# Mountain Wedding Venues in Georgia (the Country), 2026: Kazbegi, Gudauri, Adjara and Kakheti Compared

Source: https://glampingtago.ge/blog/mountain-wedding-venues-georgia · Updated 2026-10-16 · Glamping Tago

## TL;DR

- Georgia the country has four mountain wedding regions: Kazbegi and Gudauri at 1,740 to 2,200 m, the Adjara mountains above Batumi, the Kakheti foothills at 477 to 700 m, and Borjomi with Bakuriani. Only Adjara sells a whole-property buyout.
- Ask for beds on the property, not seated capacity. Rooms Kazbegi seats 85 and has 286 beds; Glamping Tago is made for weddings of about 30 guests and sleeps 33 on the ridge; Eco House Merisi seats 50 and sleeps up to 54.
- Registration at a Georgian Public Service Hall is free and needs only a joint application, passports, two adult witnesses and proof that any earlier marriage ended. A certificate of no impediment is not required, and a passport in Latin letters needs no translation.
- Since 1 January 2026 every foreign guest needs health and accident insurance of at least 30,000 GEL for every day of the stay, under Decree No. 602. Georgian insurers sell a compliant policy from 2 GEL a day.
- A two-night weekend for 30 to 60 guests runs about 10,000 to 35,000 GEL. Agency ceremony fees alone are 1,380 to 3,400 USD, and high season across the market carries a 20 to 30 per cent premium.
- May, June, September and early October are the months in every region. Glamping Tago is closed November to March and the Goderdzi pass closes in snow, so a winter mountain wedding means Bakuriani, Gudauri or Borjomi.

Georgia the country has four mountain wedding regions, and only one of them lets you buy out a whole property, with every guest of a wedding of about 30 sleeping on site. Here are the venues compared on beds, seated capacity, real 2026 prices, drive times, season and the legal steps, including the new insurance rule every guest now needs.

## Why do couples choose a mountain wedding in the Caucasus?

Because Georgia (the country, not the US state) is one of the easiest places in the world for two foreigners to marry, and it happens to have the Caucasus behind it. [Registration at a Public Service Hall is free](https://sda.gov.ge/en/products/marriage-registration/), it needs one visit, two witnesses and your passports, and there is no residency requirement and no waiting period.

Then there is the arithmetic. [Eventive](https://eventive.ge/ru/skolko-stoit-svadba-v-gruzii/) puts a wedding for 2 to 20 guests at 1,500 to 4,000 USD, 20 to 50 guests at 4,000 to 10,000 USD and 50 to 100 guests at 10,000 to 25,000 USD, including the party. [Matilda Events](https://matildaevents.com/wedding-cost-in-georgia-country-2026-budget/) gives 6,000 to 10,000 EUR for 15 to 25 guests and 12,000 to 22,000 EUR for 40 to 60. Those are whole-wedding numbers, not venue rental.

The hard part is choosing the mountains. Most lists rank hotels around Kazbegi and Gudauri or wineries in Kakheti, because that is where the Tbilisi wedding agencies work. The Adjara mountains above Batumi barely appear, and Kakheti gets called mountains when its venues sit between 477 and 700 m. This guide puts the four regions side by side with beds, seated capacity, drive times and real prices. It is written by one of the venues in it, [Glamping Tago](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/). Every other venue's figures below are its own published numbers, linked where they are stated.

> **Good to know:** The one question that decides everything is not how many guests a venue seats, but how many of them sleep there. A hotel that seats 85 at dinner may have 286 beds; a camp with 33 beds is made for a wedding of about 30 guests, and every one of them sleeps there. Ask for both numbers before you ask the price.

## Which venue fits your wedding?

Glamping is a very specific kind of wedding venue. It is right for a couple who want the whole place to themselves for a weekend, with every guest sleeping on site in the mountains, and wrong for a couple who want a ballroom, a coach to the door or a winter date. These are the differences that decide it:

| Venue | Just your wedding? | Beds on site | Ceremony setting | Max guests | Nearest airport |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Glamping Tago](#place-glamping-tago) (ours) | Yes, the whole camp, one wedding at a time | 33 on the ridge | Mountain meadow | About 30 | Batumi, 87 km |
| Eco House Merisi | Ask: a hotel with cottages | Up to 54 | Clifftop platform | 50 | Batumi |
| Lopota Lake Resort | No, a 310-room resort | 800 | Lake piers | 400 | Tbilisi, 116 km |
| Tsinandali Estate | No, a hotel and event complex | 124 rooms | Open-air amphitheatre | 700 | Tbilisi |
| Crowne Plaza Borjomi | No, a chain hotel | 300 | Indoor halls | 500 | Tbilisi, 162 km |
| Rooms Kazbegi | No, a 143-room hotel | 286 | Terrace facing Mount Kazbek | 85 seated | Tbilisi, 155 km |

> **Good to know:** "Just your wedding" means no other hotel guests on site and no second event on the same day. For a weekend wedding it matters more than the price per guest.

## How do the four mountain regions compare at a glance?

Kazbegi and Gudauri give you the highest mountains and the easiest Tbilisi logistics, the Adjara mountains are the only region where you can buy out a whole property and keep the group close, Kakheti is the large-capacity vineyard option in the foothills, and Borjomi with Bakuriani is the region that can run a wedding in February.

| Region | Altitude | Nearest airport and drive | Typical venue | Max seated at one venue | Beds on site | Season |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Adjara mountains (Khulo, Keda) | 500-2,027 m | Batumi, 32-106 km, 1-2 h | glamping buyout, eco lodges, chateaux | 50-120 | 33, or up to 54 | May to mid-October, one hotel all year |
| Kazbegi and Gudauri | 1,740-2,200 m | Tbilisi, 122-155 km, 2.5-3.5 h | design and ski hotels | 50-85 | 10-143 rooms; 286 beds at Rooms Kazbegi | all year, pass can close Oct-May |
| Kakheti foothills | 477-700 m | Tbilisi, 62-151 km, 1-2.5 h | lake resorts and wine estates | 200-700 | 19-310 rooms | all year |
| Borjomi and Bakuriani | 850-1,700 m | Tbilisi 162-186 km, Kutaisi 172 km, 2.5-3 h | spa and ski hotels | 100-500 | 101-164 rooms, 300 beds at Crowne Plaza | all year, ski season late Dec to late Mar |

Every distance is the real road distance. Drive times on these mountain roads run longer than any map app promises, so the times in each section are the local ones.

The venues this guide compares, with what each is actually for:

- **[Glamping Tago](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/)**, Village Tago, Khulo (Adjara): the whole-property buyout for weddings of about 30 guests and retreats of up to 30 people, everyone sleeping on site.
- **[Eco House Merisi](https://ecohousemerisi.com/)**, Keda (Adjara): glass cottages for 50, the strongest small venue in the region.
- **[Lopota Lake Resort](https://lopotaresort.com/)** and **[Kvareli Lake Resort](https://www.kvarelilakeresort.ge/)**, Kakheti: 200 to 400 guests in hotel rooms.
- **[Tsinandali Estate](https://silkhospitality.com/tsinandali-estate/)**, Kakheti: an open-air amphitheatre for up to 700, the biggest in the country.
- **[Crowne Plaza Borjomi](https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/gb/en/borjomi/bjrcp/hoteldetail)** and **[Kokhta Bakuriani](https://silkhospitality.com/kokhta-bakuriani/)**: the winter answer.
- **[Rooms Kazbegi](https://roomshotels.com/kazbegi/)**, Stepantsminda: the Mount Kazbek terrace, 85 seated.
- **[Hotel Chateau Iveri](https://chateauiveri.ge/)**, **[Vaio Resort](https://vaioresort.ge/)**, **[Hill Inn](http://www.hillinn.ge/)**, **[Ati Ambavi](http://www.ati-ambavi.com/)**: 15 to 40 guests.

## What can you expect from a wedding in the Adjara mountains, reached from Batumi and not Tbilisi?

A whole property to yourselves, reached from the Black Sea coast rather than the capital. Adjara's mountains start an hour inland from Batumi and rise to the Goderdzi Pass at 2,025 m, and the region is served by Batumi 87 km away and Kutaisi airport 141 km away, not by Tbilisi 8 hours off.

This is the only one of the four regions where a couple can buy out an entire venue for a weekend, and the only one where the last kilometres need a 4x4. Two of the venues below sit on the main Batumi to Khulo road; the rest are up side valleys that come back the same way, so plan them as separate drives, not as stops.

### Glamping Tago (our venue), Khulo

Where: the ridge above Village Tago, Khulo municipality, 1,200 m. Drive from Batumi: 87 km, about 2 hours, the last 8.9 km from Khulo on a 4x4 road, 20 to 35 minutes. Guests: about 30 for a wedding, up to 30 for a retreat, all sleeping on site. Beds: 33 on site, 12 Lotus Belle tents for two and a 9-bed dome dormitory. Price from: 3,258 GEL a night for the whole camp in April, 6,035 in July and August. Season: 1 April to the end of October, wedding season May to mid-October. Good for: a two-night wedding weekend where the group stays within minutes of each other and the place is closed to everyone else. Watch out for: coaches cannot reach us, the kitchen is vegetarian, and the camp closes for the winter.

The practical side. The getting-ready room is the heated yoga dome, 38 m2, free on the wedding day. The sauna is free for staying guests and takes 15 people every evening, and the fire circle seats 35 with the firewood included. [Starlink wifi](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/organizer-info) runs at about 300 Mbps for your vendors and a live stream. Order the cake in Batumi and send us its size: our freezer door is 60 by 50 cm. Children under 6 eat free and 6 to 12 pay half, an extra mattress in a tent is 50 GEL (30 for a child), and dogs are welcome for a 15 GEL cleaning fee. The village mosque calls to prayer mostly on Fridays, and we help you time the ceremony around it. Site visits happen at weekends, or we walk you round on a live video call.

This is us, so here are the numbers a planner asks for. The ceremony happens on the meadow facing the mountains with benches for the whole group and an arch our team builds, or in the forest clearing, or at Otsinari lake 30 minutes away. Dinner is in a sailcloth event tent of 15.2 by 9.7 m, about 150 m2, on its own wooden deck, whose sides close when it rains. [Yurtalicious](https://glampingtago.ge/restaurant/), our yurt restaurant, seats 36 inside and 20 outside and is both the rain plan and the place the party moves to at midnight. One wedding at a time, whole camp only, two nights recommended. Full prices, spaces and the timeline are on our [practical guide for organizers](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/organizer-info).

Our kitchen is fully vegetarian, which is the thing to decide early. The Mountain Supra is 85 GEL a head, the Euro-Georgian buffet 125 and the five-course signature menu 215 from 30 guests. Meat comes as a BBQ live station at 45 GEL a head, cooked for the whole group rather than part of it, or meat khinkali on the supra at 15. Corkage on your own wine or spirits is 15 GEL a bottle and we collect and chill drinks bought in Batumi.

> **Glamping Tago** (Village Tago, Khulo municipality (Adjara)) - our venue
> Ours, and the only venue in this guide you buy out completely: one wedding at a time, a 150 m2 event tent on a deck whose sides close for rain, benches on the ceremony meadow, and every guest sleeping on site in 33 beds, made for weddings of about 30 and retreats of up to 30. The last 8.9 km from Khulo is a 4x4 road, coaches cannot reach us, the kitchen is vegetarian and the camp closes from November to March.
> Price: 3,258 GEL a night for the whole camp in April, 6,035 in July and August · Capacity: Weddings of about 30 guests and retreats of up to 30, 33 beds on the ridge · Season: 1 April to the end of October · Google 4.9 (647)
> Pros: The whole camp is yours: one wedding at a time, no other guests; Every guest sleeps on site on the ridge: 33 beds; A two-night wedding weekend, not one evening in a hall; Ceremony on a mountain meadow, dinner in a 150 m2 tent
> Cons: The last 8.9 km from Khulo is a 4x4 road: no coaches; Closed November to March; Made for about 30 guests; Tents, not hotel rooms, and a vegetarian kitchen (meat as a BBQ station)

### Eco House Merisi

Where: the Merisi valley above Keda, at about 800 m. Drive from Batumi: 48 km, about 1 hour 10. Guests: [up to 50 for the wedding, 60 for a ceremony or dinner](https://ecohousemerisi.com/wedding-in-georgia/), in a restaurant hall for 50 plus two open terraces. Beds: [12 cottages and 3 villas](https://ecohousemerisi.com/rooms/), up to 54 guests. Ceremony spots: an open-air platform of about 50 m2 on the cliff edge and a covered backup venue of about 100 m2. Price: quoted individually, including a full hotel buyout. Season: all year. Good for: the best-reviewed venue in the Adjara mountains, 4.9 from almost 1,600 guests, and the only one besides us where most of the party sleeps on the property. Watch out for: [children under 12 are not allowed in the Nino cottages](https://ecohousemerisi.com/cottages-nino/), and a cottage takes 100 per cent prepayment that is not refunded if you cancel. Guests who eat only in the restaurant are the ones who rate it below five stars.

Merisi is not a stop on the way to Khulo. Adding it to a Batumi to Tago drive costs 23.3 km and 38 minutes, because the valley climbs away from the main road above Keda and comes back the same way.

### Vaio Resort

Where: Vaio, Keda. Drive from Batumi: 40.5 km, about 55 minutes, and only 1.7 km off the road to Khulo. Good for: 4.9 from 143 guests with the food and the hosts singled out, which makes it the place to put a wedding party rather than a banquet. Watch out for: it is small, so the dinner has to be small too.

> **Vaio Resort** (Vaio, Keda (Adjara))

### Hill Inn Luxury Glamping and Treehouses

Where: above Dandalo, Keda, 725 m. Drive from Batumi: 59 km, about 1 hour 20. Good for: [tents and tree houses](http://www.hillinn.ge/) with an amphitheatre for a bonfire, a spa zone in the woods with a sauna and an outdoor bath, an outdoor pool, a BBQ area and a small home cinema, for a group that wants glamping closer to the coast than we are. Watch out for: it publishes no wedding capacity, so ask how many it seats, and it is 8.3 km and 30 minutes off the Tago road, so it is a separate trip.

Good for: the one way to hold a winter wedding on this side of the country, with a spa, [two restaurants and a wedding service](https://ambassadori.com/goderdzi/), and ski-to-door access to the Goderdzi lifts. Watch out for: the pass road closes in snow, and Goderdzi is 25.8 km beyond Khulo, so adding it to a Batumi to Tago drive costs 53 km and just over an hour.

### Castello Mare, for the guests who want the sea

Where: the cliff at Tsikhisdziri, 25 km and about 30 minutes north of Batumi. Beds: [110 rooms](http://www.castellomare.com/). Not a mountain venue at all, and it is here because half of every guest list wants a beach: the coast is one to two hours from any Adjara mountain venue, so a wedding above Batumi and a second night by the sea is an easy programme. Watch out for: several October 2026 reviews call the hotel worn and due for renovation, and the all-inclusive buffet weak.

> **Cost:** Getting the guests up from Batumi is a real line in the budget. Our 15-seat minibus is 410 GEL a car one way and a 4x4 for four is 265 GEL, so 30 guests arriving and leaving in two minibuses each way is 1,640 GEL. Vendors are charged separately: most photographers, DJs and stylists add the ride to Tago on top of their fee, and a vendor car from Batumi and back is 530 GEL.

## What can you expect from a wedding in Kazbegi and Gudauri, the postcard mountains?

A hotel wedding under the most famous mountain in the country, with the shortest transfer from Tbilisi and the highest chance that the road closes. This is the Georgian Military Highway: Mount Kazbek at 5,054 m, the Gergeti Trinity Church on the ridge above Stepantsminda, and 155 km of asphalt from Tbilisi over the Jvari Pass at 2,379 m.

Everything here is hotel-shaped. You book rooms, you get one restaurant or one hall for the evening, and the property keeps its other guests. Nobody in Kazbegi or Gudauri sells you the whole place for a weekend.

### Ati Ambavi, Gudauri

Where: Gudauri, about 2,196 m. Drive from Tbilisi: 122 km, 2 to 2.5 hours. Capacity: 10 rooms, so a party of 20 to 25 with everyone under one roof. Season: all year. Good for: a small wedding where nobody needs a transfer on the day, because the ceremony, the dinner and the beds are in the same building. Watch out for: reception is unstaffed after midnight.

### Gudauri Lodge

Where: Gudauri. Drive from Tbilisi: 122 km, 2 to 2.5 hours. Good for: the overflow beds a boutique hotel cannot give you, in the same village as the ceremony. Watch out for: it is a big ski hotel in its low season in summer, and the rooms have no blackout curtains.

Two more numbers for this region. An elopement for two in Kazbegi [starts at 2,600 USD](https://www.wedding-in-georgia.com/post/how-much-does-a-wedding-in-kazbegi-cost) with planning, a day coordinator, transport from the hotel, passport translation and notarisation, witnesses, the registrar with an English translator, the certificate, hair and make-up, a bouquet and a five-hour photographer. And [Eventive](https://eventive.ge/ru/skolko-stoit-svadba-v-gruzii/) adds 15 to 25 per cent to a high-altitude wedding for equipment delivery and moving guests three hours from the capital. [Matilda Events](https://matildaevents.com/wedding-cost-in-georgia-country-2026-budget/) puts venue rental alone at 1,000 to 3,500 EUR around Kazbegi.

> **Watch out:** The Jvari Pass is the single risk in this region. It can shut for a morning, a day or longer [in any month from October to May](https://www.impt.ge/blog/jvari-pass/), and when it reopens freight moves first, so a road cleared at nine may not be usable until noon. Winter tyres are compulsory on this road from December. If the pass is shut, the [Kobi to Gudauri gondola](https://thegeorgianguide.com/destinations/kazbegi-stepantsminda-guide/) is the way over: a taxi to Kobi is 80 to 100 GEL and the ride 35 GEL in summer, 45 in winter. ## What can you expect from a wedding in Kakheti, the vineyard alternative?

The largest capacities in the country, the easiest logistics and the lowest altitude: these are foothills, not mountains. Measured from Tbilisi on the road, [Giuaani](https://giuaani.ge/) in Manavi sits at 600 m, 62 km out; Tsinandali at 104 km; Lopota at 477 m, 116 km and 2 hours 12; [Vazisubani](https://www.instagram.com/vazisubani_estate/) at 128 km; Kvareli Lake at 151 km. Not one of them is above 700 m. If a list sells you Kakheti as a mountain wedding, it is selling you vineyards with the Greater Caucasus on the horizon, which is a fine thing to want.

## Which region and venue suit your guest count?

Count the beds, not the chairs. A venue's seated capacity tells you whether dinner fits; the bed count tells you whether your guests have to drive home at midnight on a mountain road.

| Guests | What works | Beds on site |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2, just the two of you | Chateau Iveri, a Kazbegi elopement package, or the couple's tent at Glamping Tago | n/a |
| 15-20 | Chateau Iveri (7 rooms), Ati Ambavi (10 rooms), Vaio Resort | everyone |
| 20-33 | Glamping Tago on the ridge alone, with no village beds needed | 33 |
| 33-54 | Eco House Merisi (50 seated, up to 54 beds) | up to 54 |
| 50-85 | Rooms Kazbegi (85 seated, 286 beds) | everyone |
| 60-100 | Glamping Tago with the village guesthouses: 33 on the ridge, 64 in 27 village rooms at 150 GEL a night, booked through us | 97, and 3 tents take a third mattress |
| 100-120 | Chateau Milisi (120 seated), Kokhta Bakuriani (100 in the Didveli room) | 32 rooms / hotel |
| 200-500 | Kvareli Lake (200), Crowne Plaza Borjomi (500), Lopota (400) | 100-310 rooms |
| 500-1,200 | Tsinandali Estate: 700 in the amphitheatre, up to 1,200 without accommodation | 124 rooms |

For 30 to 60 guests, where most destination weddings land, the bed question decides the day. Two venues in the Adjara mountains put the whole party to bed on the property: Glamping Tago for a wedding of about 30, with all 33 beds on the ridge, and Eco House Merisi with up to 54.

## What does a weekend mountain wedding in Georgia cost in 2026?

Our own prices are below in full because we publish them; every other venue in this guide quotes each wedding individually, so what you see for them is the agency's published floor.

| Venue rental alone, mountains / Kakheti | [1,000-3,500 / 1,500-4,000 EUR](https://matildaevents.com/wedding-cost-in-georgia-country-2026-budget/) | rental only, nothing else included |

**Worked example: 30 guests, two nights at Glamping Tago in June.** Whole camp 2 x 5,041 = 10,082 GEL. Mountain Supra for 30 = 2,550. Arrival snack 25 and reception appetizers 15 a head = 1,200. Dinner buffet on the first evening, 37 a head = 1,110. Two breakfasts for 30 = 1,920. BBQ live station = 1,350. Arch and flowers = 2,250. Transfers from Batumi and back, two minibuses each way = 1,640. Our coordination, if you want it = 2,000. That is about 24,100 GEL, roughly 9,300 USD at 2.60 GEL to the dollar, before photography, music and your own drinks. Our own guide for a 30-guest wedding with dinner, breakfast and beds is [5,000 to 15,000 USD](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/organizer-info) depending on season and decoration.

> **Tip:** [High season carries a 20 to 30 per cent premium](https://eventive.ge/ru/skolko-stoit-svadba-v-gruzii/) across the Georgian market and the low season can be 30 per cent cheaper. In our own list the same camp is 3,258 GEL a night in April and 6,035 in July. A wedding in the last week of May or the first week of October buys the same mountains for a third less.

> **Good to know:** How our side is paid, so nobody is surprised on the day. A 30 per cent prepayment of the total booking amount confirms the date; it is non-refundable and it is your minimum. Everything else is paid in lari by bank transfer or a payment link, company invoices in GEL or EUR, and what you add on the day is settled on site against an itemised invoice. Transfers are paid in cash at our reception and never to the driver.

## Which month should you choose? Weather region by region

May, June, September and early October, and the answer is the same in all four regions. July and August give the most reliable weather and the highest prices, and the shoulder months give clear air, low rates and a real chance of rain.

The [official regional figures](https://georgia.travel/weather-and-climate/weather-and-seasons) set the frame. Adjara's mountainous sub-alpine zone runs 2 to 3 C from December to March and 17 to 21 C in summer, against 22 to 24 on the Adjara coast. Kakheti is around 0 C in winter and 23 to 25 in summer. That difference between the coast and the ridge above it is exactly why a wedding in the Adjara mountains needs warm layers in August.

Gudauri at 2,200 m is the coldest venue region in this guide. [The monthly normals](https://sakhva-travel.com/en/pogoda/gudauri/) are +9 by day and 0 at night in May with 18 days of precipitation, +14 and +6 in June with 22, +17 and +8 in July with 18, +18 and +9 in August with 14, +13 and +4 in September with 15, and +7 and -1 in October with 11. June is the wettest month of the year up there, August the driest of the summer, and the gap from Tbilisi can reach 20 degrees on the same afternoon.

| Month | Adjara mountains | Kazbegi and Gudauri | Kakheti | Borjomi and Bakuriani |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| April | camp opens 1 April, green and wet | snow on the passes | vines waking, mild | ski season ending |
| May | green, the wettest month on the coast | nights near freezing, road can still shut | warm and stable | cool, green |
| June | warm days, cold nights, meadows in flower | the wettest month, 22 days with rain | hot | mild, afternoon showers |
| July | hot in the valley, pleasant on the ridge | +17 by day, afternoon storms | 23-25 C, hot | the comfortable summer choice |
| August | the busiest, late August can be rainy | +18 by day, the driest summer month | hottest | busy with Tbilisi families |
| September | warm and golden, the local favourite | +13 by day, clear air | harvest, the best month here | clear and quiet |
| October | golden, camps close at the end of the month | +7 by day, first snow | late harvest, cool | first snow late in the month |
| November-March | the Adjara camps are closed | ski season, the pass can close | hotels open, cold and quiet | ski season, late Dec to late Mar |

> **Watch out:** Mountain weather beats every forecast. Plan the ceremony for late afternoon, keep a tented or indoor fallback, and do not trust a valley forecast for a ridge: a Khulo forecast says little about what happens 300 m above it at Tago.

## Can you marry in the Georgian mountains in winter?

Yes, in two of the four regions. Bakuriani and Gudauri run all winter as ski resorts, Borjomi's spa hotels are open all year, and in the Adjara mountains exactly one hotel stays open: Hotel Ambassadori at the Goderdzi pass.

The [2025-26 lifts](https://thegeorgianguide.com/guides/georgia-in-winter/) opened 20 December in Bakuriani and 27 December in Gudauri, and ran to 29 March in Bakuriani and 19 April in Gudauri. Mid-January to early March is the stretch with dependable snow. Lifts run 10:00 to 17:00, and a pass needs a physical 5 GEL Multicard: a QR code on a phone will not open the turnstile. A Gudauri day pass was 70 GEL that season against 55 in Bakuriani. Bakuriani sits lower at [1,700 m](https://og.ge/blog/bakuriani), opens earlier and suits families; Gudauri is higher, with [cable cars reaching 3,276 m](https://georgia.travel/resorts/gudauri) and colder nights. The [Mountain Trails Agency](https://mta.ski/en/presscenter), the state company that runs all four ski areas, announces each winter's lift dates in December: the 2025-26 notice came on 17 December 2025, and passes went on sale online from 23 December.

Two things stop a winter wedding in Adjara. The [Goderdzi pass](https://www.georgia-spirit.com/guides/goderdzi-ski-resort/) at 2,025 m takes the heaviest snowfall in Georgia, from November into April, and it needs chains or a 4x4 when it is open at all; the [Roads Department](https://georoad.ge/) posts the live restriction and its hotline is +995 32 2 31 30 76. Read the category on the bulletin: the road can be shut to trucks and buses but open to cars with chains, or open only to four-wheel drive. And Glamping Tago is closed from November to March, with up to three metres of snow on the ridge.

> **Good to know:** If your guests are self-driving, the [rental advice for these roads](https://starcar.ge/blog/winter-driving-in-georgia-what-to-know-before-you-rent-2026) is a crossover with winter tyres as the minimum and an SUV with chains after heavy snow, chains supplied only on request, and the operator told at booking which mountain roads you plan to drive. For Tbilisi to Batumi in winter the E60 is the safe route and Goderdzi is not.

## How do foreigners legally get married in Georgia in 2026?

Two foreigners can marry in Georgia with their passports, two witnesses and a joint application, and [registration without ceremony services is free](https://sda.gov.ge/en/products/marriage-registration/). No residency is required. What the Public Service Development Agency actually asks for is short:

- A joint written application from both people.
- Identity documents of both people and of two legally capable adult witnesses, who must attend.
- If either was married before, a document proving that marriage ended.
- From a foreign citizen, a document proving they are in Georgia on legal grounds.

Both must be 18 or older, and registration through a representative is not permitted. A foreign passport is accepted without a Georgian translation if it carries the personal data in Latin transliteration; any other document issued abroad must be apostilled or legalised and come with a notarised Georgian translation. A certificate of no impediment is not required. Georgian law defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, so a same-sex wedding here is symbolic only.

Two practical catches. The agency accepts translations only from translators on the [Ministry of Justice list](https://madloba.info/en/blog/laws-of-georgia/house-of-justice-services/), not from any translation agency, and walk-in queues at the central Tbilisi and Batumi branches run two to four hours in the first half of the day. Book the slot online at [psh.gov.ge](https://psh.gov.ge/) and walk in with almost no wait, and do the translation before you fly. Our longer guide to [getting married in Georgia as a foreigner](/blog/how-to-get-married-in-georgia-as-a-foreigner) walks through the documents country by country.

## Do your wedding guests need insurance to enter Georgia in 2026?

Yes, and this is new: since 1 January 2026 almost every foreign visitor needs health and accident insurance to enter the country. [Government Decree No. 602](https://matsne.gov.ge/ka/document/view/6728816), adopted on 26 December 2025, sets the insured sum at a minimum of 30,000 GEL in Article 4 and allows the policy to be shown on paper or on a phone, in Georgian or English, in Article 5.

It applies to all foreign citizens regardless of nationality or purpose, including visa-free travellers, and it is checked at airports and land borders. The cover has to run for every day of the stay, arrival and departure days included. Georgian insurers sell a compliant policy [from 2 GEL a day](https://www.irao.ge/en/dazgvevis-detalebi/mandatory-travel-insurance-georgia/), issued by email as a PDF.

This is an entry rule, not a marriage document: it does not go in your registration file. What it does mean is one more line in the invitation you send your guests, and one more thing to check for the older relatives who never buy travel insurance.

> **Tip:** Every compliant policy has a notification rule: [GPI Holding](https://www.gpih.ge/en/mandatory-tourist-insurance/) requires a call to 032 2 505 111 before treatment and will not reimburse care taken without it. Put the insurer's hotline in the welcome note in each guest's room, next to the wifi password.

## How do your guests actually get to each region?

By car or minibus, in every case. There is no train and no flight to any of these regions, and only Kazbegi and Bakuriani have a marshrutka a guest could realistically use in wedding clothes.

| Route | Distance | Public transport | Private car |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Tbilisi to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) | 155 km | [marshrutka 20 GEL](https://thegeorgianguide.com/destinations/kazbegi-stepantsminda-guide/), 11 a day from Didube, 3-3.5 h; minivan about 50 GEL a seat | a booked driver from 210 GEL a car, 219 GEL from the airport, 2 h 45 |
| Tbilisi to Gudauri | 122 km | [marshrutka 15 GEL](https://georgiaguidebook.com/transport/tbilisi-to-gudauri/) from Didube, 2.5-3 h | booked transfer 190-320 GEL a car |
| Batumi to Glamping Tago | 87 km | [marshrutka to Khulo about 10 GEL](https://glampingtago.ge/how-to-get-to-glamping-tago), every 30 min 08:00-20:00, then our 4x4 | 4x4 265 GEL, 15-seat minibus 410 GEL |
| Khulo to Glamping Tago | 8.9 km | none | 4x4 taxi 75 GEL a car or minibus 135 GEL, 20-35 min |
| Kutaisi airport to Glamping Tago | 141 km | [train 31 GEL or bus 25 GEL](https://glampingtago.ge/how-to-get-to-glamping-tago) to Batumi, then as above | 4x4 465 GEL |
| Tbilisi to Bakuriani | 186 km | [marshrutka 15-20 GEL](https://wander-lush.org/visit-bakuriani-travel-tips/), about 3 h | transfer from about 270 GEL |
| Kutaisi airport to Bakuriani | 172 km | [no direct bus](https://orbitrip.ge/guide/kutaisi-airport-to-bakuriani-transfer-guide); changes in Kutaisi and Borjomi or Khashuri, 20-30 GEL in all, four hours or more | sedan from about 270 GEL, minivan 360 GEL, about 2 h 30 |
| Tbilisi to Lopota (Kakheti) | 116 km | no service to the resort gate | 2 h 12 by car or a booked transfer |
| Tbilisi to Borjomi | 162 km | marshrutka and train to Borjomi, then 3 GEL up to Bakuriani | about 2 h 20 by car |

Three things that catch wedding parties out. A big coach cannot reach Glamping Tago: the last stretch takes 4x4 cars and 15- to 17-seat minibuses only, and the usual answer is your own coach to Khulo and our minibuses from there. The [Khulo cable car is closed](https://glampingtago.ge/how-to-get-to-glamping-tago) for repair, so the last climb is always a 4x4. And there is [no shared transport from Kazbegi to Tbilisi airport](https://thegeorgianguide.com/destinations/kazbegi-stepantsminda-guide/): the vans go from the small station in the centre of Stepantsminda, about 11 a day in summer, 20 GEL cash, and the last departures are cut out of season, so a guest with an evening flight needs a booked driver.

> **Good to know:** There is an easier road to us than the Khulo one. Turn off the Batumi to Akhaltsikhe road at Zamleti, 4.7 km before Khulo, and climb the Skhalta valley through Cheri and Dzmagula: 94 km and about 2 hours from Batumi, on a road that suits normal cars and minibuses. It is in our [route guide](https://glampingtago.ge/how-to-get-to-glamping-tago), and use [maps.me](https://maps.me/) rather than Google Maps for the last part. With a 4x4 you park at the top of the camp by the sign; without one, park anywhere in Khulo centre and our taxi brings you up.

## Where do you actually register the marriage, and what does the registrar cost?

At a Public Service Hall, a Wedding House or a territorial office of the Public Service Development Agency, and if you skip the ceremony services it is free. Everything above free is a choice: a nicer hall, a registrar who travels to your venue, or an agency that handles the file for you.

For an Adjara wedding, the place is [Batumi's Public Service Hall](https://psh.gov.ge/) at 7 Sherif Khimshiashvili Street, open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:00 and closed at weekends, on +995 32 240 54 05. The Batumi Marriage License Bureau by the musical fountain has closed.

For a Kazbegi wedding, Stepantsminda has its own Public Service Hall at 49 Al. Kazbegi Street, which is why couples can register with Mount Kazbek behind them instead of driving back to Tbilisi.

What the paid options cost:

- Renting a private hall of the House of Justice on a workday: [from 65 USD plus 18 per cent VAT](https://vowly.wedding/blog/all-inclusive-wedding-packages-georgia).
- An off-site ceremony with a registrar at your venue, arranged by an agency: [from 1,845 USD](https://lotus-wedding.com/services/outdoor-marriage-registration/) including translation, notarisation, two witnesses, the registrar's travel, a private transfer and an apostille; [Violet Weddings starts at 1,400 USD](https://wedding-in-georgia.co.uk/services/outdoor-marriage-registration-in-georgia/). An outdoor ceremony by an authorised registrar is [legally binding, not symbolic](https://wedding-in-georgia.co.uk/services/outdoor-marriage-registration-in-georgia/).
- Document packages without the ceremony: [370 to 795 USD](https://lotus-wedding.com/services/outdoor-marriage-registration/) across the agencies, with the apostille or legalisation the main variable.
- On-site civil registration as we arrange it at Glamping Tago: 255 GEL, with most ceremonies registered within 24 hours.

## What do couples get wrong about a mountain wedding here?

- **Reading seated capacity as beds.** Rooms Kazbegi seats 85 and sleeps hundreds; our camp is made for weddings of about 30 and sleeps them all on the ridge. Ask both questions of every venue.
- **Forgetting that vendors need transport.** Photographers, DJs, hosts and stylists charge the ride to a mountain venue on top of their fee. Pool them into one car, and remember that a cameraman who leaves after the first dance needs his own ride back.
- **Underestimating the night.** At 1,200 to 2,200 m an August evening is cold. Guests in summer clothes are miserable by eleven, so say it in the invitation, and check that the venue heats its rooms.
- **Believing the cable car.** The Khulo cable car is closed for repair. The way up to us is a 4x4, and we send one to meet you in Khulo.
- **Leaving Kazbegi late in winter.** Local practice is to be off the Jvari Pass in daylight, which means leaving Stepantsminda by 14:30, not after a long lunch.
- **One night for a two-day drive.** Guests who fly in, drive three hours, dance and leave at nine the next morning see nothing. Two nights is the minimum that works, and most couples arrive two or three days early.
- **No rain plan.** It is the first thing forgotten. Ask exactly which covered space fits your guest count, and stand in it. Ours is the event tent with its sides closed, and the yurt with its wood stove after that. Mountain rain here is usually hard and short, and a wet forecast for the valley town says little about the ridge.
- **The cake.** A tiered cake ordered in the city has to fit through a mountain kitchen's door and into its fridge. Ours is 60 by 50 cm, and we ask for the cake size in advance for that reason.
- **Booking late.** June to September books six to twelve months ahead in our own diary, and [the Georgian agencies](https://eventive.ge/ru/skolko-stoit-svadba-v-gruzii/) say high-season venues go six to eight months out.

## How do you book it, and in what order?

1. **Pick the window first, then the region.** May, June, September or early October in any of the four. If you need December to March, that decides it: Bakuriani, Gudauri or Borjomi.
2. **Ask three numbers before you fall in love with a photograph.** Beds on the property, seated capacity under a roof, and what the price per guest includes.
3. **Book the venue and hold the date.** Our date is confirmed by a 30 per cent prepayment of the total booking amount, which is non-refundable and is your minimum; we can pencil a date for one week without it. High season needs six to twelve months.
4. **Book the beds your guest list overflows into.** If the list is bigger than the venue sleeps, book the extra rooms nearby at the same time as the venue, not in the final month.
5. **Start the paperwork two to three months out.** Passport translations from a Ministry of Justice translator, the application filed in advance, two witnesses named, and divorce certificates translated if they apply.
6. **Tell your guests about the insurance rule when you send the invitations.** 30,000 GEL of cover, from 2 GEL a day, for every day of their stay.
7. **Lock the vendors, and their transport.** Photographer, videographer, host, DJ or band, and one car for all of them if the venue can pool it.
8. **Send the programme 30 days before, the rooming list and the final food count 7 days before.** A wedding books the whole camp, so the number of tents cannot be reduced later; the food count can still move until 7 days out.
9. **Build the transfer plan a few days before.** Flight and train times for every guest, waves of minibuses, and a named driver for the ones arriving at midnight.
10. **Call the road the day before if a pass is involved.** The [Roads Department](https://georoad.ge/) on +995 32 2 31 30 76 for Goderdzi and the Jvari Pass, and the [Khulo tourist information centre](https://gobatumi.com/en/content/25) on +995 577 90 90 15, open 09:00 to 19:00, for the local view of the last kilometres.

## What should your guests bring, and what do you have to bring yourself?

Warm layers, whatever the month, and an umbrella in late August. At 1,200 to 2,200 m an evening in August drops to single figures, and guests in summer clothes are miserable by eleven, so put it in the invitation rather than hoping.

For the couple and the planner, the list of what a mountain venue does not have is the one that matters. At Glamping Tago the [tablecloths, linen napkins, plates, cutlery, glasses, candle holders, tea lights, lanterns, the wooden photo frame and the welcome board](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/organizer-info) are lent free, and our team builds the arch, sets the light poles and moves the wood stoves into the tent for a cold night. What has to come with you or from Batumi: string lights, special flowers, candles in glass, flower stands, a projector, and any stage or event lighting beyond our string lights and light poles. Local women pick flowers and greens from village gardens and the forest, so the colours follow the season and early August is thin on flowers.

Three things worth knowing before the day. There is no high-power generator, so ask your DJ and lighting crew what they draw. Our own party speaker and two wireless microphones are free and carry a ceremony, speeches and dinner, but a dance party needs a DJ rig. And we buy your decor back afterwards at half price rather than watch you carry it down the mountain.

> **Watch out:** Send us the cake size. A tiered cake ordered in Batumi has to fit through a mountain kitchen's door and into its fridge, and our freezer door is 60 by 50 cm.

## How do you choose between the four regions?

If your guests fly into Tbilisi and you want the famous mountain behind the photograph, choose Kazbegi and accept the pass. If you need 200 seats or more, or the easiest logistics in the country, choose Kakheti and call it vineyards rather than mountains. If you want a wedding in the snow, choose Bakuriani or Gudauri. And if you want a weekend where the group stays close together, wakes up together and nobody drives far, choose the Adjara mountains and fly into Batumi or Kutaisi.

Ask every venue the same three questions before you sign: how many beds are on the property, what happens if it rains, and what exactly the price per guest includes. The answers separate a good mountain wedding from an expensive lesson.

Planning one above Batumi? Send your date and guest count to [wedding.glampingtago.ge](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge) and Anastasia answers within a day with availability, a draft weekend programme and a real estimate.

## A mountain wedding weekend at Glamping Tago

We are Jonas and Lisa, a Belgian couple who fell in love with Georgia and opened Glamping Tago in 2021. We are on the ridge above Village Tago in Khulo municipality, 1,200 m up in mountainous Adjara and about two hours from Batumi. A wedding books the whole camp: one wedding at a time, no other guests, and every clearing, the event tent, the yurt and the fire circle are yours for the weekend.

33 people sleep on the ridge in 12 Lotus Belle tents and a nine-bed dome. That is made for weddings of about 30 guests and retreats of up to 30 people, and the whole place belongs to one group.

The ceremony is on the meadow facing the mountains with benches for the whole group and an arch our team builds; dinner is in a 150 m2 sailcloth tent on its own deck whose sides close if it rains, and the yurt with its wood stove is the plan after that. The kitchen is fully vegetarian, with a BBQ live station for the meat. Sauna, fire circle, morning yoga and the heated dome as your getting-ready room are in every wedding.

All of it, with prices, spaces and the timeline that works up here, is on our [practical guide for organizers](https://wedding.glampingtago.ge/organizer-info).

- **Guests:** About 30 for a wedding, up to 30 for a retreat; everyone sleeps on site
- **Beds on site:** 33 on the ridge
- **Whole camp, per night:** 3,258 GEL in April, 5,041 in June and September, 6,035 in July and August
- **Wedding dinner:** Mountain Supra 85 GEL a guest, buffet 125, signature menu 215, BBQ station 45
- **Event tent and rain plan:** 150 m2 sailcloth tent on a deck, sides close for rain; the yurt seats 36 inside
- **Getting here:** About 2 hours for 87 km from Batumi; minibus 410 GEL a car, 4x4 for four 265 GEL
- **To hold the date:** 30% prepayment of the total, non-refundable, your minimum
- **Season:** 1 April to the end of October; wedding season May to mid-October

## FAQ

**What is the best mountain wedding venue in Georgia (the country)?**

It depends on your guest count and which airport your guests fly into. For 50 to 85 guests with the most famous view, Rooms Kazbegi in Stepantsminda; for about 30 guests who want the whole camp to themselves with everyone sleeping on site, Glamping Tago in the Adjara mountains; for 200 to 1,200 guests, the Kakheti estates; for a wedding in the snow, Kokhta Bakuriani or Gudauri. Only the Adjara venues sell you the whole property for the weekend.

**Is there a wedding venue in the Adjara mountains near Batumi?**

Several. Glamping Tago is 87 km and about two hours from Batumi at 1,200 m and hosts weddings of about 30 guests and retreats of up to 30 on a whole-camp buyout. Eco House Merisi above Keda, 48 km out, takes up to 50 with beds for 54; Chateau Milisi lists up to 120 seated; Chateau Iveri and Vaio Resort suit 15 to 40 guests. Hotel Ambassadori at the Goderdzi pass is the only one of them open all winter.

**Can 100 guests sleep on site at a mountain wedding in Georgia?**

Glamping Tago sleeps 33 on site, which is why it is made for weddings of about 30 guests. In Kazbegi and Kakheti the big hotels have hundreds of beds but seat far fewer people at dinner, so a 100-guest wedding there means splitting the group across two restaurants or two hotels.

**How much does a mountain wedding in Georgia cost in 2026?**

A two-night weekend for 30 to 60 guests comes to roughly 10,000 to 35,000 GEL, or about 3,800 to 13,500 USD, including the venue, food and transfers. Georgian agencies quote whole budgets of 1,500 to 4,000 USD for a wedding of 2 to 20 guests and 10,000 to 25,000 USD for 50 to 100. A ceremony fee alone at a Kazbegi or Kakheti hotel is 1,380 to 3,400 USD, with rooms, food and transport on top.

**Do wedding guests need insurance to enter Georgia in 2026?**

Yes. Under Government Decree No. 602, in force since 1 January 2026, foreign visitors must hold health and accident insurance of at least 30,000 GEL covering every day of the stay, arrival and departure days included. It is checked at airports and land borders, can be shown on paper or on a phone in Georgian or English, and Georgian insurers sell a compliant policy from 2 GEL a day. It is an entry rule, not part of the marriage file.

**Can foreigners legally marry in Georgia, and what documents do they need?**

Two foreigners can marry with no residency and no waiting period. The Public Service Development Agency asks for a joint written application, identity documents of both people and of two adult witnesses who attend, a document proving any previous marriage ended, and proof that the foreign citizen is in Georgia on legal grounds. Registration without ceremony services is free, and a passport needs no translation if it carries the personal data in Latin transliteration.

**What is the best month for a mountain wedding in Georgia?**

May, June, September and early October in all four regions. July and August have the most reliable weather and the highest prices, September is the local favourite for clear air and lower rates, and June is the wettest month at altitude, with 22 days of precipitation in Gudauri. Nights are cold above 1,500 m in every summer month, so tell guests to bring layers.

**Can you have a winter wedding in the Georgian mountains?**

In Bakuriani, Gudauri and Borjomi, yes. The 2025-26 lifts ran from 20 December in Bakuriani and 27 December in Gudauri to 29 March and 19 April, and the Borjomi spa hotels are open all year. In the Adjara mountains only Hotel Ambassadori at the Goderdzi pass stays open: the pass takes the heaviest snowfall in Georgia and Glamping Tago is shut from November to March.

**How far are the mountain venues from Batumi and Tbilisi?**

From Batumi: Chateau Milisi 32 km, Vaio Resort 40.5 km, Chateau Iveri 46 km, Eco House Merisi 48 km, Hill Inn 59 km, Glamping Tago 87 km and about two hours, the Goderdzi pass 106 km. From Tbilisi: Giuaani 62 km, Tsinandali 104 km, Lopota 116 km, Gudauri 122 km, Kvareli Lake 151 km, Stepantsminda 155 km and three to three and a half hours, Borjomi 162 km, Bakuriani 186 km.

**How do you pay for a mountain wedding venue in Georgia, and what holds the date?**

A deposit holds it, and the balance is paid before or on the day. At Glamping Tago a 30 per cent prepayment of the total booking amount confirms the date; it is non-refundable and it is your minimum, and we can pencil a date for one week without it. Payment is in lari by bank transfer or a payment link, with company invoices in GEL or EUR, and what you add on the day is settled on site against an itemised invoice. Transfers are paid in cash at reception, never to the driver.

**What happens if it rains at a mountain wedding in Adjara?**

Every venue up here needs a covered space that fits the whole guest list, and you should stand in it before you book. At Glamping Tago the event tent's sides close and the ceremony moves under it, with the yurt and its wood stove as the second plan and the warm room the party moves into at midnight. Rain in these mountains is usually hard and short, and a wet forecast for Khulo in the valley says little about the ridge 300 m above it.
