Honeymoon in Georgia (the Country) 2026: Where to Stay, Routes and Costs

Georgia (the Caucasus country) suits couples who want mountains, wine and a road trip rather than a tropical beach: plan 7 to 10 days, go in May-June or September-October, and mix a mountain stay in Adjara or Kazbegi with a Kakheti wine estate, Tbilisi and the Black Sea.

Is Georgia (the country) a good place for a honeymoon?

Yes, if the two of you like mountains, wine and a bit of road trip. In 7 to 10 days you can wake up in a tent at the edge of a ridge in Adjara, drink qvevri wine on a Kakheti estate, take a private sulfur bath in Tbilisi and end on the Black Sea in Batumi, and the US State Department rates Georgia Level 1, its lowest risk level.

It is the wrong pick for a white-sand, overwater-villa honeymoon. Batumi's beach is pebble, the sea is warm only from July to September, and the country's best stays are boutique estates, mountain hotels and glamping rather than island resorts. Roaming Legs puts it the same way: Georgia suits couples who want nature, food and wine, not a lagoon.

The tents at Glamping Tago face the Adjara mountains

Three things shape every Georgian honeymoon plan:

  • East or west. Tbilisi, Kazbegi and the Kakheti wine country are in the east, around Tbilisi airport. Batumi, the Black Sea coast and the mountains of Adjara are in the west, around Batumi and Kutaisi airports. The train between Tbilisi and Batumi takes 4 hours and links the two halves.
  • Insurance is an entry rule. Since 1 January 2026 every foreign visitor needs health and accident insurance with at least 30,000 GEL of cover for the whole stay (decree No. 602).
  • The season. May to June and September to October are the sweet spots. The mountain stays (Glamping Tago included) close for the winter, and August is the most expensive month on the coast.

Which stay fits you as a couple?

Pick by the kind of days you want: a mountain ridge with a wood stove, a wine estate, a city or the sea. This table compares the stays in this guide on the facts that decide it for two people.

Where should you stay for a mountain honeymoon?

For mountains without crowds, stay in Adjara: Glamping Tago is on a ridge above Village Tago, 2.5 to 3 hours from Batumi, and Eco House Merisi is a glass-cottage hotel 48 km from Batumi. For the classic snow-peak view, stay in Kazbegi, about 3 hours north of Tbilisi, where Rooms Kazbegi faces Mount Kazbek.

Glamping Tago (our venue), Adjara

  • Where: above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, mountainous Adjara
  • Drive: from Batumi, 85 km of asphalt to Khulo, then 30-35 minutes up by 4x4; from Kutaisi airport, 215 km via Batumi
  • For two: 12 Lotus Belle tents for two, each with a double bed, a sofa, a wood stove (firewood included) and a gas heater; you choose a forest, mountain or sunset view
  • Price: changes with the date, see today's prices
  • Season: 1 April to the end of October

This is our camp, and it is built for exactly the slow days a honeymoon is for. Every stay includes the wood-fired sauna tent with a cold plunge, lit every evening from 20:00 to 22:00, the campfire, and tea and coffee all day. Meals are in Yurtalicious, our vegetarian yurt restaurant on site: a buffet breakfast for 32 GEL and a buffet dinner for 37 GEL per person (restaurant page), with an a la carte lunch. We ask guests not to bring their own food or drinks. The tent bed converts to a double or two singles, so tell us you want the double before you arrive. We take cards, bank transfers and cash (FAQ).

The honest part: the tents have no bathroom inside. Two bathhouse blocks, each with 2 showers and 2 toilets and hot water, sit a short walk away, and we provide towels and bedding. The last road from Khulo needs a 4x4, so either you drive one or we send our 4x4 taxi from Khulo for 75 GEL per car (how to get here). The sunset-view tents are the ones couples ask for by name, so book them first.

There is good Geocell and Magticom signal on the ridge and WiFi in the tents. On a rainy day, the restaurant has Georgian wine, craft beer and board games, and the stove keeps the tent warm; nights are cold at 1,185 m even in summer, so pack a warm layer.

The sauna tent is lit every evening from 20:00 to 22:00

From the camp, five marked hiking routes are free and a hiking guide costs from 150 GEL, and our tours page has the jeep day to Green Lake at 2,058 m. For the whole region, read our guide to mountainous Adjara.

Eco House Merisi, Keda (Adjara)

  • Where: Silibauri, Keda municipality, in a side valley off the Batumi to Khulo road
  • Drive: 48 km from Batumi by road
  • For two: glass-walled bedroom cottages with panoramic jacuzzis
  • Transfer: hotel group transfer from Batumi 20 GEL per person, leaving Batumi at 13:30 and returning at 11:00 (booking page)
  • Season: all year

Merisi is the pick if you want a hotel bed and a private jacuzzi with a mountain view, close to Batumi. It sits up its own side valley: going to Glamping Tago via Merisi adds 23 km and about 40 minutes, so treat it as a separate stop, not a break on the way. Booking needs 100% prepayment, which is not refunded if you cancel, and children under 12 are not accepted (booking page). Reviews say there is no shop nearby, so bring what you need.

Rooms Kazbegi, Stepantsminda

  • Where: Stepantsminda, at about 1,740 m, under Mount Kazbek
  • Drive: 152 km from Tbilisi on the Georgian Military Highway over the 2,379 m Jvari Pass, about 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours
  • For two: 156 rooms; book a Kazbek-view room, which carries the terrace view everyone comes for
  • Season: all year; the mountain season is June to September

Rooms Kazbegi opened in 2011 in a former Soviet sanatorium, with a long terrace facing Mount Kazbek, an indoor pool and a restaurant with a Georgian menu. The rooms are priced above the regional average; simple Stepantsminda guesthouses with a similar Kazbek view cost US$15 to 30, but none of them has the terrace.

The walk or drive up to Gergeti Trinity Church (2,170 m) is the Kazbegi moment. Up there it is 10 to 15 C colder than Tbilisi even in summer, and women are expected to cover their head and shoulders inside (Sakhva Travel).

Where should you stay in the wine country?

Stay in Kakheti, 90 to 130 km east of Tbilisi. The four estates below range from a 124-room historic estate to a small family winery, and all of them make or pour their own wine. Go in late September to mid-October and you arrive for rtveli, the grape harvest.

Tsinandali Estate (Radisson Collection), near Telavi

  • Where: the historic Chavchavadze estate in Tsinandali
  • Drive: 104 km from Tbilisi
  • For two: 124 rooms and suites, restaurants Natella and Prince Alexander, the Gaumarjos wine bar and a pool

The hotel stands on the historic Chavchavadze estate, so the park and the old family house are a short walk from your room.

Agarani Estate, Ruispiri near Telavi

  • Drive: 89 km from Tbilisi, the closest of the four
  • For two: 56 rooms in 7 categories, a pool and a vineyard, with views of the Caucasus (Agarani)

Agarani opened in spring 2025 (Georgia Travel), and its 2026 reviews praise the rooms and the food.

Babaneuris Marani, Babaneuri

  • Drive: 114 km from Tbilisi
  • For two: 3 rooftop doubles, 4 deluxe doubles with balconies and 2 two-room suites, one with a private tower terrace, all en suite; a heated pool open all year (Babaneuris Marani)

The family makes qvevri wine from 11 ha of Saperavi, Mtsvane, Kisi and Rkatsiteli in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus. Reviews praise the hosts, the food and the wine, and note there is little else around, which for a honeymoon is the point.

Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, Napareuli

  • Drive: 116 km from Tbilisi
  • For two: over 200 rooms on 60 ha around Lopota lake, with spas, forest trails and its own Chateau Buera winery (MICHELIN Guide)

Lopota is the one to choose if you want pools, activities and a lake rather than a quiet winery. It also hosts weddings: September 2026 reviews mention event music until 23:00 and a restaurant closed for weddings and events, so ask what is booked on your dates.

Sighnaghi, for a day

Sighnaghi is 110 km from Tbilisi: about 1 hour 45 minutes by car, or 2 to 2.5 hours by marshrutka for 10 GEL from the Navtlughi terminal at Samgori metro, at 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00 and 18:00 (marshrutka guide). The town walls run about 4.5 km with 28 towers and cost nothing to walk, the town museum is 5 GEL, and the Bodbe Monastery is 2 km out of town and free (TripLinkHub). It is also where many couples sign their marriage (see the marriage section below).

Tbilisi and Batumi: which city and sea nights are worth it?

Give Tbilisi two nights for the old town and a private sulfur bath, and Batumi one or two for the sea and the botanical garden. Either works as the start or the end of the trip, depending on which airport you fly into.

Tbilisi: a design hotel and a private sulfur bath

The sulfur baths of Abanotubani rent private rooms by the hour, which is the couple's way to do them. At Chreli Abano (the Orbeliani baths) a room for one or two costs 130 GEL an hour, with bigger rooms at 160 GEL and 200 GEL, and the bathhouse is open 09:00 to 23:00. The kisa scrub is 30 GEL extra at Chreli Abano, paid in cash to the attendant, and rooms are priced per room, not per person (The Georgian Guide). Friday and Saturday evenings and the May and October peaks sell out a day or two ahead, so book online first. Bring flip-flops, and leave jewellery at the hotel.

For the night, Stamba Hotel is a design hotel in a former Soviet printing house, praised for its food. A double runs 670 to 750 GEL a night, so it is a splurge night, not a base. The Rike Park to Narikala cable car is 2.5 GEL one way (TripLinkHub).

Batumi and the Black Sea coast

The seafront promenade in Batumi with palm trees and the Black Sea

Batumi is a city beach on pebbles, with warm water (25 to 26 C) from July to September. Sheraton Batumi is the seafront tower with a 20th-floor bar; the hotel also has a casino.

If you land at Kutaisi, Paragraph Resort & Spa Shekvetili, a Marriott Autograph Collection resort, is right on your way to Batumi: the detour from the airport road is about 4 km. Reviews praise the big spa and pools and say it is isolated, with expensive restaurants.

Batumi Botanical Garden covers 108.7 ha on the Green Cape, 9 km north of the centre, and climbs from the shore to 220 m. Entry is 25 GEL for foreigners, the electric bus on the main tourist route is 15 GEL a head, and on foot you need 2 to 3 hours (Georgia Guidebook).

The Argo cable car climbs from 1 Bako Street to the hill above the city, 10:00 to 23:00, for 39 GEL return per adult (9 GEL for children aged 5 to 12) (Argo). Gonio, about 13 km south of the centre by road, has a quieter pebble beach next to the Roman fortress of Gonio-Apsaros (15 to 20 GEL entry; a taxi is about 25 to 35 GEL, Georgia Spirit).

How long should a honeymoon in Georgia be?

Seven days covers one half of the country well; ten days lets you do the east and the west, linked by the 4-hour train. With fewer than five nights, stay in one half: Tbilisi to Batumi is about 365 km by road.

For more time, Svaneti is the third mountain region: one marshrutka a morning goes from Kutaisi to Mestia in 6 to 6.5 hours for 45 GEL, Vanilla Sky flies in from Kutaisi for 50 GEL when the cloud allows, the walking season is June to October, and Ushguli is 60 to 90 minutes from Mestia on a sealed road (The Georgian Guide). Mestia to Batumi is 270 km and about 6 hours 15 minutes via Zugdidi (OrbiTrip).

How do you get to Glamping Tago and around Georgia?

A rental car gives you the most freedom, and the main roads are free of tolls. Without one, the train links Tbilisi and Batumi, marshrutkas (minibuses) reach every town, and a fixed-price driver covers the mountain legs.

Batumi to Glamping Tago

LegHowTimePrice
Batumi to KhuloMarshrutka from Batumi bus station, every 30 min, 08:00-20:00About 2.5 hoursAbout 10 GEL

Kutaisi airport to Glamping TagoOur private 4x4, door to doorAbout 5.5 hours465 GEL per car, up to 4 people

All four rows come from our how to get here page. The marshrutka sign says ბათუმი - ხულო. Batumi to Khulo is 85 km of asphalt, so any car manages it; the last road up to Tago needs a real 4x4, and a rental "jeep" is not always one.

In a normal car, take the easier Skhalta valley road instead: turn off the Batumi to Akhaltsikhe road at Zamleti, 4.7 km before Khulo (94 km and about 2 hours from Batumi), drive 15 km up through Cheri, then 3.6 km through Dzmagula to us. It is longer than the road from Khulo but suits normal cars and minibuses, driven slowly.

Kutaisi airport and Tbilisi

From Kutaisi airport, the Georgian Bus runs 4 times a day to the Batumi cable car in about 2 hours for 25 GEL, and the train from the airport takes 2 hours for 31 GEL; the Kutaisi to Batumi marshrutka leaves Kutaisi bus station every hour from 08:00 to 18:00 (about 3 hours, 20 GEL). From Tbilisi, the double-decker train leaves Tbilisi Central for Batumi at 08:05 and 17:10 in autumn 2026 and takes 4 hours 1 minute: 36 GEL in second class, 76 GEL in first. Tickets go on sale on tkt.ge 20 days ahead, and in summer the 08:05 sells out first (The Georgian Guide).

Rental car, driver or marshrutka?

  • Rental car: a compact automatic is about US$30 a day in the warm season on Localrent, an AWD US$35 to 38, and full cover adds US$5 to 12 a day. Petrol is 3.85 GEL a litre. A home licence in Latin letters is valid for a year (The Georgian Guide).
  • The excess: standard cover leaves an excess of US$100 to 600 and excludes tyres, glass, the underside of the car and unpaved roads (Georgia Guidebook). Pay for the full cover if you plan mountain roads.
  • Driver: a fixed-price driver from Tbilisi to Kazbegi costs from 210 GEL per car. In cities, Bolt is the ride app; Uber does not operate (The Georgian Guide).
  • Marshrutka: Didube station in Tbilisi serves Kazbegi (20 GEL, about 11 departures from 08:00 to 19:00 in summer); the Navtlughi terminal at Samgori metro serves Sighnaghi and Telavi (marshrutka guide).

What does a honeymoon in Georgia cost in 2026?

A mid-range trip costs 200 to 370 GEL per person per day, and a comfortable one 600 GEL or more (The Georgian Guide). One couple's 10-day trip came to about US$3,200 for two, flights, hotels and a rental car included.

Food and wine prices come from Georgia Guidebook. Hotel rooms cost more each summer: in July 2026 the national hotel price index was 8.7% above July 2025, with the biggest monthly rise in Adjara (PMCG).

If you would rather hand it all over, TbilisiWelcome sells a private 7-day honeymoon tour through Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Sighnaghi and Batumi from US$770 per person with 4-star hotels, or from US$460 without them.

When is the best month for a honeymoon in Georgia?

Late May to June and September to mid-October: mild in Tbilisi, open in the mountains, and quieter than August. September is the one month that gives you all three: the harvest in Kakheti, a warm sea in Batumi and cool, clear mountains.

Can you also get married in Georgia on the trip?

Yes. Foreigners can register a civil marriage in Georgia, free of charge without a ceremony at a Public Service Hall, or with a ceremony at a wedding house such as Sighnaghi's. Both partners must be 18 or older and come in person with two adult witnesses (Public Service Development Agency).

What you bring: your passports (accepted without translation when the name is in Latin letters), proof that you are in Georgia legally, and any foreign civil documents apostilled and translated into Georgian by a notary. Nobody can register for you by proxy.

The Sighnaghi Wedding House is open Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 18:00, and charges 135 GEL on weekdays and 225 GEL at the weekend (Sighnaghi municipality). It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Couples first apply at the House of Justice in Tbilisi, where the date, time and place are set (Madloba). Registries in other cities charge similar fees: Batumi 136 GEL on weekdays and 226 GEL at weekends (Vowly).

For the whole plan, read our guide to eloping in Georgia. If you want the wedding itself in the mountains with your family and friends, Glamping Tago hosts weddings of up to 100 guests: you book the whole camp, 33 guests sleep on the ridge and the rest in the Tago village guesthouses a few minutes below (wedding site).

What do couples get wrong?

How do you plan a Georgian honeymoon, step by step?

  1. Pick the half of the country by your airport: Tbilisi for Kazbegi and Kakheti, Batumi or Kutaisi for the sea and Adjara, or both with the train in the middle.
  2. Buy the travel insurance that names Georgia, with at least 30,000 GEL of cover for every day you are there.
  3. Book the small stays first: a Glamping Tago tent (sunset view), a small winery like Babaneuris Marani, or Rooms Kazbegi with a Kazbek view. Big hotels in Tbilisi and Batumi can wait.
  4. Decide car or no car. With a rental, take full cover and avoid the Goderdzi Pass. Without, book the train, our 4x4 transfer from Batumi or Khulo, and a driver for Kazbegi.
  5. Book the sulfur bath a few days ahead, and the Green Lake jeep day once you know the forecast.
  6. If you want to marry there, start with the House of Justice in Tbilisi and get your documents apostilled at home first.

Questions people ask

Is Georgia (the country) good for a honeymoon?

Yes, for couples who like mountains, wine and road trips: in 7 to 10 days you can combine a mountain stay, a Kakheti wine estate, Tbilisi and the Black Sea. It is not a tropical-beach destination: Batumi's beach is pebble and the sea is warm only from July to September.

What is the best month for a honeymoon in Georgia?

Late May to June and September to mid-October. September gives you the grape harvest in Kakheti, a sea still warm in Batumi and cool mountains. August is the busiest month, September rooms cost 20 to 30% less than at the August peak, and the mountain glamping stays close from November to March.

How many days do you need for a honeymoon in Georgia?

Seven days covers one half of the country: Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Kakheti in the east, or Batumi and the mountains of Adjara in the west. Ten days lets you do both, with the 4-hour train from Tbilisi to Batumi in the middle.

How much does a honeymoon in Georgia cost?

A mid-range trip costs 200 to 370 GEL per person per day and a comfortable one 600 GEL or more. One couple's 10-day trip came to about US$3,200 for two including flights, hotels and a rental car. Splurge hotels such as Stamba in Tbilisi charge 670 to 750 GEL a night.

Do we need travel insurance to enter Georgia in 2026?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026 every foreign tourist needs health and accident insurance valid for the whole stay with at least 30,000 GEL of cover. The policy must name Georgia and be in English or Georgian; without it you risk a 300 GEL fine or being refused boarding or entry. Russian citizens stay up to 365 days visa-free on an international passport, and the insurance rule applies to them too.

Can a couple get married in Georgia during their honeymoon?

Yes. Foreign couples can register a civil marriage in person with two adult witnesses, passports and apostilled, translated civil documents. The Sighnaghi Wedding House works Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 18:00, for 135 GEL on weekdays and 225 GEL at weekends, and couples usually apply first at the House of Justice in Tbilisi.

Do the tents at Glamping Tago have a private bathroom?

No. Each Lotus Belle tent for two is private, with a double bed and its own wood stove, but the showers and toilets are in a shared bathhouse with hot water a short walk away. Couples who want an en-suite bathroom often pair two or three nights with us with a hotel night before and after.

Can we drive a rental car to Glamping Tago?

Batumi to Khulo is 85 km of asphalt that any car handles, but the zigzag road from Khulo up to Tago needs a real 4x4. Without one, take the easier Skhalta valley road from Zamleti, or park in Khulo and take our 4x4 taxi for 75 GEL per car, or book our private 4x4 from Batumi for 265 GEL. Rental contracts forbid the Goderdzi Pass road from Akhaltsikhe, so come via Batumi.
