lodge

Where: Gudauri. Drive from Tbilisi: 122 km, 2 to 2.5 hours. Good for: the overflow beds a boutique hotel cannot give you, in the same village as the ceremony. Watch out for: it is a big ski hotel in its low season in summer, and the rooms have no blackout curtains.

Monte Hotel, Gudauri

Where: Gudauri, 2,200 m. Capacity: 17 rooms, 50 to 60 guests, ceremony from 1,380 USD on the Lotus ranking. Named because every agency list includes it, not recommended: 2026 guests report a rude reception, no sound insulation between rooms, rooms that stay hot with no fan, and a bar that shuts at 22:00 with your own drinks not allowed. A bar that closes at ten is a problem for a wedding.

Hotel Porta Caucasia Kazbegi

Where: 2 Tergdaleulebi Street, Stepantsminda. Capacity: a 4-star often used to house the guests who do not fit at Rooms. Named, not recommended: August 2026 guests report a five-night stay with the room never cleaned, guests buying their own toilet paper, unfriendly staff and very poor wifi. Alpine Lounge at 8 Pitskhelauri Street, also in Stepantsminda, is the other option at 4.4 from 283 reviews.

Two more numbers for this region. An elopement for two in Kazbegi starts at 2,600 USD with planning, a day coordinator, transport from the hotel, passport translation and notarisation, witnesses, the registrar with an English translator, the certificate, hair and make-up, a bouquet and a five-hour photographer. And Eventive adds 15 to 25 per cent to a high-altitude wedding for equipment delivery and moving guests three hours from the capital. Matilda Events puts venue rental alone at 1,000 to 3,500 EUR around Kazbegi.

A whole property to yourselves, reached from the Black Sea coast rather than the capital. Adjara's mountains start an hour inland from Batumi and rise to the Goderdzi Pass at 2,025 m, and the region is served by Batumi 87 km away and Kutaisi airport 141 km away, not by Tbilisi 8 hours off.

This is the only one of the four regions where a couple can buy out an entire venue for a weekend, and the only one where the last kilometres need a 4x4. Two of the venues below sit on the main Batumi to Khulo road; the rest are up side valleys that come back the same way, so plan them as separate drives, not as stops.

Glamping Tago

Where: the ridge above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, 1,200 m. Drive from Batumi: 87 km, about 2 hours, the last 8.9 km from Khulo on a 4x4 road, 20 to 35 minutes. Guests: up to 100, with a bed for every one. Beds: 33 on site, 12 Lotus Belle tents for two and a 9-bed dome dormitory, plus 64 beds in 27 rooms across seven family guesthouses in the village a few minutes below. Price from: 3,258 GEL a night for the whole camp in April, 6,035 in July and August. Season: 1 April to the end of October, wedding season May to mid-October. Good for: a two-night wedding weekend where the whole group stays together and the place is closed to everyone else. Watch out for: coaches cannot reach us, the kitchen is vegetarian, and the camp closes for the winter.

The practical side. The getting-ready room is the heated yoga dome, 38 m2, free on the wedding day. The sauna takes 15 people every evening and the fire circle seats 35 with the firewood included. Starlink wifi runs at about 300 Mbps for your vendors and a live stream. Order the cake in Batumi and send us its size: our freezer door is 60 by 50 cm. Children under 6 eat free and 6 to 12 pay half, an extra mattress in a tent is 50 GEL (30 for a child), and dogs are welcome for a 15 GEL cleaning fee. The village mosque calls to prayer mostly on Fridays, and we help you time the ceremony around it. Site visits happen at weekends, or we walk you round on a live video call.

This is us, so here are the numbers a planner asks for. The ceremony happens on the meadow facing the mountains with benches for up to 100 and an arch our team builds, or in the forest clearing, or at Otsinari lake 30 minutes away. Dinner is in a sailcloth event tent of 15.2 by 9.7 m, about 150 m2, on its own wooden deck, whose sides close when it rains. Yurtalicious, our yurt restaurant, seats 36 inside and 20 outside and is both the rain plan and the place the party moves to at midnight. Our kitchen is fully vegetarian, which is the thing to decide early. The Mountain Supra for up to 100 guests is 85 GEL a head, the Euro-Georgian buffet 125 and the five-course signature menu 215 from 30 guests. Meat comes as a BBQ live station at 45 GEL a head, cooked for the whole group rather than part of it, or meat khinkali on the supra at 15. Corkage on your own wine or spirits is 15 GEL a bottle and we collect and chill drinks bought in Batumi.

Eco House Merisi

Where: the Merisi valley above Keda, at about 800 m. Drive from Batumi: 48 km, about 1 hour 10. Guests: up to 50 for the wedding, 60 for a ceremony or dinner, in a restaurant hall for 50 plus two open terraces. Beds: 12 cottages and 3 villas, up to 54 guests. Ceremony spots: an open-air platform of about 50 m2 on the cliff edge and a covered backup venue of about 100 m2. Price: quoted individually, including a full hotel buyout. Season: all year. Good for: the best-reviewed venue in the Adjara mountains, 4.8 from more than 1,500 guests, with not a single review below four stars in the last 28, and the only one besides us where most of the party sleeps on the property. Watch out for: children under 12 are not allowed in the Nino cottages, and a cottage takes 100 per cent prepayment that is not refunded if you cancel. Guests who eat only in the restaurant are the ones who rate it below five stars.

Merisi is not a stop on the way to Khulo. Adding it to a Batumi to Tago drive costs 23.3 km and 38 minutes, because the valley climbs away from the main road above Keda and comes back the same way.

Hotel Chateau Iveri

Where: Varjanisi in the Acharistskali gorge, about 500 m. Drive from Batumi: 46 km, about 1 hour. Guests: 15 to 20, ceremony from 1,470 USD on the Lotus ranking. Beds: 7 designer rooms. Good for: an intimate wedding with the family's own Tsolikauri and Chkhaveri from qvevri, and the one Adjara venue genuinely on the road a wedding convoy already drives: 1 km and 5 minutes off the line to Khulo. Watch out for: guests praise the rooms more than the restaurant.

Vaio Resort

Where: Vaio, Keda. Drive from Batumi: 40.5 km, about 55 minutes, and only 1.7 km off the road to Khulo. Good for: 4.9 from 140 guests with the food and the hosts singled out, which makes it the place to put a wedding party rather than a banquet. Watch out for: it is small, so the dinner has to be small too.

Hill Inn Luxury Glamping and Treehouses

Where: above Dandalo, Keda, 725 m. Drive from Batumi: 59 km, about 1 hour 20. Good for: tents and tree houses with an amphitheatre for a bonfire, a spa zone in the woods with a sauna and an outdoor bath, an outdoor pool, a BBQ area and a small home cinema, for a group that wants glamping closer to the coast than we are. Watch out for: a February 2026 guest got no answer on two booking numbers, and it is 8.3 km and 30 minutes off the Tago road, so it is a separate trip.

Hotel Ambassadori Goderdzi

Where: the Goderdzi ski resort, 2,027 m, at the top of the pass. Drive from Batumi: 106 km, about 2 hours. Beds: 122 rooms and suites. Season: all year, and it is the only four-season hotel in the Adjara mountains. Good for: the one way to hold a winter wedding on this side of the country, with a spa, two restaurants and a wedding service, and ski-to-door access to the Goderdzi lifts. Watch out for: the pass road closes in snow; 2026 guests rate the food below other mountain resorts and one reports an infection after using the jacuzzi; and Goderdzi is 25.8 km beyond Khulo, so adding it to a Batumi to Tago drive costs 53 km and just over an hour.

Chateau Milisi

Where: a side valley below Keda. Drive from Batumi: 32 km, about 50 minutes, and 12.9 km off the Tago road. Capacity: 32 rooms and a maximum of 120 guests, ceremony from 2,900 USD on the Lotus ranking, which makes it the largest seated capacity in the Adjara mountains. Named, not recommended: August 2026 guests report insects in the room and on the breakfast food, a marked carpet and a weak breakfast, and that the complex is still under construction through the day. It rates 4.3, exactly on the line.

Castello Mare, for the guests who want the sea

Where: the cliff at Tsikhisdziri, 25 km and about 30 minutes north of Batumi. Beds: 110 rooms. Not a mountain venue at all, and it is here because half of every guest list wants a beach: the coast is one to two hours from any Adjara mountain venue, so a wedding above Batumi and a second night by the sea is an easy programme. Watch out for: guests report being turned back at the beach checkpoint, no answer on the reception line and slow check-in.

The largest capacities in the country, the easiest logistics and the lowest altitude: these are foothills, not mountains. Measured from Tbilisi on the road, Giuaani in Manavi sits at 600 m, 62 km out; Tsinandali at 104 km; Lopota at 477 m, 116 km and 2 hours 12; Vazisubani at 128 km; Kvareli Lake at 151 km. Not one of them is above 700 m. If a list sells you Kakheti as a mountain wedding, it is selling you vineyards with the Greater Caucasus on the horizon, which is a fine thing to want.

Lopota Lake Resort and Spa

Where: Napareuli, 477 m on a private lake. Drive from Tbilisi: 116 km, 2 hours 12. Capacity: 310 rooms across 16 buildings and 800 beds, up to 400 guests, ceremony from 3,250 USD on the Lotus ranking. Lopota prices its spaces one by one, which no other venue here does. Violet Weddings lists the 2026 rentals: the small pier from 755 USD, the large pier from 2,265 USD, the Oval Restaurant indoors from 3,375 USD, indoors with the terrace from 5,285 USD, the whole event hall from 5,660 USD, the second floor of Buera Chateau from 4,550 USD and the whole chateau from 13,250 USD. Venue rental only, catering on top. Good for: 200 guests and up who all want a hotel room, a winery, stables and a helipad.

Kvareli Lake Resort

Where: Kvareli, on a lake under the southern slopes of the Caucasus. Drive from Tbilisi: 151 km, about 2 hours 25. Capacity: 100 rooms, up to 200 guests, ceremony from 2,200 USD on the Lotus ranking, and several ceremony spots so the registry, the cocktail and the dinner can each have their own place. Watch out for: a 2026 wedding guest was stopped from playing Russian-language music and singing karaoke on the night, neither of which was in the contract, and the rooms in the Georgian building need work. Put the music, the timings and the drinks in writing.

Tsinandali Estate

Where: Tsinandali village, the 19th-century estate of Prince Alexander Chavchavadze. Drive from Tbilisi: 104 km, about 1 hour 55. Capacity: 124 rooms and suites, and the venues are published one by one: an open-air amphitheatre for up to 700 guests, a ballroom, a Lounge Room for 120, a historic room for 60 and the Saperavi Room for 30. Lotus sells it for up to 1,200 guests without accommodation, ceremony from 1,800 USD. The largest wedding capacity in this guide, and the best-rated large venue in the country at 4.9 from more than 3,800 guests.

Giuaani Winery

Where: Manavi, Sagarejo district, 600 m. Drive from Tbilisi: 62 km, about 55 minutes, the shortest transfer in this guide. A working winery since 1894 with a boutique hotel, restaurant, pool and its own events service. Good for: a Kakheti wedding that is an hour from the airport rather than three. Matilda Events puts Kakheti vineyard venue rental at 1,500 to 4,000 EUR.

Vazisubani Estate

Where: Vazisubani, the 19th-century estate built by Prince Sulkhan Chavchavadze, now a hotel and winery. Drive from Tbilisi: 128 km. Capacity: 19 rooms sleeping up to 40, maximum 200 guests, ceremony from 1,580 USD on the Lotus ranking, with the wine cellar, the restaurant and a terrace as the rain plan. Named, not recommended: 2026 one-star reviews describe dinner served out of order and half an order arriving after everyone else had finished, one of them from a guest at a wedding held there, and a service charge added to the wine tasting without warning.

The region that can run a wedding in any month, including February. Borjomi sits at about 850 m in a coniferous park 160 km from Tbilisi, and Bakuriani is a ski town at 1,700 m in the Trialeti mountains, 186 km from Tbilisi and 171 km from Kutaisi airport, which makes it the one mountain region with a real low-cost gateway.

Crowne Plaza Borjomi

Where: central Borjomi at about 850 m, a few minutes from the park entrance. Drive from Tbilisi: 162 km, about 2 hours 20. Capacity: 101 rooms and 300 beds, 4 conference halls, two restaurants and a 2,400 m2 spa, up to 500 guests, ceremony from 1,900 USD on the Lotus ranking. Season: all year. Good for: 200 to 500 guests in winter, which no other venue in this guide can do at that size. Watch out for: 2026 guests call the rooms dated and unmaintained for a five-star price, and the front desk and lobby restaurant the weakest part of the hotel.

Kokhta Bakuriani

Where: Kokhtis Dziri, Bakuriani, ski-in ski-out at about 1,700 m. Drive from Tbilisi: 186 km, about 2 hours 45; from Kutaisi airport 172 km, about 2 hours 30. Capacity: the Didveli room takes up to 100 people and the Kokhta room up to 50, with a projector, screen, direction signs, a portable stage, chairs and tables included; an AV technician and microphones are charged extra. These are the hotel's own meeting-room figures, so ask for the banquet layout before you count on 100. Season: all year, with the 2025-26 lifts running 20 December to 29 March and a 55 GEL day pass. Good for: a snow wedding with the ceremony at the top of a lift. Watch out for: 2026 guests report building work around the hotel, rough dusty roads through the town, weak sound insulation and no air conditioning, and they advise checking the bill.

Borjomi Palace Hotel and Spa

Where: central Borjomi, 164 rooms in a sanatorium building reconstructed in 2013, so it can take a large wedding. Named, not recommended: 2026 guests report rooms that have aged and are not air-conditioned, a prepaid massage that started half an hour late, and a bar that does not answer inside its own working hours. Crowne Plaza is the stronger choice in the same town.

Count the beds, not the chairs. A venue's seated capacity tells you whether dinner fits; the bed count tells you whether your guests have to drive home at midnight on a mountain road.

In the 40 to 100 band, where most destination weddings land, the bed question decides the day. Only two venues in the mountains answer it without splitting the party across three hotels: Glamping Tago, which sleeps 33 on the ridge and 64 more a few minutes below, and Eco House Merisi with up to 54.

Between about 10,000 and 35,000 GEL for a two-night weekend of 30 to 60 guests, depending on region, month and how much you decorate. Our own prices are below in full because we publish them; every other venue in this guide quotes each wedding individually, so what you see for them is the agency's published floor.

2026 prices

Worked example: 60 guests, two nights at Glamping Tago in June. Whole camp 2 x 5,041 = 10,082 GEL. Village rooms for the 27 guests who do not sleep on the ridge, about 12 rooms for two nights = 3,600. Mountain Supra for 60 = 5,100. Arrival snack 25 and reception appetizers 15 a head = 2,400. Breakfast for 60 = 1,920. BBQ live station = 2,700. Arch and flowers = 2,250. Transfers from Batumi and back in minibuses = about 3,300. Our coordination, if you want it = 2,000. That is about 33,300 GEL, roughly 12,700 USD at 2.62 GEL to the dollar, before photography, music and your own drinks. May, June, September and early October, and the answer is the same in all four regions. July and August give the most reliable weather and the highest prices, and the shoulder months give clear air, low rates and a real chance of rain.

The official regional figures set the frame. Adjara's mountainous sub-alpine zone runs 2 to 3 C from December to March and 17 to 21 C in summer, against 22 to 24 on the Adjara coast. Kakheti is around 0 C in winter and 23 to 25 in summer. That difference between the coast and the ridge above it is exactly why a wedding in the Adjara mountains needs warm layers in August.

Gudauri at 2,200 m is the coldest venue region in this guide. The monthly normals are +9 by day and 0 at night in May with 18 days of precipitation, +14 and +6 in June with 22, +17 and +8 in July with 18, +18 and +9 in August with 14, +13 and +4 in September with 15, and +7 and -1 in October with 11. June is the wettest month of the year up there, August the driest of the summer, and the gap from Tbilisi can reach 20 degrees on the same afternoon.

Yes, in two of the four regions. Bakuriani and Gudauri run all winter as ski resorts, Borjomi's spa hotels are open all year, and in the Adjara mountains exactly one hotel stays open: Hotel Ambassadori at the Goderdzi pass.

The 2025-26 lifts opened 20 December in Bakuriani and 27 December in Gudauri, and ran to 29 March in Bakuriani and 19 April in Gudauri. Mid-January to early March is the stretch with dependable snow. Lifts run 10:00 to 17:00, and a pass needs a physical 5 GEL Multicard: a QR code on a phone will not open the turnstile. A Gudauri day pass was 70 GEL that season against 55 in Bakuriani. Bakuriani sits lower at 1,700 m, opens earlier and suits families; Gudauri is higher, with cable cars reaching 3,276 m and colder nights.

Two things stop a winter wedding in Adjara. The Goderdzi pass at 2,025 m takes the heaviest snowfall in Georgia, from November into April, and it needs chains or a 4x4 when it is open at all; the Roads Department posts the live restriction and its hotline is +995 32 2 31 30 76. Read the category on the bulletin: the road can be shut to trucks and buses but open to cars with chains, or open only to four-wheel drive. And Glamping Tago is closed from November to March, with up to three metres of snow on the ridge.

Two foreigners can marry in Georgia with their passports, two witnesses and a joint application, and registration without ceremony services is free. No residency is required. What the Public Service Development Agency actually asks for is short:

• A joint written application from both people.
• Identity documents of both people and of two legally capable adult witnesses, who must attend.
• If either was married before, a document proving that marriage ended.
• From a foreign citizen, a document proving they are in Georgia on legal grounds.

Both must be 18 or older, and registration through a representative is not permitted. A foreign passport is accepted without a Georgian translation if it carries the personal data in Latin transliteration; any other document issued abroad must be apostilled or legalised and come with a notarised Georgian translation. A certificate of no impediment is not required. Georgian law defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, so a same-sex wedding here is symbolic only.

Two practical catches. The agency accepts translations only from translators on the Ministry of Justice list, not from any translation agency, and walk-in queues at the central Tbilisi and Batumi branches run two to four hours in the first half of the day. Book the slot online at psh.gov.ge and walk in with almost no wait, and do the translation before you fly. Yes, and this is new: since 1 January 2026 almost every foreign visitor needs health and accident insurance to enter the country. Government Decree No. 602, adopted on 26 December 2025, sets the insured sum at a minimum of 30,000 GEL in Article 4 and allows the policy to be shown on paper or on a phone, in Georgian or English, in Article 5.

It applies to all foreign citizens regardless of nationality or purpose, including visa-free travellers, and it is checked at airports and land borders. The cover has to run for every day of the stay, arrival and departure days included. Georgian insurers sell a compliant policy from 2 GEL a day, issued by email as a PDF.

This is an entry rule, not a marriage document: it does not go in your registration file. What it does mean is one more line in the invitation you send your guests, and one more thing to check for the older relatives who never buy travel insurance.

By car or minibus, in every case. There is no train and no flight to any of these regions, and only Kazbegi and Bakuriani have a marshrutka a guest could realistically use in wedding clothes.

Three things that catch wedding parties out. A big coach cannot reach Glamping Tago: the last stretch takes 4x4 cars and 15- to 17-seat minibuses only, and the usual answer is your own coach to Khulo and our minibuses from there. The Khulo cable car is closed for repair, so the last climb is always a 4x4. And there is no shared transport from Kazbegi to Tbilisi airport: the vans go from the small station in the centre of Stepantsminda, about 11 a day in summer, 20 GEL cash, and the last departures are cut out of season, so a guest with an evening flight needs a booked driver.

At a Public Service Hall, a Wedding House or a territorial office of the Public Service Development Agency, and if you skip the ceremony services it is free. Everything above free is a choice: a nicer hall, a registrar who travels to your venue, or an agency that handles the file for you.

For an Adjara wedding, the place is Batumi's Public Service Hall at 7 Sherif Khimshiashvili Street, open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:00 and closed at weekends, on +995 32 240 54 05. The Batumi Marriage License Bureau by the musical fountain has closed.

For a Kazbegi wedding, Stepantsminda has its own Public Service Hall at 49 Al. Kazbegi Street, which is why couples can register with Mount Kazbek behind them instead of driving back to Tbilisi.

What the paid options cost:

• Renting a private hall of the House of Justice on a workday: from 65 USD plus 18 per cent VAT.
• An off-site ceremony with a registrar at your venue, arranged by an agency: from 1,845 USD including translation, notarisation, two witnesses, the registrar's travel, a private transfer and an apostille; Violet Weddings starts at 1,400 USD. An outdoor ceremony by an authorised registrar is legally binding, not symbolic.
• Document packages without the ceremony: 370 to 795 USD across the agencies, with the apostille or legalisation the main variable.
• On-site civil registration as we arrange it at Glamping Tago: 255 GEL, with most ceremonies registered within 24 hours.

• Reading seated capacity as beds. Rooms Kazbegi seats 85 and sleeps hundreds; our camp seats 100 and sleeps 33 on the ridge. Ask both questions of every venue.
• Forgetting that vendors need transport. Photographers, DJs, hosts and stylists charge the ride to a mountain venue on top of their fee. Pool them into one car, and remember that a cameraman who leaves after the first dance needs his own ride back.
• Underestimating the night. At 1,200 to 2,200 m an August evening is cold. Guests in summer clothes are miserable by eleven, so say it in the invitation, and check that the venue heats its rooms.
• Believing the cable car. The Khulo cable car is closed for repair. The way up to us is a 4x4, and we send one to meet you in Khulo.
• Leaving Kazbegi late in winter. Local practice is to be off the Jvari Pass in daylight, which means leaving Stepantsminda by 14:30, not after a long lunch.
• One night for a two-day drive. Guests who fly in, drive three hours, dance and leave at nine the next morning see nothing. Two nights is the minimum that works, and most couples arrive two or three days early.
• No rain plan. It is the first thing forgotten. Ask exactly which covered space fits your guest count, and stand in it. Ours is the event tent with its sides closed, and the yurt with its wood stove after that. Mountain rain here is usually hard and short, and a wet forecast for the valley town says little about the ridge.
• The cake. A tiered cake ordered in the city has to fit through a mountain kitchen's door and into its fridge. Ours is 60 by 50 cm, and we ask for the cake size in advance for that reason.
• Booking late. June to September books six to twelve months ahead in our own diary, and the Georgian agencies say high-season venues go six to eight months out.

1. Pick the window first, then the region. May, June, September or early October in any of the four. If you need December to March, that decides it: Bakuriani, Gudauri or Borjomi.
2. Ask three numbers before you fall in love with a photograph. Beds on the property, seated capacity under a roof, and what the price per guest includes.
3. Book the venue and hold the date. Our date is confirmed by a 30 per cent prepayment of the total booking amount, which is non-refundable and is your minimum; we can pencil a date for one week without it. High season needs six to twelve months.
4. Book the beds your guest list overflows into. In our case that is the village guesthouses at 150 GEL a room, booked through us at the same time as the camp, not in the final month.
5. Start the paperwork two to three months out. Passport translations from a Ministry of Justice translator, the application filed in advance, two witnesses named, and divorce certificates translated if they apply.
6. Tell your guests about the insurance rule when you send the invitations. 30,000 GEL of cover, from 2 GEL a day, for every day of their stay.
7. Lock the vendors, and their transport. Photographer, videographer, host, DJ or band, and one car for all of them if the venue can pool it.
8. Send the programme 30 days before, the rooming list and the final food count 7 days before. A wedding books the whole camp, so the number of tents cannot be reduced later; the food count can still move until 7 days out.
9. Build the transfer plan a few days before. Flight and train times for every guest, waves of minibuses, and a named driver for the ones arriving at midnight.
10. Call the road the day before if a pass is involved. The Roads Department on +995 32 2 31 30 76 for Goderdzi and the Jvari Pass, and the Khulo tourist information centre on +995 577 90 90 15, open 09:00 to 19:00, for the local view of the last kilometres.

For the couple and the planner, the list of what a mountain venue does not have is the one that matters. At Glamping Tago the tablecloths, linen napkins, plates, cutlery, glasses, candle holders, tea lights, lanterns, the wooden photo frame and the welcome board are lent free, and our team builds the arch, sets the light poles and moves the wood stoves into the tent for a cold night. What has to come with you or from Batumi: string lights, special flowers, candles in glass, flower stands, a projector, and any stage or event lighting beyond our string lights and light poles. Local women pick flowers and greens from village gardens and the forest, so the colours follow the season and early August is thin on flowers.

Three things worth knowing before the day. There is no high-power generator, so ask your DJ and lighting crew what they draw. Our own party speaker and two wireless microphones are free and carry a ceremony, speeches and dinner, but a dance party needs a DJ rig. And we buy your decor back afterwards at half price rather than watch you carry it down the mountain.

If your guests fly into Tbilisi and you want the famous mountain behind the photograph, choose Kazbegi and accept the pass. If you need 200 seats or more, or the easiest logistics in the country, choose Kakheti and call it vineyards rather than mountains. If you want a wedding in the snow, choose Bakuriani or Gudauri. And if you want a weekend where the whole group stays in one place, wakes up together and nobody drives anywhere, choose the Adjara mountains and fly into Batumi or Kutaisi.

Ask every venue the same three questions before you sign: how many beds are on the property, what happens if it rains, and what exactly the price per guest includes. The answers separate a good mountain wedding from an expensive lesson.

We are on the ridge above Village Tago in Khulo municipality, 1,200 m up in mountainous Adjara and about two hours from Batumi. A wedding books the whole camp: one wedding at a time, no other guests, and every clearing, the event tent, the yurt and the fire circle are yours for the weekend.

33 people sleep on the ridge in 12 Lotus Belle tents and a nine-bed dome. Above that number, seven family guesthouses in the village a few minutes below add 64 beds in 27 rooms, which is how a wedding of up to 100 guests still has a bed for everyone.
