Digital Detox in Georgia (the Country), 2026: Where to Spend a Week Without Your Phone

Back to the blog

Published 22 September 202613 min readPrices and facts checked: September 2026

Four realistic ways to spend a screen-free week in the country of Georgia in 2026: the dates, prices from EUR 260 to EUR 1,190 per person, what each retreat really does with your phone, and how to reach a mountain camp from Batumi.

Can you really spend a week without your phone in Georgia (the country)?

Yes, and it is easier here than in most of Europe, because the mountains start two hours from the sea and the villages in them still run at walking speed. The catch is that almost no venue will take your phone away for you: most "digital detox" listings are quiet hotels with good Wi-Fi, and the discipline is left to you.

First, a search warning. In English, "digital detox retreat in Georgia" returns the US state: Elohee, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, the Len Foote Hike Inn at Amicalola Falls. If you want the country in the Caucasus, search for "Georgia country", "Caucasus", "Adjara", "Kakheti" or "Tbilisi", or you will book a weekend outside Atlanta by mistake.

In 2026 there are four realistic ways to do a genuinely screen-free week in the country of Georgia: a hosted phone-free week where devices go into a safe, a silent Vipassana course, a general wellness retreat where the phone rule is your own, or a do-it-yourself week somewhere with no mobile signal. They cost very different amounts and they suit very different people.

Which phone-free retreats and quiet weeks exist in Georgia in 2026?

Here are the options we could verify at their own source in September 2026, with what each one actually does about your phone. Prices are per person, as each organiser states them.

Digital Detox & Mental Health Week, Glamping Tago (mountainous Adjara)

  • Where: Tago village, Khulo municipality, upper Adjara, at roughly 2,000 m of mountain views.
  • Drive time: about 2.5 hours from Batumi, about 5.5 hours from Kutaisi, about 8.5 hours from Tbilisi.
  • Capacity: 33 spots, in 12 two-person Lotus Belle tents and one 9-bed dome dormitory.
  • 2026 dates: Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November, 6 nights, everyone arrives and leaves together.
  • Price from: EUR 420 per person for a dorm bed with the early-bird discount until 30 September 2026; EUR 600 standard. Accommodation, three meals a day and the full programme are included.
  • Phone rule: phone, laptop, tablet and smartwatch go into a labelled pouch and into a safe at arrival, and come back at the closing circle. A host phone stays reachable day and night, and you can ask for your own device at any time.
  • Good for: people who work in front of a screen, want structure rather than a spa, and would rather be in a group than alone.
  • Watch out for: it is one fixed week per year, the kitchen is fully vegetarian, bathrooms and showers are shared blocks, and late October nights up here drop close to freezing.

Metta: a Vipassana retreat in Thai village style

  • Where: a venue rented for each course in the Georgian hills and mountains, capacity about 10 participants plus staff.
  • 2026 dates: 16-20 October 2026, four days.
  • Price: EUR 260 or the equivalent to cover shared costs (accommodation, food, transfers, materials), plus whatever you choose to give for the teaching.
  • Phone rule: devices are surrendered, and silence is kept for the whole course.
  • Good for: people who want the real thing on a short schedule and do not mind a 5:00 wake-up and two vegetarian meals a day, with no dinner.
  • Watch out for: ten places only, and the venue changes from course to course, so check the location before you book flights.

A 10-day Vipassana course, donation only

  • Where: Vipassana Meditation Georgia, based in Tbilisi, runs 10-day courses; the venue for each course is confirmed when you apply.
  • Length: ten full days, twelve with the arrival and departure days.
  • Price: nothing. Courses "are run solely on a donation basis. There are no charges for the course, not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation," and donations are accepted only from people who have already completed a course.
  • Phone rule: the strictest of all. "No outside communication is allowed before the course ends. This includes messages, phone calls, and visitors," and devices are deposited with management.
  • Good for: anyone willing to commit fully, on any budget.
  • Watch out for: this is meditation training, not rest. Noble Silence means no talking, no gestures, no notes, and you commit to the full period.

EkoRetreat, 21 km from Tbilisi

  • Where: Mtskheta, 21 km from Tbilisi, with an earlier 2026 edition held in Gonio near Batumi.
  • 2026 dates: 7-14 October 2026, seven days, from EUR 710. The spring edition in Gonio ran 29 April - 5 May 2026 from EUR 600.
  • Group: about 30 people, three vegetarian meals a day, gentle psychological and spiritual practices.
  • Good for: a Russian-speaking group programme close to the capital, with easy transport.
  • Watch out for: no device rule is stated on their site, so if a phone-free week is the point, ask them before you pay.

Doing it yourself where there is no signal

If you would rather not join a group, rent a room in a village where the network simply is not there. Tusheti is the classic: the road in is a 72 km off-road stretch that takes about 4 to 5 hours, crosses the Abano pass at 2,926 m, is only passable by 4x4 and is open roughly from late May to October. Coverage in Tusheti barely exists beyond the guesthouses.

The trade-off is honest: no programme, no one holding the frame, and you will need a plan for what you do with seven quiet days. It is also the cheapest version, and the hardest to stick to if you bring a laptop.

What does a digital detox week in Georgia cost in 2026?

A hosted week costs EUR 260 to 1,190 per person for the programme itself, depending on how much comfort and structure you buy. Add flights and one transfer, and most people land between EUR 600 and EUR 1,300 all in for a week.

When is the best time of year for a screen-free week in the Georgian mountains?

Late April to October, and late September to late October if you want the calmest version. Mountain camps in Adjara are seasonal: Glamping Tago runs from 1 April to 31 October and closes for winter, and the Goderdzi pass above Khulo closes with the snow.

MonthWhat the mountains are likeGood for

How do you get to a mountain retreat in Adjara from Batumi, Kutaisi or Tbilisi?

Fly to Batumi if you can: it is the closest airport to the Adjara mountains, about 2.5 hours by road. Kutaisi and Tbilisi both work, they simply add hours.

  1. From Batumi, by public transport: a marshrutka from the old Batumi bus station to Khulo takes about 2h30 and costs around 10 GEL, running roughly every 30 minutes between 08:00 and 20:00. From Khulo, a 4x4 taxi covers the last mountain road to Tago in 30 to 35 minutes for 75 GEL per car, up to four people.
  2. From Batumi, door to door: a private 4x4 transfer is 265 GEL per car one way.
  3. From Kutaisi: 5h30 and 465 GEL per car direct, or take the train or bus to Batumi first (train 2h, 31 GEL; bus 2h, 25 GEL) and continue from there.
  4. From Tbilisi: 8h30 and 925 GEL per car direct, or the scenic train to Batumi in about 6 hours for 35 GEL, then the mountain leg.
  5. From Akhaltsikhe over the Goderdzi pass: 4h30 and 360 GEL per car, summer only.

Full details, including the easier Skhalta valley route for normal cars, are on how to get to Glamping Tago.

What does a real no-phone rule look like?

A real rule has three parts: the device is collected and stored, there is a published way for your family to reach you, and you can get the phone back on request without an argument. Anything softer is a suggestion, and suggestions lose to notifications.

At Glamping Tago's week the phone, laptop, tablet and smartwatch go into a labelled pouch and into a safe at arrival, and come out at the closing circle on the last day. The hosts keep their phones, that number goes to participants before the week so they can pass it to family or a team, and anyone who needs their own device asks a host and gets it. On a Vipassana course the rule is harder still: no messages, no calls, no visitors, and devices deposited with management for the full ten days.

Ask three questions before you book:

  • Where exactly is my phone during the week, and who holds the key?
  • What number do I give my family, and who answers it at 03:00?
  • What happens if I need to make one call? Is that a conversation or a confrontation?

How do you book a digital detox week in Georgia, step by step?

  1. Pick the format first, not the place. Hosted group week, silent course, or solo village week. They are three different holidays.
  2. Check the dates against the season. Mountain camps in Adjara run April to October; Tbilisi-based courses run all year.
  3. Confirm the device policy in writing before you pay anything, especially with hotels and general wellness retreats.
  4. Book the week, then the flights. Fixed-arrival weeks like 26 October to 1 November have one arrival day, and a cheap flight landing on the Tuesday is not a bargain.
  5. Book 2 to 6 months ahead for autumn dates, and earlier for June to September, when the Adjara camps fill with groups. Early-bird tiers usually close 4 to 8 weeks before the start.
  6. Pay the deposit. Glamping Tago's detox week takes a 30 percent prepayment and the rest before or on arrival.
  7. Arrange the transfer with the venue, not with a taxi app. Bolt and Yandex drivers will reach Khulo but not Tago, and often ask for more than the app price because they have no return passenger.
  8. Tell your people, in advance, which number reaches you and that you will not read messages for seven days. Set the out-of-office before you leave home.

What do people get wrong about a detox week here?

  • They keep the phone "just for photos". It works for a day. Bring a real camera or an e-reader without a browser instead; at our week a simple camera or an e-reader is fine, anything with a SIM, Wi-Fi or apps goes in the box.
  • They book the coast in October. Batumi in autumn is rain and closed cafes. The mountains in October are the best week of the year.
  • They pack for a beach holiday. At 2,000 m the nights are cold in August and close to freezing in late October. Thermals, a warm jacket, a rain shell and waterproof boots.
  • They arrive on the wrong day. A week built as one arc starts with a welcome circle. Missing it means arriving as a stranger on Tuesday.
  • They expect a spa. Shared showers, a wood-fired sauna in a tent, a vegetarian kitchen and a mountain road. If you want a massage table and room service, book a resort in Kakheti.
  • They confuse a detox with treatment. A week helps with tiredness, sleep and perspective. It does not replace care for a clinical condition.

Is a digital detox retreat the same as burnout treatment?

No, and any retreat that claims otherwise is selling something. A hosted week is psychoeducational: talks and group sessions about stress, sleep, attention and habits, plus movement, food and rest. That is genuinely useful when you are exhausted and cannot think straight, and it is the format most tech workers actually need.

If you are in acute crisis or under clinical care, a mountain week is not a substitute, and a good organiser will say so before taking your deposit and will talk it through with you first.

Glamping Tago for this

The Digital Detox & Mental Health Week at Glamping Tago

We run one phone-free week a year in Tago village, high in the Khulo valley of mountainous Adjara, about 2.5 hours from Batumi. In 2026 it runs from Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November, six nights, and everyone arrives and leaves together because the week is built as one arc.

At arrival your phone, laptop, tablet and smartwatch go into a labelled pouch and into a safe. They come back at the closing circle. The hosts keep their phones, and that number goes to participants beforehand so family or a team can always reach you.

The days are simple: yoga, breathwork and meditation in the morning, a psychological talk and a group circle before lunch, hikes and free time in the afternoon, sauna and ice baths, campfire at night. Three fresh vegetarian meals a day, and 33 places in total.

Be warned about the honest limits: shared shower blocks, a fully vegetarian kitchen, a 4x4 mountain road for the last 35 minutes, and cold autumn nights.

Questions people ask

Is this about Georgia the country or the US state?

The country in the Caucasus, between the Black Sea and Russia, with Tbilisi as its capital. English searches for digital detox retreats in Georgia are dominated by the US state, so add "country", "Caucasus" or a region name like Adjara or Kakheti to your search.

Which retreats in Georgia actually take your phone away?

Glamping Tago's Digital Detox & Mental Health Week collects phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches at arrival and locks them in a safe for six nights. A 10-day Vipassana course goes further: no messages, calls or visitors at all, with devices deposited with management. Metta's short course also collects devices and keeps silence. Most other listings have no device rule, so ask before you pay.

How much does a week without a phone cost in Georgia?

The programme itself runs from EUR 260 for a four-day silent course with shared costs up to EUR 1,190 for a private tent on a hosted week. A dorm bed on Glamping Tago's six-night week is EUR 420 with the early-bird tier until 30 September 2026, EUR 600 standard, with bed, three meals a day and the whole programme included. A 10-day Vipassana course is free and runs on donations.

Can my family reach me if my phone is locked away?

At Glamping Tago's week, yes. The hosts keep their phones on site and that number is sent to participants before the week starts, so it can be shared with family or colleagues. If a call comes in, someone comes to find you, and you can ask for your own device at any time. On a Vipassana course the rule is stricter: no outside communication until the course ends.

When is the best month for a screen-free week in the Georgian mountains?

Late September and October for the calmest version: warm days, cold nights, golden forests and no crowds. June to August are warm but busy. Mountain camps in Adjara are seasonal, and Glamping Tago is open from 1 April to 31 October only, so from November to March you are looking at courses based near Tbilisi.

How do I get from Batumi to a retreat in the Adjara mountains?

A marshrutka from the old Batumi bus station to Khulo takes about 2h30 and costs around 10 GEL, leaving roughly every 30 minutes between 08:00 and 20:00. From Khulo a 4x4 taxi covers the last mountain road to Tago in 30 to 35 minutes for 75 GEL per car, up to four people. A private 4x4 transfer door to door from Batumi is 265 GEL per car.

Do I need a visa for a retreat in Georgia?

Probably not. Citizens of 94 countries listed in the government ordinance may enter Georgia without a visa and stay for one full year, counted per entry rather than on a rolling 90-day rule. Check the list for your passport before you book flights.

Is a digital detox week the same as burnout treatment?

No. A hosted week is psychoeducational: talks and group sessions on stress, sleep, attention and habits, plus movement, food and rest. That helps when you are exhausted, but it is not clinical care. If you are in acute crisis or under treatment, talk it through with the organiser before you book.
