A retreat in the mountains of Adjara starts at one of two airports. Batumi airport (BUS) sits 87 km by road from our camp in Tago and takes the full-service airlines: Turkish Airlines and Pegasus from Istanbul, Israeli, Gulf, Kazakh and Russian carriers. Kutaisi airport (KUT) is the Wizz Air base, with low-cost flights from 21 European cities in winter and 24 in summer, but it is about 214 km from Tago, via Batumi.

This guide is for retreat organisers who have to tell 10 to 30 people from different countries how to get there. It covers which airline flies from where in the 2026-27 season, what the tickets cost, a table by country, and the ground leg from each airport up to the mountains, including late-night arrivals and group transfers.

Batumi or Kutaisi: which airport should your participants fly into?

Fly into Batumi if there is a direct flight or a one-stop connection through Istanbul: the drive up is about 2 hours 30 minutes instead of a full day. Fly into Kutaisi when the participant lives near a Wizz Air city and the fare difference matters more than 3 extra hours on the road.

Where are participants going? Glamping Tago (our venue) in the Adjara mountains

Glamping Tago sits on a ridge above Tago village in Khulo, mountainous Adjara, at about 1,200 m. It is made for retreats of up to 30 people: the whole camp belongs to one group, and everyone sleeps on site in 12 Lotus tents for two and the Half Dome for 9. The 138 m2 platform under a sailcloth tent takes the whole group for sessions; the indoor yoga shala and the 38 m2 heated dome (10 to 12 people on mats) are for cold mornings and smaller circles. Since 2021 we have hosted more than 75 retreat groups, and we are open from 1 April to the end of October.

Which airlines fly into Batumi in 2026-27, and from which cities?

Batumi is served all year from Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Minsk and Moscow, and in summer also from Riga, Dubai, Kazakhstan, Chisinau and more than a dozen Russian cities. There is no Wizz Air at Batumi and no direct flight from the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany.

  • Istanbul (all year): Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Airport (IST) about 17 times a week, Pegasus from Sabiha Gokcen (SAW) about 5 times a week. The flight takes about 1h50, and one-way tickets on this leg run roughly EUR 63-105 in November 2026. This is the main connection for participants from the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, Bulgaria, Romania and North America.
  • Tel Aviv (all year): El Al, Arkia and Israir fly nonstop, about 22 flights a week, 2h15-2h20.
  • Minsk: Belavia flies Minsk-Batumi twice a week in the daytime from 17 November 2026, about 4h15, fares from 435 BYN.
  • Russia: Red Wings flies Moscow Zhukovsky-Batumi on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday in winter 2026-27 (about 3h40). In summer 2026 it added six new Batumi routes (Tyumen, Saratov, Perm, Volgograd, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, June to October) on top of St Petersburg, Kazan, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Ufa and others. Novosibirsk-Batumi runs weekly from late May to early October, about 4h30-4h50.
  • Kazakhstan (summer): FlyArystan flew Aktau-Batumi on Tuesday and Saturday from 6 June to 29 August 2026 (1h50, from 41,000 tenge one way with a 7 kg cabin bag) and Astana-Batumi from 2 June.
  • Riga (summer only): airBaltic runs Riga-Batumi in summer only. In winter, Latvian participants fly airBaltic to Tbilisi or connect.
  • Chisinau (summer): FlyOne started Chisinau-Batumi on 28 June 2026, Thursday and Sunday.
  • Egypt (summer): Air Cairo flies Cairo-Batumi once a week from late June to September (Georgia Today).
  • Gulf (summer): flydubai flies Dubai-Batumi from 26 June 2026; flynas and Jazeera Airways also fly to Batumi in season.
  • Caucasus and Central Asia: Baku (Azerbaijan Airlines, about 1h20-1h30), Yerevan, Uzbekistan Airways and Air Astana/SCAT appear on the airport's route map.
  • Tbilisi (domestic): Georgian Airways flies Tbilisi-Batumi about 3 times a week, about 50 minutes, from about US$143. Useful for a participant who arrives on a long-haul flight into Tbilisi.

Which airlines fly into Kutaisi, and from which cities?

Kutaisi is the Wizz Air airport of Georgia, with flights from 24 European cities in summer 2026. In winter 2026-27 (from 25 October) 21 of them keep flying: Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Bratislava, Brussels, Budapest, Dortmund, Frankfurt-Hahn, Katowice, Larnaca, Madrid, Memmingen, Milan, Paris, Poznan, Prague, Rome, Thessaloniki, Venice, Vilnius and Warsaw. Lyon is suspended from 22 October 2026, Hamburg has no winter flights, and Wroclaw returns on 28 March 2027.

  • Wizz Air carries most of the traffic. Warsaw flies 6 days a week in November 2026, Katowice 5 and Poznan 3 (Jak dofrunę); Wroclaw returns on 28 March 2027 with 2 flights a week. Bratislava, which opened in January 2026, has 4 flights a week in winter 2026-27.
  • Wizz Air Malta flies Venice-Kutaisi, a route launched in late 2025, with 3 flights a week from mid-May to early September (Georgia Today).
  • FlyArystan flies to Kutaisi all year from several Kazakh cities.
  • Azimuth flies Moscow Vnukovo-Kutaisi several times a week through the winter, about 3h35, from about 8,130 RUB one way.
  • Belavia, Pegasus and Ak Air Georgia complete the airline list.

There is no Ryanair at Kutaisi or anywhere in Georgia, and no Wizz Air flight from Sofia or Bucharest: Bulgarian and Romanian participants connect through Istanbul to Batumi.

The single fares come from the airlines' own pages: Berlin, Warsaw, Paris, Milan, Dortmund, Prague, Budapest and Larnaca.

What do flights to Batumi and Kutaisi cost, and when are they cheapest?

The cheapest seats into Kutaisi are in January and February, when Wizz Air sells one-way tickets from EUR 23 (Larnaca) to about EUR 60 (Paris, Dortmund). By April, when the retreat season opens, the same routes cost two to four times more: Berlin goes from EUR 56 to EUR 150, Paris from EUR 60 to EUR 220, Milan from EUR 40 to EUR 110. July, August and New Year are the most expensive weeks.

For Batumi, the price is mostly the Istanbul connection: roughly EUR 63-105 one way for the Istanbul-Batumi leg alone, on top of the flight to Istanbul.

What if there is no direct flight from your country?

Go through Istanbul. Turkish Airlines and Pegasus fly Istanbul-Batumi all year, about 22 times a week between them, and the flight is under 2 hours, which puts Batumi within one connection of most of Europe, North America and the Middle East.

The other options are slower for Adjara. Tbilisi has direct flights from much of Western Europe (The Georgian Guide): British Airways from London Heathrow daily, easyJet from London Luton twice a week, Transavia and Georgian Airways from Amsterdam, LOT from Warsaw daily. Summer 2026 added Condor Frankfurt-Tbilisi from 15 June, Eurowings Cologne-Tbilisi from 2 July and Norwegian Copenhagen-Tbilisi from 27 June (Georgia Today). From Tbilisi, it is a 50-minute Georgian Airways flight to Batumi, about 3 a week, or a long drive: our private 4x4 from Tbilisi to Tago takes about 8h30 and costs 925 GEL per car, a 15-seat minibus 1,115 GEL (our guest transport guide).

How do participants get from Batumi airport to the retreat?

By transfer, straight up the mountain road. The airport is on the southern edge of Batumi, and a transfer goes directly onto the Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road: 87 km, about 2 hours 30 minutes including the last stretch up to the ridge.

A winding mountain road and a village in a deep valley in mountainous Adjara, lit by sun through mist
The road from Batumi climbs through the valleys of Keda and Khulo.
  • Private 4x4 from us: 265 GEL per car for up to 4 people, Batumi to Tago, about 2h30 (our transport page).
  • Group minibus: a 15-seat minibus from Batumi airport to Tago costs 410 GEL one way, about 27 GEL per person for 30 people in two minibuses (our guest transport guide). Minivans for 7 and Mitsubishi Delicas for 6 fill the gaps, and a stop to collect people at a Batumi address costs 20 GEL extra. Transfers are paid in cash at reception in Tago, never to the driver.
  • Public transport: take bus 10 or a Bolt taxi (about 10-20 GEL, Maspindzeli) into town, then the marshrutka to Khulo from the old bus station at 1 Mayakovsky St. Marshrutkas leave every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 20:00, take about 2h30 and cost about 10 GEL, cash. In Khulo, a 4x4 taxi to Tago is 75 GEL per car for up to 4, 30-35 minutes; message us about 30 minutes before the marshrutka reaches Khulo, at any hour. Going through the city adds 12.6 km and about 15 minutes compared with a transfer straight from the airport (Batumi to Khulo guide).

Bus 10 to the centre costs 0.70 GEL on a local transport card, about 1 GEL on a foreign bank card, and stops in the evening. After about 21:00, plan a car.

Cash for the road: there are ATMs in Keda (about 38 km from the airport), Shuakhevi (about 65 km) and Khulo (about 81 km), the town below the camp. Bring lari for the marshrutka, the village shops and the transfer, which is paid in cash.

How do participants get from Kutaisi airport to Adjara?

By the flight-timed coach to Batumi (about 2 hours, 25-30 GEL), then on as from Batumi; or by a private car straight to the camp. Kutaisi airport is 123 km by road from the Batumi coach station, through Samtredia and Kobuleti, and about 214 km from Tago.

  • Coach to Batumi: Georgian Bus, OmniBus and Metro Georgia have desks in the arrivals hall and run 24/7, leaving 30 to 60 minutes after each flight lands. Georgian Bus waits for a delayed flight, stops in Batumi at the New Bus Station, 11 Giorgi Tsabadze St, platform 14, and takes cash or card on board. Adults pay 30 GEL, children under 12 pay 20 GEL (The Georgian Guide), and groups of 5 or more get 5 GEL off per person when they contact the company at least a day ahead. Online sales close 2 hours before departure; an extra bag costs 25 GEL.
  • Private car to Batumi: fixed prices start around 236 GEL per car on OrbiTrip, a minivan from about 309 GEL, paid in cash to the driver; GoTrip drivers start at 199 GEL per car. About 2 hours.
  • Private 4x4 or minibus from us, straight to Tago: 465 GEL per car for up to 4, or 795 GEL for a 15-seat minibus (about 53 GEL per person when full), about 5h30. When 10 to 15 people land on the same Kutaisi flight, the direct minibus is the simple choice.
  • Train: a free shuttle runs 1.8 km to Kopitnari station, and the train to Batumi takes about 1h30 for 31-36 GEL in second class. There are only two to four departures a day (our transport page), so it rarely fits a flight.
A gravel road with a wooden sign reading 4X4 ONLY leading into a forest

The coach from Kutaisi and the Khulo marshrutka leave from different stations in Batumi, 2 km apart: about 5 minutes by taxi from the New Bus Station on Tsabadze St to the old bus station on Mayakovsky St.

What changes for late-night arrivals at Kutaisi?

Book a bed for the night. Wizz Air flights to Kutaisi often land at 23:00, midnight or later, and nobody should drive a mountain road at 2 in the morning after a day of travel. Stay in Kutaisi or Batumi and come up the next morning.

  • The coaches to Batumi still run after night flights, so the participant can sleep in Batumi and join the morning transfer.
  • The ATMs and SIM kiosks in arrivals work around the clock (RideGE); a withdrawal costs 3-5 GEL depending on the bank (FSTA), and the exchange counter may close after midnight. Magti is the usual SIM for signal in the mountains (Maspindzeli).
  • A 24-hour shuttle runs to Kutaisi city every 2 hours, on the odd hours, for 5 GEL, card only.

There is no hotel in the terminal, and Kutaisi centre is about 30 minutes by car (Kutaisi airport), so book the night before the flight. For a whole group on one evening flight, our minibus can meet them in arrivals and drive straight up with a food stop on the way.

How to plan arrival waves and group transfers (step by step)

  1. Fix the dates first, then send the flight brief. Give every participant the table above and one rule: land in Batumi or Kutaisi on day 1 by a set time.
  2. Collect flight numbers 30 days out. We lock the programme 30 days before arrival and the final head count 14 days before, in writing.
  3. Group the arrivals into waves. One minibus per Batumi arrival window, one per Kutaisi flight. A Kutaisi wave of Wizz Air passengers can also take the coach to Batumi and join the Batumi wave.
  4. Pick the vehicle per wave. Up to 4 people: a 4x4 (265 GEL from Batumi). Up to 15: a minibus (410 GEL from Batumi airport, 795 GEL from Kutaisi). Bigger waves: two minibuses.
  5. Plan a back-up for moved flights. A participant whose flight moves can take a smaller car later in the day, or the coach plus marshrutka on their own.
  6. Send the tent list 7 days before. Then share the driver's name and number with each wave.
  7. Departure day: book the transfers back for flight times, and add the ground time: about 2h30 to Batumi airport, about 5h30 to Kutaisi.

Which entry rules does every participant need?

Health and accident insurance. Since 1 January 2026 every visitor to Georgia needs a policy of at least 30,000 GEL covering the whole stay, in Georgian or English, on paper or on the phone, and the Patrol Police check it at the border. No valid policy can mean being refused entry.

Buy it before flying. A GPI tourist policy bought before entry starts at the border, while one bought once you are already in Georgia starts 24 hours after purchase. Kutaisi airport sells policies in the terminal, but not at night. Check visa rules for each passport on the official Georgia travel site as well.

Questions people ask

Is it better to fly into Batumi or Kutaisi for a retreat in Adjara?

Batumi, whenever a direct flight or an Istanbul connection exists: it is 87 km from Glamping Tago, about 2h30 by car. Kutaisi makes sense for participants near a Wizz Air city in Central or Southern Europe; it is about 214 km away via Batumi, roughly 5h30 by private car or 2 hours by coach to Batumi plus the mountain leg.

Are there direct flights from the UK or the Netherlands to Batumi or Kutaisi?

No. Neither airport has a direct flight from the UK, the Netherlands or Ireland. The easiest route is Turkish Airlines or Pegasus via Istanbul to Batumi, about 22 flights a week and about 1h50. London and Amsterdam do fly direct to Tbilisi, but that leaves a domestic flight or an 8h30 drive to the camp.

Which airlines fly to Kutaisi in winter 2026-27?

Wizz Air from 21 European cities, Wizz Air Malta from Venice, FlyArystan from Kazakhstan, Belavia, Azimuth from Moscow, Pegasus and Ak Air Georgia. Lyon, Hamburg and Wroclaw pause for the winter. There is no Ryanair at Kutaisi.

How much is a flight from Europe to Kutaisi?

In January and February Wizz Air sells one-way tickets from about EUR 23 (Larnaca) to EUR 60 (Paris, Dortmund). In April 2027 the same routes cost EUR 90 to 220, and July, August and New Year are the most expensive. Add a cabin bag, which the basic fare does not include.

How do we get from Kutaisi airport to the mountains of Adjara?

Take the coach that leaves 30 to 60 minutes after each flight to Batumi (about 2 hours, 25-30 GEL), then the marshrutka to Khulo from the old bus station plus a 4x4 taxi to Tago. Our private 4x4 goes straight from Kutaisi airport to Tago for 465 GEL per car of up to 4, and a 15-seat minibus for 795 GEL.

Our flight lands in Kutaisi after midnight. Can we still go straight up?

Better not. Stay the night in Kutaisi or Batumi and come up by daylight: the last part of the route is a mountain road. The coaches to Batumi still run after night flights, and the ATMs and SIM kiosks in arrivals are open around the clock.

Do participants need travel insurance to enter Georgia?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026 every visitor needs health and accident insurance of at least 30,000 GEL for the whole stay, checked at the border. Buy it before flying: a policy bought after arrival can start only 24 hours later.

Will someone meet the group at Batumi airport?

Yes, when you book a transfer with us the driver meets the group at Batumi airport and drives straight to Tago. A 15-seat minibus costs 410 GEL one way, a 4x4 for up to 4 costs 265 GEL, and a pickup from a Batumi address costs 20 GEL extra.

How do participants pay for the transfer?

Transfers we arrange are paid in cash, in lari, at reception in Tago, never to the driver. The coach from Kutaisi airport takes cash or card on board, and the marshrutka to Khulo is cash only, about 10 GEL. There are ATMs in arrivals at both airports and in Keda, Shuakhevi and Khulo on the way.

How many people can stay at Glamping Tago for a retreat?

Glamping Tago is made for retreats of up to 30 people, with 33 beds on site, and the whole camp belongs to your group. For a larger group, the guesthouses in Tago village add 64 more beds.
